Title: Why are Xbox Live Arcade games so big?
Post by: GoldenPhoenix on August 27, 2006, 10:26:23 AM
I was wondering if you guys could answer this question for me, I noticed that most of Xbox Live's Arcade games are around 20-30mbs and that includes games like pacman. What is the reason for the files being so large?

They are all required to be HD.

HD alone doesn't cause that kind of difference, at least for Pac Man. Perhaps they included more stuff than was included in the original game?

Bloat. programmers write bigger code as storage gets bigger. Lazy scumbags.

For actual arcade XBLA games, they need to include the emulator, then there's usually a few loading screens, maybe an intro video, background music, updated graphics, background images for the game itself (arcade bezel), etc.
