Title: GameFly + Wii
Post by: NWR_DrewMG on November 13, 2006, 04:48:13 AM
Well, after looking at my budget which includes new glasses and car insurance payments, I won't be able to get a game with my Wii at launch.  I'm getting a second controller (minus nunchuck) but I can't afford $90 - just $40.

So, I'm crawling back to Gamefly.  I used them earlier in the year to check out a few games on my "always wanted to play that" list such as Mario Strikers and Indigo Prophecy, but soon decided that I didn't really have any interest in most of the last years worth of games.

So I cancelled.

Now I'm back.

And I'm really kind of curious how they're going to handle the new launch.  Obviously everyone's going to be adding PS3 and Wii games to their Queues.  I wonder how many they'll be getting in of each title.

Is anyone else going that route?  Most of their Wii games have a release date of 11/16, so I wonder if that means they'll get the games shipped out in time for launch?

I am.  I find there are just a lot of games that I like to play but I don't necessarily want to own.  Strikers was a prime example.  Or Pheonix Wright once I played through it once I didn't have much of a desire to do so again.  For me it's Marvel Ultimate: Alliance and Super Monkey Ball.  Also the prices are cheaper if I want to keep them.

I use gamefly for all of the DS games I don't want to own but want to try out.

Since nowhere around here rents them, it makes vastly more sense to get them in the mail.

Mario 3 on 3 fell under the heading of curious but not convinced so I rented it. My friend played it for a while and liked it but not enough to keep it.

Care to give impressions on the DS board? I too have been curious, but the reviews have been far too mixed in order for me to pick it up.

Yeah, I rented Age of Empires via Gamefly.  It was okay, but honestly I wasn't overwhelmed by it.  It lacked polish when compared to Advance Wars DS.

Sadly I realized that I won't be able to afford a Wii at launch at all.  I've resorted to having to wait until Christmas.

It was my friend who played it, not me, so I don't have much to say on the subject.

I saw what must have been a cached copy of a Gamefly question asking for user experiences.  I got the trial as a gift this past December and the turnaround time was horrible.  It took over 10 days to get the next game on the list.... 10 days!!!

The person who posted the question looked to be from Ohio (or at least a buckeye fan).  Can't find it now, but I'm in Ohio as well... hopefully they've improved the turnaround since dec/jan.  Part of the problem was that everything shipped to the west coast (unlike netflix which has locations all over).  There was a east coast company that does game rentals, but I'm not sure if they carry Wii games.

This was a couple of weeks back.

Starting this week, you may notice that the return address on your GameFly mailer will be Pittsburgh, PA. We're pleased to open this new shipping location as part of our continued effort to improve mailing times for GameFly members across the entire United States.

The worst turn-around time I have had is 5 business days.  Though most I get earlier especially if the Postal office does their part and scans the item.  Thats the biggy.  The new distribution plant should help but if you have to wait for the game to physically get back to Gamefly befroe they ship the next that takes forever and a day.
