We aren't going to get any launch type announcements from this. Though we will probably get updates for all of the launch titles hopefully. (Especially hoping for more in-depth Project H.A.M.M.E.R. information)

I think its obvious they are going to release the launch date and price, as they themselves said that in september they are going to release the info. As Ive said before though, I dont understand why people get so worked up about a launch date or price, unless the launch date is tomorrow who cares for the specific date? Ill rather get more new titles announced than the date of release, or more video footage.

i, personally, would like to know launch date in order to plan accordingly. price isnt so much an issue since i know it wont exceed $250 and i'll probably limit myself to two games, so saving up would be easy.
if i knew what day it would release on i could request off from work, go to the mall i work at anyway and get in before it opens, walk passed my store and say hi to whomever is opening that day so they can laugh that even though its my day off i'm still in the mall, walk down to the gamestop thats a few stores away from mine and wait until the doors open at 10 so i could be the first to get it. then i can rush home and play it all day, and probably the next day. i get two days off a week, if i could get them back to back (launch day/day after) i'll be really happy. if i could i'd take a week off from work but thats a little drastic, and i wouldnt get paid so its not all that worth it. call me a loser for doing it that way, but i miss the days of being a kid and simply ditching school, or atleast showing up late just to stay home and play my new video game/ game console. that really is the only way i can do it.
whats everyone elses reasone for wanting to know the launch date so bad?

Well, I want to know the launch date because I need to know what to plan for my B-Day. I am hoping the launch is EARLY November or Late October because my B-Day is on the 17th, and I was hoping to ask for a few Wii games or controllers for my B-Day to make it a cheaper investment. I have stopped buying new Cube games and DS games, and my Cube controllers are worn out so I can't play games accurately. I am just stuck waiting for this new system to come out.
Knowing the price of the system, games, controllers and such would help me plan.
Title: RE: Nintendo Event September 14th
Post by: couchmonkey on August 23, 2006, 08:16:48 AM
I want to know the launch date and price because everyone's endlessly speculating on them and I'm tired of my expectations bouncing back and forth. I will buy the system even if it's $250, but if developers and analysts and media keep speculating that it'll be $200, $170, or even $100, then I'm going to be disappointed if it's $250.
Same thing with launch date, it seems to be narrowing down now, but I've heard people suggesting everything from the last half of October to the end of November. The realistic date now seems to be somewhere in early-mid November, but again, I'm tired of my expectations bouncing back and forth.
Obviously, a lot of people care, these two topics seem to get more responses than anything except maybe Twighlight Princess and Red Steel.
Edit: planning plays a bit of a role in it too, I may take one or two days off. I don't need to know it right now to do that, but at least a couple of weeks in advance.
Title: RE:Nintendo Event September 14th
Post by: Ceric on August 23, 2006, 08:49:40 AM
Planning and I'm tired of speculating about both of those things. There is just not enough variation that could happen in the hardware to make it exciting anymore. I'm ready to move on to the next system for speculation. So I want all the features and limitations of the hardware revealed.
On the VC I want information on that because before we really got game info we got VC info and then they went silent. We've gone a longways with no updates. It's a big feature. We are all interested in.
I'm tired of Game announcements. It's nice to have a lot of games announced. I rather like the large amount of support. Right now though I rather have more information about the games that are already announced. Especially the likes of Project H.A.M.M.E.R. and FF:CC:CB. More MP info and the like.
Thats why I'm anxious.

Knowing how Nintendo is, that may well be when we see/hear an official announcement of the launch date and price.
Wasn't there something about some foreign-language magazine (Spanish? It was called Nintendo Accion or something) that said that their magazine (which would come out on the 15th) would say the date and price. Now I don't know if this refers to the North American release/date and price but if the beans are spilled around that time, it could mean that this Sept. 14 event might reveal to us the date and price we've all been wanting to hear.
Though like I said in another topic...hearing the release date doesn't make the Wii come any faster. Not at all. Either you're waiting for the date that you know, or you're waiting for the announcement of the date and then you're waiting for that release date. Same difference. And I have money saved up regardless of the price (the "realistic" estimates, anyway) so it's not like I have to plan to save up money or anything.
I do want the Wii as much as anybody, but apparently Nintendo wants to hold all their secrets for as long as they can.

