Title: New FarCry info at IGN
Post by: Smoke39 on November 29, 2006, 08:44:15 AM
Basically, it's uglier than a 'Cube game, but is a lot of fun and has the best FPS controls on Wii yet. The new videos look fun.

Is this FarCry as in the PC version with the awesome gameplay, or the FarCry Instincts with the lame straightforward level design?

I will purchase this game, but first I have to beat Red Steel.

It LOOKS like fun, but the visuals are terrible.

If it really is a good game in spite of its graphics, I expect everyone who has ever claimed that gameplay is more important than graphics to buy it.

IGN sez: "The game expands on Far Cry Instincts Evolution by adding a whole new story, as well as new weapons, characters and three new maps."
I personally found the PC version's levels to be pretty straightforward, but I've never played Instincts.

Well, there's a difference between choosing to not make the game incredibly detailed, and just throwing a piss poor port out there. It doesn't look all that bad to me, but if it truly looks worse than GC games, I have to question why? How is it possible to actually degrade a games graphics when all you're doing is porting it over? I've heard of ports not being tailored to the specific console, not taking advantage of the hardware, but degradation is pretty much unacceptable to me.

I never found the pc levels straightforward, at least not the outside ones, you could accomplish things from all kinds of angles.

I consider hiking from point A to point B shooting things you encounter on the way to be straightforward. They did make good use of the wide open areas to make combat fairly open ended, but outside of combat the levels weren't all that interesting (besides being really pretty, of course).

That's what I mean. Instincts has no where near the options of the regular FarCry. The AI in the original is superb, Instincts is much simpler. There's nowhere near the amount of options for the game. Maybe that's just me, but I loved being able to jump out of the bushes and de-kneecap some poor mercenary with my machete. Or sneak around, swipe a buggy and gun/run them all down. Or play it all stealthy-like, take out their snipers and lure them away from the base to deal with them in the jungle one by one. Or lure them near some Trigens and watch. The list goes on.

Those videos look awful to me. The turning seems horrendous and the AI glitchy.

Anybody notice how the dude's arms look like he's one of the zombies from Ocarina of time. See the examples below:
Farcry:
Zombie from OOT (best pic I could find, but the zombie looks red instead of brownish):

Christ, you would think that with the Wii being at least capable of twice the power of the GC that Far Cry would look decent, but damn, those videos look awful.
And not to mention the repeating enemy models. Its kind of annoying to kill the same character over and over. Is it that hard to map a few other faces? Feels like Splinter Cell all over again.

Hey, it's Ubisoft.
When they strike the black gold of "GENERIC", they don't hesitate to drill the whole damn oil field.

Dude, you're just asking to be flamed I liked OOT better than MM but I though MM was quite good as well. I had to borrow that freakin RAM booster thing to play it on my 64 though. I wasn't willing to buy it just for MM and Perfect Dark. That reminds me, I hope that Nintendo brings MM to the virtual console soon. I've beaten OOT a few times but only beat MM once.

I find the crappy graphics to be funny, seeing as Far Cry (PC) was praised for having fantastic visuals.

as long as the game has half life 1 or better graphics, i'll bite. I'm more interested in a solid frame rate over detailed textures.

I'd be happy with Duke 3D graphics. Though Shadow Warrior/Blood level would be nice (voxels ftw).

But it was bitched about for almost everything else. Most notably, the whole save point system.
