Title: Most Popular Games According to Yahoo!
Post by: MaryJane on November 28, 2006, 10:31:38 AM
In this list 5 are Wii games the top 3 are Wii games. The other 5 games, are 1 for DS, 1 for PS3, 1, for PC, 1 for X360, and 1 for PS2(which actually outranks the PS3 game).

I assume these rankings are determined by how often (perhaps how many using ISP addresses) people search for these particular games. Which speaks well for the potential success of the Wii, especially when one of those games is WiiSports. I would list the games, but don't be lazy, click on the link and see for yourself.

Personally I think when the game that isn't yet released and yet #1 on the list, is released, it could take over the DS's record as the largest sales of a non-release week for a console. Or would it take over the record, since the DS is a portable system?

I was being fairly pessimistic about the potential success of the Wii in other threads, but it's hard to ignore all the good things coming it's way. Besides all the idiots who are throwing their Wii-motes around with all the strength they can muster.

Lol, that's good. Such a thing should be obvious, but people seem to have a different standard when it comes to Nintendo products.

Fun fact: there is no force that an average person can put out that would break a good piece of nylon rope (1/2-inch diameter can take 525 lbs or more). Sorry to burst the bubble, but the fact that controller straps are breaking from simple swinging indicates that they are shoddy as hell.

1/2" man... 1/2"  the controller strap is a minuscule fraction of that.  Though I could see them releasing a more industrial version using a flexible metal of some sort for the connecting string.

Umm... anyone mind telling me what the hell is up with their dates for the Wii titles. Mario Galaxy in October 06? Twilight Princess in January 06? Excite Truck in January...07?

Until I personally throw a controller into my television, I'm going to call these people complete morons and then if it does happen to me I will go around the whole interweb calling Nintendo cheap for their shoddy Wiimote straps.

If you're driving along in your shiney new Jetta and a metor falls out of the sky and lands on your car and kills you would you blame Volvo for making an unsafe car?

Airbags are meant to save your life in the event of a car crash; they're not meant to save your life in the event of a six-ton falling piece of rock.  The wrist strap is meant to keep you from accidentally dropping your remote; it's not meant to keep you from throwing it across the room.

I don't think I'd blame Volvo if a Jetta blew up and killed everyone within a hundred yard radius.  Not unless they bought Volkswagen while I wasn't looking.

I've been wondering when that kind of threat was going to start.  Thanks for getting things moving early.

That's kind of the point.

The only time you would drop the remote is when you're flinging it around. And judging from the number of confirmed stories of strap breakage, it's actually much more likely that you will lose your grip on the remote while playing than that you will get in a serious car accident while driving.Think about the number of people driving, and how many hours they drive, vs the number of people playing the Wii and how long they play.

This isn't about blame, by the way. It's just an observation that it's incredibly stupid to suggest that it is somehow beyond the wit of man and the resources of Nintendo to devise a controller strap capable of withstanding the exertions of Wii Tennis. How much more would it cost per controller? 10 cents? Maybe 20?