Remember not to get your hopes up, as this may be (and will very likely be) a load of game announcements, videos and demonstrations, so don't be dissapointed if it is and start whining. It's actually a good thing, you know, to hear of all these games and their capabilities. The launch date and price will come eventually, so all we can do is be patient.

What's so hard about setting the bar at a safe price and just starting saving, then revising your estimates when you find out that you can afford an extra game when the price really isn't that high?
I've always assumed in my budgeting that the Wii will cost $250 just so that I can be on the safe side.

it's not so much the price as the date. Mostly because I want to pre-order it as soon as possible because I dont want to be waiting weeks after due to shrotages.
Also I found this on Gamespot.11/14/2006 its the date Madden 07 is supposed to be released, so I take from that the console should relese close to that date unless its spekulation but they had it as the actual date instead of TBA like the others.
So has any stores begun taking pre-orders already?

I need the launch date so I can have everything prepared and organized in my room, I've already got most of the stuff except the 5.1 sound system, and I still got to decide if I should pre-order at EB, FS, or new-used game-store. If ease is your concern, pre-ordering online is even easier. My EBgames.com Cube showed up on the broken launch day (Friday). It couldn't be easier/lazier if I had the box opened for me. But then that would ruin the spirituality of the moment.
Besides, not everybody has the luxury of an endlessly stocked Walmart. They haven't penetrated every crack of the country just yet.

I want to know price and date primarily to tell people I'm trying to convince to buy one. Most of the people I'm friends with don't want to hear about something cool that they WANT RIGHT NOW but that'll be released "somewhere in Q4" for "less than $250".
Hard factual info also makes the mainstream hype all the more convincing. No more guesswork, which proper journalists are supposed to hate, but simple OFFICIAL details straight from the big Japanese horses mouth.
Personally, I'd be much more pleased if they outlined a clear VC strategy (especially the pricing).
Anyway, I'm patient. Carry on Nintendo!

Well that is what I wondered but the more I thought about the more it makes sense. I am not expecting any huge announcements like release date along with price, but instead they will be showing off games. Since TGS is such a big event Nintendo probaly thought it would be best to invite people to a Wii party so they are guaranteed to get a chance to play the Wii games, because at TGS the long lines could not only impact your opportunity to play these games but also limit your time. So really I think this event is looking to be an event for a select number of people to get in alot of playing time with their games.

I don't think it's upper Nintendo's doing. Besides E3, which would be considered an event for everyone, NOA hasn't had it's own event. The Japan will have TGS, Europe Leipzig, and Reggie Fun Day is what the US is getting for their conference. It's sort of archiac when you look at it. It's like these events where plan like the Internet was not around.
It's going to be an event that will focus on the media and concerns of the US demographic. The Canada branch might get in on it too to save budget. That makes the most sense.
That being said we might get the US price though not a launch date. More hands on and hopefully they'll pass out Devkits to the press at this event. Things like that.

I think it is actually pretty smart. Getting more media attention and giving them more time. Making the media feel like royalty always gets better press. Less lines, better press, individual attention instead split among all other participates of a trade show. Finally, if you drop a nice bomb like the launch date and price then you cause major hype, that leads into TGS.
So what does Nintendo do at TGS...simple, finally completely outline the Wii24Connect potential, the Virtual Console prices and how it works, and list of all Wii games played to go online in 2007. That would be huge TGS press Conference that will hype all the way into launch date.

Nintendo not at TGS this year and their not even having a Press Conference. Them having their own show ten days earlier mean two thing 1 they need to have it ten days earlier because of an early oct Wii release!!! and 2 Reggie want to blow away Iwata's IWATATON with his own REGGIETON a year later!

Neither. That would be "the Wii is launching....right now!"
Announcing the launch date a month before would be the best of both worlds: it would still be an attention-grabbing "surprise" launch, but it would also give stores (just) enough time to prepare.
edit: this would also (and I know I'm grasping here) be in line with what we've been hearing from developers. Originally, it sounded like they were shooting for an October launch, but now it seems like they're shooting for Novemeber. It sounds to me like this could be classic Nintendo spin control: when ign figured out the GameCube controller's button layout by talking to third parties, Nintendo got third parties to "correct" ign's mockup with misinformation.

