Title: IMPRESSIONS: Mario Strikers Charged
Post by: Pale on September 18, 2006, 03:00:46 PM
Didn't this game come out already?

I got some time in with Mario Strikers Charged at the Wii event last week.  The first thing anyone will notice about the game is that it looks exactly the same as the GameCube version.  It has to be almost a direct engine port of the title.  The main portion of the game even controls the same way.  Upon reading the placard below the screen I discovered that if you shake the remote as you slide tackle it is supposed to make you hit harder.  I didn’t really notice any difference though.  As seen in the trailer you also use the pointer to block shots if and only if your opponent executes a charge shot against you.  This works effectively and it’s nice to actually control the goalie.  It would be nicer if they used it more though, as charge shots get harder and harder to pull off as the difficulty of your opponent goes up.

The main addition to the title, online multiplayer, was not shown in any form, so we will just have to take their word for it.  Most Strikers fans will tell you that that’s reason enough to pick up the sequel.  I just wish they'd do a little bit more.  If there was one bright spot to the demo, it proved that the nunchuck setup can be effective in a more traditional control scheme, as it felt just like the GameCube version.  With no release date announced, maybe the developers will add some more new things to the title in the coming months.

I read somewhere about Nintendo mentioning that they might have to charge less for  few of these games (Battalion Wars and Mario STrikers) that basically appeared on the Gamecube.  I hope that's the case.

But that was for remakes. BWii is an actual sequel, and Strikers also seems to be new...ish. They'll prob both be full price.

Hmm...online Strikers? Giant Virtual Leagues? ...urhsome.

Well the overall graphic style is pretty similar; however, Strikers has a HUGE number of things happening on screen at once compared with its predecessor. I mean, that crowd around the field is just crazy.

The next licensed soccer game needs to be based on International Philosophy.

Besides the crowd and the little PIP thing I think it looks the same if not worse using those two videos as comparisons. (Never actually played the game)

Sue me for not noticing some random motion on the sidelines.  I really wonder if they were even there in the demo I played.  That doesn't change the fact that it is obviously the same engine.

But like I said in the impressions, online play (which wasn't shown) will most likely still make it a worthy sequel.

Do you see a cheering crowd in that picture?  Yeah, that's me playing the game.

Photobucket isn't working for me right now.  But there is a crowd of 1 maybe 2 people up in the middle of the picture.  Maybe you can get more as you go along...

Edit:  Maybe thats a tree...

Well in this game the stadium you play in acually effects the gameplay, also there are new people and you can have more than 1 sidekicks on your side.

It is'nt much but hey, online play was enough to make Halo two so popular.
