Title: Wii sports Pwnz!!!
Post by: Smash_Brother on November 19, 2006, 08:09:48 AM
This game is the best party game I've seen to date.

Seriously, it's pure, unbridled glee. I can't wait to show this game to anyone and everyone I know...

Mii love Wii sports.

Boxing took the longest to get down "perfect" but the most fun at the same time.

Now to put in some quality time with my main man Link!

Bowling is great.  My roommate and I are both avid bowlers so we were automatically entranced when this game was announced.  Seeing as it accurately portrays bowling right [besides some of the options], we are having a complete blast trying out all the kinks and everything in it.

The only problem is room.

Tennis and bowling are my main things. I have struggled in the past to get my mom to play video games. When she does play she often isn't very good (sorry mom!), which just adds to the frustration. However, we have played a couple games of bowling and had a blast.

Heh, I thought you weren't going to buy it if it wasn't bundled, as you thought it was just a tech demo.. Good to hear that it plays well, though - Nintendo had the right idea here.

Yes, Wii sports is a wonderful game! ^^ Very clean looking, controls VERY nicely too. There is absolutely no learning curve to the Wiimote, I just picked it up and played. Nintendo has a winner here, this IS the new standard.

Wii Sports is Fantastic. Bowling is so accurate it's scary. I hook the ball to the left in real life, I hook the ball the left in Wii Bowling.

The inclusion of this game with the system was a brilliant marketing decision by Nintendo.  Many dismissed this game as nothing more than a tech demo, including myself.  But its simplistic controls, fun factor, accessibility for any age group makes it Nintendo's wild card.  This game could very well be the Wii's equivalent to Nintendogs.  A simple game capable of reaching the mass market.

Uncle Bob, a female Mii who came with him (wife?), Pale, and my group of friends just played on a baseball team against the premade Mii team. We won.

Your Miis show up in games like this. Three of us were bowling and one of our friends was sitting in the bowling area with our Miis despite not playing.

I just got done playing Wiisports with my family and it is tons of fun, I love Tennis and Boxing the most. Not too high on baseball though, it seemed really flakey control wise and really not that much fun. Bowling was also great too, didn't get around to golf (we played Rayman instead).

It rocks!!!  Man it totally funny that just as I got the Wii going and started playing Wii bowling that my bowling nut of a friend called and upon hearing that I got a 'bowling game' he came righ over.  5 or 6 hours later I was still playing WiiSports.  Fun fun game.  My bud, who doesn't own consoles, but plays the occasional pc rts or rpg type game started asking about the system a couple hours into our mini-marathon.  HOw much?  This game comes with it?  Only $250?  That's pretty good price for this game.  Yeah he didn't even care about what else there might be.  Fun stuff.  And kids love it too.  I have a young son.  5 yrs old.  He absolutely had a blast.

Even at the NeoGAF Forums people are raving about it. There are people who were totally outraged at having it packed-in, people who thought they'd opnly play for 5 minutes... now they HAVEN'T OPENED ZELDA.

It's amazing how awesome this game is!

And since there are 5 sports, everyone has their favorites and their less-than-favorites. There are people who LOVE BOXING. There are people who don't get it. There are people who HATE baseball, there are people who defend it. There are people who praise golf, tennis, and bowling, and those who differe, but have their own favorites.

This is seriously... like.. wow.

Yes, this game is awesome.  It even got my mom playing, which never happens.  Couldn't get my dad to play, he was being a wuss ("Oh you'll make fun of me").  Whatever!

This will likely be the centerpiece if I can get anyone to come to a party.

Yes it as the spartest move for nintendi including this game, especialy cuz I wouldnt have bought it other wise and it is the most fun I have had so far. ME and all my Ps3 only buddies played Blowing for three hours late last night and they are already sold on the Wii and they were all getitng PS3's, ok well still geting Ps3s but now intereste denough to maybe geta  Wii.

Plus it is so reallife, yo know how when ypur drunk you bowl better, at the frist few frames everybody was sober and doing crappy, but after everybody was buzzin the game really took off. this is the party game for sure.

Also my friends who played also work the the golf course here and play golf religoulsy and they said it was so accurate and fun they cant wait for Toger woods to come out cuz if it playes liek this they are 100% sold.

I justw ish I had more moeny to get ANY other game cuz Wii sports if fun and all but I need to try some real games soon.