Here is the hype I will predict.
No new hardware reveals, except maybe extra attachments. We still need to see the headset/microphone that will be used for communication online.
We will get launch information, price, and games.
So what will be the big surprise? It will be the games. I predict nearly final versions of all launch games including, final graphical builds and final control schemes for games like Metroid Prime, Red Steel, Zelda and more.
I expect new demos of Mario Galaxy to blow us away. And for the Germany demos of Strikers and BWii to be just as awesome as they were before.
Finally, I expect a demo version of Brawl to be on hand to blow the media away. It will be a big huge deal, and Nintendo will even hold a limited tournament with the winner getting a priced limited edition DS.
The supposed hardware news will be the unveiling of Wii24Connect's Virtual Console services. Nintendo will have a partial list of available games at launch that will completely destory Xbox Arcade's game list. We will get a price structure, and see how the interface works. Finally, it will to noted that these purchases can take place on your computer and 24WiiConnect will automatically download them to your Wii, or you can buy access cards in stores that will grant you the ability to download games.
Those are my predictions.

That game would be known as Mario Galaxy . I think on September 14th will reveal launch price and date, a couple new games, new playable demos of Red Steel, Mario Galaxy. and Metroid Prime 3. I also thing they will announce what will be included with the system which I think will be 2 Wiimotes, 2 nunchuck attachments, Wii sports, headset (so they can have voice recognition), and maybe 1 or 2 free VC downloads.

Yeah, could you imagine getting a limited Edition DS lite with a laser etching of the Smash Brothers Brawl logo on it. It would kick major buttocks.
They could even do this with limited character. If Nintendo could have 5-6 characters ready and perfectly balanced they could have a tournament. If they had more even better.
Other potentially cool suprise games we could get would be:
Wii Brain Training: Now with motion based games to test reflexes and eye hand coordination.
Wii lil Nintendogs: Ok silly name, but Nintendogs with the Wii opens up tons of possibilities that could be amazing for the game.
Kirby Wii: That Kirby Gamecube game disappeared...perhaps it is becoming a Wii game.
Wii Kart Racer: Eventually (it is WILL happen someday) Mario Kart will be upgraded to just Nintendo Kart, and like Smash Brothers will incorporate Nintendo characters from all games. I could see the Wii version being that game. And before you say it would ruin the game. Think about the courses through Mute City, Hyrule, Dream Land, along with levels like Bowser's Castle. It could be a blast. And open the game up for much more intense and crazy racing action.

Thought about it. Think it would ruin the game more. It's having that coherent theme to tie everything together which makes the series distinct. You just get this odd feeling of having say Mario throwing a boomerang. *Shrug* I didn't like how it changed with the arcade version tracks. They didn't all feel like Mario Kart.

It better be some big news, it kinda has to be. They need to steal the Thunder from TSG a bit. PS3 is planning on doing some heavy announcing from what I've read about, so they need to make people not even care what Sony has to say.
In other words, Wii needs to attack for massive damage on Sept 14-15!

Sorry, I rather not fall for the hype...
I expect at least some launch details, but nothing more than that.
Sorry if I am very skeptic, but even when Nintendo does show some impressive stuff, they also tend to overhype minor stuff. I mean, their pre-E3 conference was good but it was NOTHING like the hype it built.
So I am playing it safe with these announcements.

Ok I think they will do the following:
-Release Date and Price (along with what is bundled) -Almost finished builds of Red Steel, Mario Galaxy, BWii and Mario Strikers -Reveal the last "secret" -More information, perhaps all the information on VC and what games will be available
Why do I think they will release so much here in the US? Because I think Nintendo thinks Japan is almost a synch to win and it would give Wii great publicity for most of the "megatons" to be dropped in the United States for publicity purposes.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the basic details of the Virtual console, like prices and games available at launch. Oh and maybe some details on WiiConnect 24.
I doubt they will reveal one last secret of the console, we pretty much know what the console will have.
And from the wishful thinking department, maybe an updated SSB Brawl. trailer revealing some of the new characters, including some third party ones.

