Title: OT: Not really sure were to file this. - McDonald's and Mario
Post by: BlkPaladin on August 23, 2006, 06:39:23 PM
Well I work as a manager at one of the local McDonald's as my job until I graduate from College but we just recently recieved a box that caught my interest. It seems after a long heatius Nintendo is realeasing some Super Mario Toys for the next set of toys. I will have a picture of the display and the dates when they will be available.

The toys are based off the Mario Sports line, and they are having a contest to win a free DS Lite and 2 Mario games. And the toys will be released the first of September.

Do they look like this?

No, they are based off the sports line. The first toy is a pedometer shaped like Yoshi, the second is a sludge hammer and ball called the Mario Swing and Hit, the third is a yoshi with a ball in it mouth were you pound an air piece and the ball pops into the air, then a ball that looks like a squashed Mario, the firth is a air spinner toy with Donkey Kong on it, and the last one is a fresbie type toy with Donkey Kong on it.

I don't have a scanner or camera here so I will get one and post the pics latter tonight.

EDIT: It's not a pedometer, I opened the case and got the display out where they have the toys inside already mounted. It just a bauble where you press the saddle on his back and he sings the Yoshi theme song. I say the sports line because the menu inserts have pictures from the promos from Mario Tennis and Baseball.

We have Burger King and Hungry Jacks here, they sell the exact same stuff! Also beetroot is bloody great on hamburgers!

I could accually see putting beets (red pickled verity) on a burger they taste about the same as a pickle plus they are bigger. (I love my pickled red beets.)

Also I guess this thread is kind of doomed to be OT.

No, we DON'T have Burger King any more, because Hungry Jacks stopped them from trying to muscle in and swipe all their customers.  All the Burger Kings that popped up have been converted to Hungry Jacks now.  To Non-Australians:  Long story short - Hungry Jacks was a place in WA that got the Burger King license and established their own franchise here.  The franchise spread to the rest of the country.  A few years ago, BK tried to bring their own chain in, to compete with HJ's.  Which was stupid, because Burger King doesn't have the Grilled Chicken Burger, and they could never compete with that piece of genius.  (Not even Maccas could compete against that.  Remember when they tried to release their OWN Grilled Chicken Burger, with grated carrot?  Of course you don't.)  So, Hungry Jacks is teaming up with Nintendo and releasing Mario toys at the moment, to celebrate the 20 years of Mario (Super Mario Bros. came out in 1986, right?  Meh, close enough.)  New Super Mario Bros. also had promotional inserts where you could enter a competition to win a trip for four to the US with spending money to spend at the Nintendo Store in NY.

And knowing is half the battle!

(Blimey, there very well MIGHT be rogue Burger Kings lurking somewhere in the country, I don't know.  But all the ones I know of in Vic are all Hungry Jacks now.)

from my research there is burger kings, but they're not the same burger kings as american burger king......the reason why they are called hungry jack in aus is because some squatter took the name first.

Ah HAH!

At the same time the Burger King™ Corporation embarked on an expansion program opening company and franchised restaurants under the Burger King™ trademark. This strategy was later reviewed and it was agreed that a single brand was more appropriate and that the 30 year heritage of the Hungry Jack’s®  trademark was the most appropriate to move the business forward.

The king is dead, long live Jack.

Grated carrot and beets?  WHAT?  Actually, far be it from me to complain about what people put on their food, that's totally un-North American, but it sounds good to me.

Edit: I always admire Nintendo toys when they're available at fast food places, but I don't really need to add them to the mountain of pointless stuff I have at home.

Those are the first Nintendo themed fast food toys I've seen that aren't horribly disfigured.

Think beetroot is crazy, try this.  Burger Edge rocks.  Nando's is awesome too.  (I'm sorry for derailing this thread with Australian food-related products.)

Nando's is Portuguese, and yeah, I love it. It's only available in Vancouver or Toronto here though, I think. Definitely not in Calgary.

Hey, BlkPaladin... You DID know that you can just look on the bottom of the Happy Meal boxes and it tells you what the next toy set is going to be, right?

Yeah but for that you need a Happy Meal box.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but my fiancee just came home with this awesome beast today. I am also going to be getting all of the decals for the windows plus I have an extra copy of all the toys unopened and a few of the happy meal bags.

If you look on the Yoshi side of the bag you will see they didn't do much research they say throw up multiple sports balls and try to catch them like Yoshi catches friut the last time I cheaked that was with his tongue.

They list the next few on the marketing bulletin they send out each month. It just that I don't stay up on what's the next toy, it's not the center of my life.

The edit in the previous post makes my comment appear a little less relevant. Deal with it.

I've got three of them, but one of the ones I don't have is the one I really want...the Mario Power Tennis Hammer!
