Title: Wario World likely to suck?
Post by: Sir Daniel Fortesque on March 08, 2003, 05:23:11 PM
Ok so I've seen the footage and I must say the graphics are pure crap. The levels also seem uninspiring and not very Wario like. I recently got me Wario Land 4 on the GBA and I found it very disappointing, boring to be more precise. I loved all previous Wario games but I think the guys at Nintendo who worked on them didn't make it on WL4, and now seeing as Treasure is handling Wario World I'm starting to think this game will be a major disappointment. It doesn't seem to me it'll be worth the wait.

NEVER Underestimate Myamoto. Hes had extra time to work on this game(frpm its original november release date), and in the past extra time has equaled better games. I looked at the movie of the upcoming wario gamecube game and i liked it. With this as my evidence i say wario world will be good.

I fail to see how you can call those graphics crap. I think the game has a pretty nice style to it. With Treasure making the game, I'm really looking forward to it. I absolutely loved Mischief Makers on the 64.

I agree. I've honestly seen better Dreamcast games. The gameplay looks really lame and uninspired. The whole presentation kinda' sucks. I'm hoping they'll work another year on it, at least.

I can't get over how Wario's arms hang out all weird when he walks. He looks like a hunchback man on crack. Thats just graphics though...hopefully the gameplay can pick things up.

I swar to god, some people are NEVER satisfied with graphics. They're never quite good enough for everybody. Remember how people said ED's graphics suck? I just replayed Paul Kuther's stage and I have to say I was *stunned* at how beatiful it looked. Play the game before you pass judgements on graphics, people.

The graphics don't suck. Like a lot of GCN games, it just looks terrible in screenshots for some reason.

oh stop denying that the graphics are below average. I'm going by the trailer on the OOT/MQ preorder disc, and the game does not look too great. But on the other hand it looks pretty fun. I'm definitely going to check it out when it comes out, I loved the first Wario game on GB, as thats the only one I've ever played.

What do you expect? For every game to look as good or better than Metroid Prime or Splinter Cell? Face it- Wario World's graphics are very detailed- they've got a great style for the game and a WHOLE bunch of polys going into the mix. The only thing I can complain about is the apparent lack of high detail textures. Otherwise, I think it looks great. You people nedd to stop expecting FMV quality graphics- it simply WON'T happen.

i agree totally with mouse_clicker on this one for an even better example- how about mario sunshine the graphics in that were no huge power house but the gameplay is so good you just can't put it down from what i see from wario world right now the graphics are on par with mario sunshine- which is a good thing nintendo's philosophy has always been gameplay over graphics, story, music, ect....(even though they are no slouch at those things) that is why their games are the best- not for flash but for fun, and i cant stress fun enough wario world may not be the best game ever made, but i am damn sure nintendo is going to make it fun to play

LOL! Well, I'm standing by my opinion. The way things are now, it doesn't look too great. If it gets better down the road ... spectacular.

He runs like hes on crack cause he is, and it looks really fun--all kinds of moves you can pull and stuff, looks like a blast. And SHiggy dont make a bad game--ever. So shuddap.

I'm on the side of the Wario defenders, here. I've seen the same complaints in several places regarding the game "not looking finished" or "cheesy" or "weak" - I just don't see it. What, exactly, is it supposed to look like?
I don't see a problem with the graphics at all. Actually, I think they're appropriate for Wario's world. I would expect his "world" to be the opposite of Mario's bright sunshiny existence. How can 20 seconds tell us that a level is uninspiring? We have no idea what the context is for what we saw on the OOT disk and we don't know what the goal of those levels are. Just looked like the big W was kickin a sack o' butt to me (with some nice effects to boot). By the way, screenshots and trailers of Pikmin and Animal Crossing look pretty uninspiring, too.
If graphics really were the end-all and be-all, none of us would have cracked open the OOT disk and played it through AGAIN........actually, we'd have all just bought an X-Box.

ditto. This game is an adaptation of the Wario World games for the GBA. And they did the motion animation simular to how he moves on the GBA screen. And you can't really tell gameplay from graphics. Even a few second clip. If you played the GBA and loved them you will almost certinally love the game. If you played them and didn't like them wait for a demo in the stores to play it or avoid it complete. If you haven't played it yet pick up the GBA game to try it out, or wait to rent it in a month or two.

I would just wait and see for now. I have to find the link but recently a delay was announced, so there is still time for tweaking. Personally I have no problem with the graphics, just that the level design didn't seem too inspired which made me worry that the result would be less than exciting gameplay. But this was my impression from the OOT disk.
I felt underwhelmed by the F-Zero vid on that same disk only to be blown away now after seeing the new demos on the offical site. There's only so much a video of pic can tell us, and when done wrongly those video and pics will tell us the wrong thing. So for all we know, the game may currently be in much better shape than we percieve.

I think it was pointed out by PGC that most of the movies on the disk were slightly newer than the ones on the Zelda demo which were somewhat old. Or it could be one of my delusions again coming to visit.

sorry to stray off topic, but has anyone read the latest EGM? they have the awards for the year, and one is worst graphics, which went to cubivore... now.. wasn't Cubivore supposed to have the blocky animation and characterS?

I'd like to know just why the graphics "suck"...the only specific comment I've heard is that Wario's walk looks funny, which I agree with, but that's just one small component. I think they look fine, maybe a little "bare" at times, but not bad at all. As for the gameplay, I hate to admit it, but I think it looks a little boring and repetitive so far. But it's not really fair to say that since I haven't played the game! Treasure makes some excellent games, so I'm definitely rooting for Wario World. It may even be my most-anticipated game after Zelda.

I put Mario Sunshine down pretty quickly, it quickly got monotonous and by the end, felt like a chore.

Super Mario Sunshine kept me entertained until it got too absurd to collect the rest of the coins.. I hope that Wario World turns out better with a little less collecting of coins