I could honestly care less about the price and launch date. We already know for sure it's going to be released within the next few months and much cheaper than the competition. So I'm really hoping for new game announcements. You know what I love? Being almost right. • Forward compatibility in Zelda: TP • The Wii (then Revolution) controller being an upside down mouse with a blue light? • Sonar in the controller (speaker)
Look at that track record, pretty damned 71% if I do say so myself. Now I bring you the final (mostly craptacular) speculation of them all!!!
Sometime is the past I said "fear not, for there are other specs". Well, that was wrong. Then why did I bring that up you say? I don't know. But what I do know is Nintendo has been full of surprises for about the last 18 months but enough of my useless pontificating.

Ha. This would be really funny, if Nintendo was able to announce next week launching in October.
Hell, this announcement could allow Nintendo (IF games were ready) to launch in the US first alone in October, then November in Japan, and December in Europe.
Imagine: Mid October having 1 million Units available for us. Mid November having 1.5 million Units available for Japan. Early December having about 1 million Units available for Europe.
An additional shipment could be sent to each market before the end of the holiday season.
This strategy could totally neuter PS3s launch excitement, and more importantly software sales.

I dunno I was in charge of our Xbox 360 launch and if memory serves me right we recieved the kiosk a few days prior to launch day and I set it up the morning of. So that would be telling us once again a late october early November release.
Title: RE: Nintendo Event September 14th
Post by: Grant10k on September 07, 2006, 01:42:12 AM
They are probably being vague on purpose. If they said: "We are going to deliver the kiosk on the 28'th of October. You should probably have it set up that night, don't wait for the morning...You should probably vacuum your store as well, make it all pretty looking. Oh, and move all large objects away from you front counter, enough to make room for a huge line of customers, no reason. Is your store open the next day, that's entirely coincidentally a Sunday right? You should probably open up even if you have religious reasons, no reason, who said there was a reason, I didn't say there was a reason........28'th"
Then people might suspect foul play is afoot.
Title: RE: Nintendo Event September 14th
Post by: couchmonkey on September 07, 2006, 05:06:28 AM
Ah, you could still close your store for religious reasons (or just plain leisure reasons) on Sunday, it's not like there wouldn't be a huge lineup of people on Monday, grateful they get a second chance to witness the awesomeness of Wii.
Edit: Hey, this isn't the launch date wild predictions thread! I'm moving my predictions on over!

Confirmation that Nintendo uses FedEx. News indeed. Actually I was wondering if there is a place actually assembling Wii's here in the States. There is no exact time for the Japanese event yet I think, which is the first one. All that's known is Thursday. A fair guess would be between 10am and 2pm Japan time. For the US that would be sometime around Wednesday night.

Alot of speculation is being made that we will see an early release, but not so early as October 2nd, I'm guessing for a early November release if not late October then.

You know, I haven't heard them officially say that they will announce the date and price....so maybe they won't.
You'd think that with all this Wii hype and everyone expecting them to say the date and price now, they would call it "The Nintendo Wii Relase Date and Price Revelation Press Conference" to hype it up a bit more, if they're going to reveal such details.
Then again, maybe they could be revealing a lot more than just a release date and price... o_0

They should call it "The Nintendo Wii Release Date and Price Press Conference Revelation Press Conference" and, on Thursday, simply announce when they're going to announce the exact release date and price.

...now watch it happen.
Quote When does the event in japan start for EST? I want to know what time i have to start checking PGC every 2 minutes for news.
No offence to PGC, but I expect things to go something like this:
-Japanese price and launch date announced. -five hours pass with no update to the main site. -PGC puts up a press release.
Oh, but you probably meant the forums.

I've heard of European and Australian prices (of games, consoles, and related things) sometimes being higher than North American prices (after conversion).
Of course, my memory could be wrong, but aren't Japanese prices, after conversion, much closer to American/Canadian prices (at least closer than European and Australian prices are)?
So this may be stating the obvious, but the Japanese price, if revealed before the North American price, would lead us to some very close estimates.
I seem to remember the GameCube was cheaper here in Canada when it first came out (at least in some places), even including the 7% GST at the time. Now our GST is 6%, and the dollar is something like 0.90 US, or at least closer than it was in 2001, so if it turns out to be $149.99 US, for example, they may make it $149.99 Canadian instead of $167.67. Then again they may more likely make it $174.99 Canadian, which would be more...but not by much...but still...