I was one the people who foresaw its appeal & the necessity to bundle it

I would've bought it for 50 so when I heard it was standard I felt like patting Nintendo on the back

Even tho I have Madden 07 and Monkey Ball [and they're wonderful in their own right]

My family keeps coming back to WiiSports

We actually need a 2nd Wii cause everyone wants to do different stuff
Tennis is about all we agree on

between multiplayer Tennis & the Photo Channel we've been playing nonstop

There's a party at my house tommorow, and noone coming knows about this secret weapon. WiiSports is sure to capture peoples hearts.

P.S. at first my 25 year old sister was mad at me for not telling the controls [cause she used to traditional videogames] and I was like, "You don't need buttons...just swing" . She ended loving it, specially the power-serve to earn aces.

I've had the exact opposite of many people here; I just can't get into boxing.

I think I must be doing something wrong.  When I try to punch with my left more often than not I punch with my right.  I think I'm getting too "into it" and kind of thrusting forward and the remote thinks I'm trying to punch with the remote.  I'm also having a really hard time blocking.  I guess I should have paid more attention to the instructions.

Tennis is lots of fun.  It took me a while to get my timing down.  In the beginning I would swing either too early or too late and the ball would go flying off in one direction or the other.

I'm not sure what I think about baseball.  Hitting a home run and hitting a pop fly seems to be a pretty big crap shoot.  No matter how hard/fast I swing I can't reliably get a home run.

Bowling is fun, but I can't figure out how to add spin.

Golf is great.  I might have to pick up Loli golf when it's available.

Boxing seems the least intuitive out of all the games but it's the best workout.

Watching my wife taking her steps up to a non-existant foul line while bowling was delight until she whooped me in a game, then I felt compelled to go through the full motion myself and it actually helped.  After an hour of playing by herself, she was sweaty and breathing hard and decided she would play wiisports every morning as an additional workout.  Keep in mind that she has never been into videogames until she took my DS Lite and got pulled into Brain Age.  I thought she might get interested in WiiSports, but for me, watching her get totally sucked into Zelda was the real suprise .  My son and I sat in line for 9 hours and so far I have only played a couple hours worth of games (and my son is not the console hog anymore).

BTW: I'm 40 and my wife is 48 -  Kiddy system? I would argue that one!

This game is a blast. After standing/sitting on a concrete floor in lawn & garden for around 11 hours, finally getting my system and Zelda, I thought I'd get home and try out sports for 10-15 minutes before moving on to the "real" game. I didn't get to Zelda for another day and a half after getting hooked and then showing it to family who had a great time with it.

My little niece 0wns at basebal, nailing like 8 or more homeruns before I even hit 1...

Excellent game.  You need to stand up to fully enjoy all of the games and I love it.  This will really help break the typical gamer stereotype.

In boxing I started slow but once I picked up the punching better I loved it.

Wii Sports is great. I am so glad that it was bundled in with the system. It is definitely the first game to show your friends/family who are new to Wii.

Nintendo has really been on the ball lately. They are not perfect and I have some gripes about DS/Wii, but overall they are just doing what it takes to succeed. I believe Wii will be the first Nintendo console to outsell its predecesor.

Someone should make a list of "controversal decisions by Nintendo that they stubbornly adhered to until we realized they were right". The latest on that list would be bundling Wii Sports. Wind Waker graphics change would also be there (at least for me).

dude Boxing is my favorite now, I am the undisputed champ at my house.  I learned a different way to play it and the punching detection is picked up a lot better.  However the technique i use means your not really punching in the air.  The way I do it is kind of like playing the drums with the controllers to do jabs, and upward flicks to do uppercuts.

Hopefully the way i described it is good.  After playing it this way I would say my hit detection has improved ten fold.

Oh and apparently out of my 5 Wii games, Wiisports is still the most played by my family.

Wii Sports is incredibly awesome, and it's appealed to my entire family.  My mother is constantly asking if she can play some more boxing.  We bought two Wiis on opening day, one to sell, but I think they may end up keeping it :P

I'm really good at tennis and golf.  I'm okay at baseball and bowling; my luck tends to fluctuate on those.  I'm absolutely terrible at boxing.  I've won once.  I must be doing something terribly wrong.

My favourite Wii Sports is definately Baseball and Golf, with the other 3 I still have some problems sometimes but whatever.

