Title: Wii Component Cables Sell Out
Post by: Karl Castaneda #2 on November 16, 2006, 09:01:03 AM
Gamers don't want HD, but they do want Progressive Scan!

Although Nintendo is eschewing the HD Era in video games, many gamers have taken comfort in knowing they can at least run Wii titles in 480p with the aid of component cables. If you were looking to pick them up from Nintendo's online store, however, you're out of luck, as they're sold out. Prospective buyers are now getting the following message:

Due to high demand, our initial allotment of the Wii Component Video Cables has been depleted. We expect to begin shipping again the week of November 28, 2006.

So, unfortunately, if you were in the market for a pair, you'll have to wait another two weeks.

At least this should send a clear message to Nintendo that gamers want this feature.

I don't even have a 480p TV, but I want the cables anyway.  My XBox 360 looks far, far better using the component in, even on my ordinary TV (I have a fairly new standard TV of excellent quality).

just because they're sold out doasn't mean that 100% of Wii owners will get one.  The Wii's main focus is older poeple and others that don't care about looks, they arn't going to care about progressive scan or not.

Yes but the demand still exceeds Nintendo's initial estimate.  Many people here felt that Nintendo's past decisions regarding the component cables both on the Cube and Wii didn't make a whole lot of sense.  Well this proves that's correct.  Nintendo's ideas regarding the cables were wrong and this is the best way for them to learn that.  Ranting on online forums doesn't accomplish pretty much anything but sales figures do.

Now that's demand for you. If demand remains consistent, that'll send the message loud and clear. Now if Monster can get in on the action in the future. Sure it may cost a little more, but with Monster's reputation, its well worth it. [/off topic]

No reputation is worth a 200% markup.

I believe if Nintendo really want the majority of games to support 480p, they should have included the cables in addition to the a/v cables. Nintendo said that not too many people have HDTV, but there are a lot of folks who have a television that supports 480p.  When I get a Wii, component cables is a must. In my opinion, component cables should have been part of the package. They don't cost that much to manufacture. Its still a wire.  I think not having the component cables as part of the package irritated me more than anything else.  I'm glad people snatch up the cables fast. Maybe Nintendo will consider it in future console packages.

Microsoft and Sony requires games be developed in true HD resolutions and don't include HDMI or Component in all there packages so, why expect the console with the least overall need for these connections to come with them?
