Someone compared Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox360) to Ridge Racer 7 (PS3) and come to find out as I've have stated before they the same F*cken game, on top of that not only are they the same game BUT the year old Xbox360 version looks just as good, if not BETTER then the PS3 version.
"Though Ridge Racer 6 was released about a year ago for the 360, and Ridge Racer 7 was released only days ago alongside the PlayStation 3, both games maintain a framerate of 60 frames-per-second. RR6 ran at a resolution of 720p, while RR7 runs at a resolution of 1080p."
What the heck has Namco been doing for the last year with the PS3 port? You would think they would have made the game look better then the first gen Xbox360 version.
This is bad press for Sony, it just goes to show that you can save $200 by getting a Xbox360 and it will look just as good (if not better) then the PS3.
It would be amusing to see how much better Ridge Racer 7 would look like on the Xbox360 with 1080p graphics and not 720p.

Not to mention that you can buy ridge racer 6 used for about $15 vs. $60 for the new PS3 version

So, uh how is RR7 a whole version newer than RR6? It looks like the exact same game.

Honestly, I don't really care which system looks better, but certainly it makes PS3 look bad since Xbox 360 is about $200 cheaper. In the end, though, the game lineups will be the deciding factor. Right now 360 is way out in the lead in that respect, but maybe PS3 will catch up.

It doesn't matter, because Ridge Racer has always absolutely sucked. RR6 is probably the worst of them all.

Technically its 240 dollars cheaper since RR6 can be found new for 19.99 almost everywhere.

I think we are seeing the limitations of HD textures and graphics now. The big difference is that RR7 is in 1080p obviously that higher resolution messed with frame rates and smoothness of game play. It wouldn't make any sense to cut modeled background elements out of a track/game unless it was affecting frame rates or how the game plays.

It's called a sloppy port. Remember, much like the PS2, the PS3 is the hardest system to "get what you want out of it" for developers.

I wonder if those missing background elemets are put back in when the game is run at 720p or lower.
Can they even do that (program a game to only show certain elements at lower resolutions)?

You could program a game to do that, but I think it would be quite a lot of work for arguably little gain. Looking at PC games, I've seen them allow you to set texture resolutions and overall resolution and framerate, but I don't think I've seen anything like that (then again I've only played a couple).

Actually, vudu, that won't happen, since the PS2 downscales the game to 480p if you're not playing in 1080p.
