Title: Wii Media Blitz Tomorrow?
Post by: Rhoq on November 09, 2006, 01:47:59 PM
I assume that gaming media sites are still under some sort of embargo. IGN (Matt's Blog) has been teasing tomorrow for the last few days. Matt's most recent blog entry found HERE teases a bit more, showing the Wii component cables and joking trying to connect them to his GameCube. The entry ends with this quote...

"Tomorrow rocketh."

They might just post their first Wii review.  Or maybe "Tomorrow" rocketh because they're getting a Wii in house.  I've seen people infer they have one already, but they've never explicitly stated as much.  Look at the fact he used his Wii component cables in a GC, but not showing it with the Wii.

There was a rumour going around the IGN boards that Matt had slipped Zelda's score as 9.2. I think it turned out to be a joke but it was funny seeing all the sony fanboys laughing at the score. As if 9.2 was a 2.9.

Here and Matt have said that they can not talk about Dungeon 2 of TP until Friday.  I wouldn't be surprised if that also happens to be the day they get their Wii.

9.2 will be the new 7.9

That must mean 7.9 has some relevance?

The score that was given to Mario Kart: Double Dash.

I don't think a Wii review will be up until 12 AM on the 19th. Isn't that how they handled the first DS review? As far as them having a Wii, I'm pretty sure they posted pictures of a debug until a few weeks ago, but not a retail Wii.

Considering he has the component cables, I'd assume he has the system too.  He just can't talk about it, or post photos.

Maybe they're making a big deal about the release of the first Wii commercial?

I saw it at N-philes, I think.  Not too keen on the music they used for it.

Well the have one at least on loan because they show it in their IGN Weekly game "show" he was showing off the interface of the Wii and poping games into to show how it loads the gamecube/wii games. He couldn't show the username because "It may get someone in trouble."

At 2 minutes, that was either an extended cut of the commercial, or Nintendo will be paying some hefty fees to the networks for taking up the space of 4 spots. It's not bad. It's certainly different. The music is fitting considering the "stars" of the this ad. It's an Asian-American fusion. Perhaps this is a new angle they are trying to market the Wii as? At least it shows the Wii in action with actual in-game footage, plus I think it conveys the true meaning of what "Wii" is supposed to mean. It's a million times better than the creepy PS3 doll baby.

That was the debug unit (with the green faceplate).

I actually found it before you posted it.
I have to say that after seeing that I understand the bowing i's.  That would be cool if Nintendo actually did that.
Personally I think that is meant to go in front of a Movie more then on TV.

I am well aware that it was a debug unit.

Pretty positive it's Wii-day, meaning they get their commercial systems. Why else would he try to put the component cables into his GCN and then say he'll have to wait until tomorrow? The debug unit he got from a developer without any Nintendo involvement.

Artimus has it spot on. Nothing new or interesting for anyone but him personally.

Uh, guys, direct-feed footage of CoD 3 on ign, now, and from what I read on the insider forums Matt also has and is playing Madden, Monkey Ball, Red Steel, Metal Slug, and Trauma Centre, he said they were going to be up all night so I'm guessing there are going to be lots of vids coming out.

Yeah, he's getting his Wii tomorrow.  That's what he's hyped about.

GameSpot is a little less cryptic:

"We're getting a Wii!"

Major media outlets are getting final Wii systems today, along with Zelda and Excite Truck.  We got ours too, but Pale has to send it overnight to me, so I'll be playing it tomorrow (Saturday).  I'll take lots of photos and have impressions up ASAP, don't worry.  This next week is going to be heaven and hell for me.  I have a test and other stuff at school which will be blatantly neglected.

In the hour I had with it I got some great system menu and Wii Sports time in.  I didn't open the games as I had to make sure Jonny gets it tomorrow but I had a lot of fun.

Did you give it a good name?  Edit: And leave messages questioning Johnny's manhood?

A super secret name!

Jonny can change it though if he wants.

Oh quit throwing your fancy new name in our faces.  (Guess I asked for it).

Oh and no messages, cause I didn't explore that part, but a bunch of Miis are in there.

ARGH, anticipation just broke the 10/10 barrier.  I may have to stop visiting gaming sites for the next week.

Mancakes
That must be the name of the Wii.

I'm jealous you guys are getting it.  Though I'm glad because that means you can have reviews up.

Gamespot's live Wii marathon is going live in about 10-15 minutes from now.

EDIT: The feed has already started.

The feed wasn't working for me so all I could do was hear them having SO MUCH FUN.  This is torture.

Monkey Ball looks awesome... my list of wanted lauch games continue to increase.

No Amaray case for Wii Sports though? Bah...

EDIT: These guys really didn't know that you couldn't control the players in Wii Tennis until now? That you could only swing the racket? ...wow...

The craziest part of Wii tennis is playing one or two player.  It clones your Mii for your teammate and you control both of you as a doubles team!

Some things I've learned watching the live feed:

-Monkey Ball looks like amazing multiplayer fun
-I had Excite Truck as my secondary launch purchase, but I'm bumping that down to a rental
-Wii Sports looks MUCH more fun than I anticipated; golf looks especially great
-Zelda is Zelda
-Must buy Charlie's Angels for GC before I die
-Either the Gamespot editors are good actors, or are the most uninformed professionals ever concerning anything Wii related
-Gotta make sure I keep quality batteries on hand for the remotes if they're gonna crap out that easily

I listen to GameSpot's podcast every week, and although they are funny guys and I enjoy their multiplatform coverage, they are generally not well informed about Nintendo matters.

i don't hate the GameSpot folks, but D@mn how many nerd gamers does it take to hook up a game system?

Heh, not to mention they seemed to be having trouble with the controllers, didn't know whether or not you could move the characters in Tennis, didn't seem to know anything about Excitetruck. "The ground's moving?! Crazy?" "What do the stars mean?" They didn't seem to understand the boost system at all.

I just thought they'd be a bit more well informed. *shrug*
