Title: Touch Detective
Post by: Bill Aurion on October 26, 2006, 05:50:00 PM
Just picked this up today, and I can only say one thing...If you have any love for point-and-clicks, do yourself a favor and buy it!  It's cute, it's fun, it's funny!  I've played through the first case (of four total, not including the numerous "bonus quests" you can play) and I enjoyed every second of it!

I expect posts of many people talking about how awesome this game is by tomorrow night!  OR ELSE!

This came out?  Already?  o_0

Dammit, what's with the DS rush?  I haven't even gotten far in Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2: March Of The Minis, only finished Star Fox Command once, recently finished Mega Man ZX and Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime, briefly started Children Of Mana and Magical Starsign, am partway through Contact, and was looking forward to CastleVania: Portrait Of Ruin and maybe Scurge: Hive.  And now this?  Where were these games in the first few months of the DS after I was bored with Super Mario 64 DS two years ago?  >_<

*sigh*

I love point-and-click adventure games.  I heard this game only has one save slot, which sucks (I share games with my brother).  And that there's not much music...or was it sound?  Still, the main character is cute, in a creepy detective kind of way.

Does the story become strangely intertwined and kind of epic like in Phoenix Wright, or is it just a few disconnected cases?

There are a few instances of silence (no BGM, not sound effects) in the game, but nothing that really bothered me...

And I'll have to get back to you on any possible connection between the cases...

I've heard that some of the puzzles use really dumb logic to solve them...

I don't care. I'm getting it anyways. It already looks more interesting than Trace Memory.

IGN gave this a really poor score...then again, most of us think IGN sucks.

A friend of mine is really looking forward to the game, saying that it reminds him of "The Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy" with a gothic look to it. While another friend of mine is too freaked out by the style in order to give it a try.

I'll wait for some more reviews. In the meantime, is the game as twisted as the artwork suggests?

"Dumb logic"?  Just like a lot of great adventure games?  Look at Monkey Island!  Complaining about "dumb logic" in an adventure game is like complaining there are too many Goombas in a Mario game...

And yes the game is twisted in a weird and cute way, not a sick way...

I preordered from gamestop back in july.  I just checked and they have my order status as back ordered.  that doesn't mean sqaut to me, because they take forever to send me email that it has shipped, or to update the status in my account too.  I have no idea when I will get it.  I know not today.

I went to Target, Best Buy, and three (3!) Gamestops. None of them had the game. Where did you get it, Bill?

I'm going to have to look into getting it.
I thought it looked pretty cool and I'm a fan of the old school point-and-clicks games so if it plays like that I'm all set.

I hope this doesn't turn into a ultra rare game. I need to wait another week before I have money to pick it up. =(

Does your local indy gamestore ship? Can I buy there by mail-order?

I just got this and a couple other games for my birthday recently.  I love Mackenzie's thought bubbles on the top screen. XD

So, I'm considering purchasing this for an eleven year old who wishes "people made detective games", and is getting a DS Lite for Christmas (perfect or what?) But I've heard it has some "risque humor." For those who've played it, how bad is it on that score? No worse than Phoenix Wright, I hope?

I'm part way through the last case (haven't looked at the side-quest things yet), and I think I've only encountered one instance of such humor.  I don't remember what it was, though.  I wouldn't worry about it.  It is rated E, you know.

Risque humour is not all that common, and when it is it's nice and subtle...So there are no worries about scarring a young kid for life...

Good, good. I'd hate for the little fella to grow up to be like you, Bill. I'll go ahead and buy this, then. Thanks.

I'm loving this game, but it plays REAL SLOW for me. I guess this is what they were talking about when they were saying it had uninteresting cases and some weird logic. Actually, I find it interesting, but I seem to be playing the game one puzzle element at a time...

Don't get me wrong! I'm still on the first level but loving the small things about this game more and more!

It doesn't help that I'm playing this game right before falling asleep. That's how I played Phoenix Wright... I play my DS adventure games in bed to put me to sleep so I never make a lot of progress and often fal;l asleep in the middle of a case/puzzle/whatever and wake up to find my DS still on...

This game is totally fantastic. <3 Solutions to some of the puzzles are a bit weird at times, but that's a good thing for adventure games. :]

Touch Detective 2.5 localization has been officially announced by Atlus!  I was worried they wouldn't bring this one over!  So happy... ;_;