"One Piece at a Time" is a classic Country song by Johnny Cash. The story is that, while working at a factory assembling Cadillacs, "he" (not Johnny Cash, but the person in the song) got the idea to steal him a Cadillac - one piece at a time - and put it together at his home, getting himself a free Cadillac.
The reference was that someone should get hired on for this job and steal them a Wii, one piece at a time, from the factory.

You could drive around to the back and get a faulty/broken windshield from the dumpster. Then you could have a complete Cadillac - albeit with a few broken parts - and take that to an auto shop and just get those parts repaired or replaced for a small fraction of the cost of the whole vehicle.
The Wii being as small as it is, could probably be smuggled out whole once, which would probably have a higher success rate than smuggling out a few parts each time for a number of times.

Because basically, people are going to wake up and read the Japanese information, and comment, which will lead to US announcements and discussion. One new thread is plenty. Dunno... If Nintendo wanted to drag this out, maybe they would only release Virtual Console info in the Japan session, what's included in the box, system accessories, and launch titles at the US session, and then price and availiblity at the EU session.

When you're in Daylight Savings Time, you're supposed to switch from using EST to EDT so that people who don't observe Daylight Savings know what time you're talking about. Ok here is my FINAL prediction for the Wii events:
Price=179.99 with two wiimotes/nunchucks, Wiisports, basic red, yellow, white hookup Release Date=November 2nd New features=built in mic New games=Kid Icarus and new Miyamoto IP Virtual Console lineup: 25 VC games, mostly from 3rd parties (also an announcement that Sega CD games will be available in the future) Launch lineup=20 launch games including ExciteTruck, Project Hammer, Zelda TP and all of Ubisofts announced games along with the other ports, in addition to Elebits Specs=I doubt specs will be revealed but I have a feeling they are right around what IGN reported on but with slight increases here and there like a 1ghz processor. More ram Playable games: Near final builds of Red STeel (which I predict to be a much more attractive experience), Zelda: TP, Batallion Wars, Mario Soccer, Mario Galaxy, Project Hammer, Metroid Prime 3, Excitetruck, Ubisofts other titles On video only: Kid Icarus, Smash Brothers Melee (New footage), Day of Disastor (some gameplay footage), Miyamotos IP
The end

Price: $199.99-$229.99 Includes: Two Wiimotes, Wii Sports, a certain number of "points" used to buy VC games (not much, one or two games) News: -A point system for buying VC games (different games will cost different amounts, not one set price for every system). Certain games will be free with purchase of console game, Metroid with Metroid Prime 3, and MAYBE Zelda with TP. - No mic sorry. MAYBE headset if you're lucky. - New accesories, don't know what -Day of Crisis will be shown -New IP will be shown -No Kid Icarus sorry. -Launch date in November, probably around 14 or something I don't know. -Launches with games and stuff. - Black and White available at launch. -White would match my DS, but black would match my computer =( -Don't know if I can wait till christmas =( -BRANDY NEW games to be avaiable on VC -There WILL be online launch games from at least Nintendo, BIG DAMN TRUCKS
Playable games: Twilight Princess will be shown big time, E3 sucked for TP. Red Steel as well, which won't be as great as everyone is hoping. New sword mechanics though, so that's cool. Some other stuff, Excite Truck, Elebits, HAMMER, whatever.

Well I do think there is a good chance for Kid Icarus since he is in Smash Brothers, it has been so long since we've seen him in a game it makes little to no sense to have him be a playable character without a game to back him up. On the mic, you may be right but I think if there is a headphone it will be included in order to get companies to utilize the microphone in games. Yeah, I didn't think so. :P
The Ice Climbers were in Melee and we still haven't seen a return of them. And if I had to guess, I think more people know who Pit is before seeing that he is a Smash Brother than the Ice Climbers.
Anyway, I'm not nixing the idea of another Kid Icarus game, and demand for it means a game is possible and even likely. It'll probably be for next year, though, don't want to drown out his comeback with Zelda and Metroid this year!
