Title: Metoird "continuity" error (yeah so its not about the release of the Wii...)
Post by: KendoKai on November 16, 2006, 06:00:03 AM
I realise this isnt about the exciting release of the Wii, but seeing as I'm from the UK, I have another 21 days to wait....

so to keep my mind on other things to avoid exploding...

the only thing i think is kinda annoying in Metroid Prime 3: corruption is the 'continuity' witht the controllers used.

to throw the Grapple Beam, you cast the Nunchaku controller.

To fire, you use the Wiimote.

But when Samus open doors using the new "twisty lock",  obviously her left hand is doing it (the right one having the handicap of being encased in a cannon) but to control the opening o fthe door, you turn and push with the Wiimote.

I thought they could at least make the Nunchaku operate to open doors...only an insignificant view really but one i felt like saying

...put the Wiimote in your left hand when you want to open a door.

That's not a continuity error.

I'd call it "incongruous" or something.

I noticed that, too, KendoKai, and I also think it's goofy.

It's like, if Nintendo want players to experience some level of immersion in their games, especially one like Metroid, then they could have kept the thing going like the rest of the controls.

They managed to include interesting new things like the grapple throw then they could have still incorporated the door opening into Samus' left hand, aka the Nunchaku controller.

from recent reviews of other games, like Red Steel and Zelda, i feel Metroid would be able to make goo duse of the Wii control system.

reveiws said that the Wii functions on Zelda felt "tacked on", like they could be done without, but Metroid would make good use of the 'throw and yank' methos of grappling etc.

(i am in no way dissing Zelda, in fact, it'll still be my first game, and i look forward to it)

this obviously isnt going to stop me awaiting Prime 3, but its only really something I felt like sharing. Seeing as I've been told GAME wont be able to fulfil my order with their first shipment (again, im in the UK) i have to do something to keep me occupied til the glorious day i get a Wii :P

I personally don't understand why they aren't using the nunchuk for this... it should be able to detect the exact same motion: accelerate in a forward direction, tilt, accelerate in a backward direction.

its obvious why they dont use the nunchuck to open doors

you can just let go of the nunchuck and scratch your privates or maybe your elbow while the door is opening

For some reason that just blew my mind and I don't understand, at all, why that would be a problem. I feel stupid