When playing baseball, I absolutely love it when one of you is on the bat ie "oh look it's bloodworth, come on give me a home run". How fast is your pitch? Today I beat my prior record of 94mph, I did 95mph lol.

I've been able to do birdies in golf, I don't think it's possible to do a hole in one.

From launch day until today I have managed to get only one pin strike in bowling hahaha.

Post by: Hostile Creation on November 24, 2006, 04:14:43 PM
95 is the best I got.
Has anyone else discovered the turbo-serve in tennis?  My nine year old cousin discovered it by accident and once I was aware of its existence I deduced how to do it.  It's quite useful, though I only use it in tight spots, since it's not too fair.
I've also gotten quite good at pitching.  Still suck at boxing, after playing a few more rounds :P
I've gotten a birdie, no hole in one.

Today I hit a ball out of the park and my expression was "huh? what hapenned? I hit one out of the park, woohoo *jumps around*", I think the only way to hit a ball out of the park is hitting the ball to go really close to either left or right side of the field, I "accidently" hit it to the right side.

I also have added another favourite in Wii Sports, it is tennis. I didn't like it before because I still couldn't understand why my swings weren't making fast balls, coincidently today I watched this 4-way multiplayer Wii tennis game and I noticed how quickly they flicked their arms and I was like "hmmm I gotta try that" because I could perceive that the balls were going quite fast between each seen swing, I tired and it works just awesome hahaha.

The Denver Post has a glowing article on WiiSports..
Quote

What? No "Gears of War," with its perfect blend of visual detail and brutal narrative? No "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion," featuring an expansive fantasy landscape packed with trials and treasure? Not something for the PlayStation 3? What about other Wii games? The new "Zelda" game lives up to the grand reputation of the series. And "Rayman Raving Rabbids" is as fun as it is odd.

While each of these games remains a worthy distraction from the pressures of the real world, none of them really changes the art or science of video games the way that "Wii Bowling" does.

Just to further add to the topic in the title of this thread.

Wii Sports does indeed pWN the phone out of the dome in rome. I like bowling and baseball the best. Although I've been having a hell of a time staying above pro-level in bowling.
Title: RE: Wii sports Pwnz!!!
Post by: NWR_pap64 on January 02, 2007, 07:01:11 PM
Yeah, Wii sports does indeed pwn major ass...

The game was able to hook my mother (who has never played a game since the NES), both my nephew and niece, my sister and my brother in law. And I am personally in love with it too. My favorites are definitely bowling and baseball (even though I can't do a homerun for the life of me...). Golf would have to be my least favorite because the controls aren't all that great.

My main fear is that the game's appeal could end up not lasting as long as people expect it to. See, the game is a blast when it you show it to a lot of people, especially people oblivious to the concept of the game. But it starts to lose its appeal once you keep playing with the same people. I think at one point they will want to see something else, something new. Wii sports gives them a huge taste, and they will definitely want more and I doubt they would return to the same game over and over.

But outside that, Wii sports is easily the biggest surprise of the game because a lot of people were disappointed that the game was making the Wii more expensive and now they can't get enough of it.

After putting considerable time into this game, I can't gush enough about it. I gave the controller to my dad, and he groaned and asked me, "Oh God, what buttons do I need to press?" He was amazed when I said you wouldn't need any, and he thoroughly enjoyed playing.

Twirling the bat over your head before you swing in Baseball is just priceless.

Old...flimsy-looking...another part to hit people or furniture or TVs with...unnecessary.

Though the part on the right that is probably a grip might be helpful if well-made, considering how many butterfingers there are on people.

Sadly, that's not the case .

SB came to visit during New year's and brought his Wii along. He was hesitant of bringing it at first (considering that he would be traveling overseas with it), but now I can't thank him ENOUGH.

Seriously, on the first night of SB's visit me, my nephew and my mom played Wii sports till 3:00 in the morning. Our New Year's Eve consisted of us playing Wii all day long, all the way into the new year. My nephew and SB stayed up till 5 AM playing Wii tennis, making sure my nephew would get pro status on Tennis and Bowling. I even got a picture of them playing together.

It brought joy to this Puertorican's heart : _ ) .

The family decided to wait till April (which is my nephew's birthday) to find a Wii. As I mentioned before, I hope that Wii are easier to find by then.
