Title: Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
Post by: Killer_Man_Jaro on August 21, 2006, 10:36:53 PM
Quote ONM: How many new games can we expect in Wario Ware Smooth Moves for the Wii? GA: We're thinking around the 200 figure, which is similiar to other games in the series.
ONM: You have to make yourself look silly to play this game. Do you think people will be embarassed to play it? GA: Yes, you do look silly playing it. One of the main goals was to make people do silly moves and entertain the people around them.
ONM: How long has the game been in development? GA: A little over 6 months, and Nintendo has announced it will be released within 90 days of the Wii hardware launching.
ONM: Will Smooth Moves use the Wii Remote's speaker function? GA: Yes, it will. We have a game where you bounce a ball on a tennis racket. As well as the vibration we will also have the sound of the ball. We are also planning on a game where the Wii Remote makes a sound and the player has to react to it.
ONM: Have you got any other ideas for Wii games other than Smooth Moves? GA: Presently I would like to implement all my ideas into Wario Ware. However, there are ideas that wouldn't really work in the game so I will have to include them in my next project. Unfortunately, that will have to remain a secret for now!
Extract from interview of Goro Abe, director of Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, in the August issue of Official Nintendo Magazine.
Personally, I think this game has the cleverest and most in-depth use of the motion technology so far. Those of you who have seen the trailers and videos will have seen the likes of running, hula hoop, squat thrusts, balancing a broom, fencing, shredding paper and so on. The mini-games are incredibly simple, but the motion tech has been implemented very effectively and Smooth Moves looks like a really fun (and funny) game to play.

Hey I'm interseted in this "next project". Smooth Moves is a must-have for me, though.

I find the different mindsets here very amusing...

This game is coming out incredibly soon and I can't wait. When I first heard I really didn't care at all but after watching a few of the game videos online and playing Wii I have gotten really psyched.
Has anyone else seen the new english videos? The voice that explains how to hold the remote is pure gold.

As much as i have been looking forward to this game I havnt been able to find any sort of multiplayer function what so ever. I start up the game and the only option is single player mode. According to Nintendo's own webpage its up to 4 players (http://www.nintendo.com/gamemini?gameid=7vgUzwrkjswZ6wiUXTtZQB8ji6_uPB3v) but the user manual doesnt mention any option for multiplayer (the manual btw is in 2 languages and only about 6 pages long for both languages) and even the back of the box has a 1 in the Wiimote symbol (which i didnt discover until after i booted up the game and saw only single player mode). The one played mode is a lot of fun and the voice teaching you how to hold the wiimote is priceless, but i really wanted this game for its multiplayer action. There is another option on the start up screen that is covered with a newpaper so you cant access it. Hopefully after i beat 1 player mode it will open up and reveal what the deal is.
EDIT: I just read on another website that you have to beat 1 player mod to unlock multi-player mode. This leads me to some hope, but im still disappointed that i will have to beat a game before i can play it with my friends.

Has anyone else picked this up? I'm suprised that there is virtually no talk about this since it has been released everywhere except Australia.
I have not played it very much yet, but it seems to be pretty cool so far.

I got my copy today. I really like it. Most of the games are really fun. And it is true you look like an idiot doing some of the movements but that's what makes it so fun. I got my girlfriend to try it with me. She liked everything she tried but the track sprint.

I just arm wrestled Shigeru Miyamoto...and won. Awesome.
(This is because I have a Miyamoto Mii, not because he is a standard part of the game.)

I personally think this smokes rayman raving rabbids out of the water. If Wario Ware was a launch title I'm more than positive I wouldn't touch RRR with a 10 foot pole.

I am having a lot of fun with this game. Definitely the best pick-up-and-play Wii title I have played so far. I have already beaten the "story" mode (as in found all the characters and reached their respective bosses), but the fun of WarioWare is all in the replay for me.

QFT.
Rayman was cute, but WW goes above and beyond the call of duty.
This is probably because RRR was designed to be ported to other consoles while WW was built with the Wii and only the Wii in mind.

My only guess is that they all simply became button mashers on other consoles, which would result in a pretty damn weak game.

RRR is listed for ten platforms on GameFAQs, last time I checked. GCN, Wii, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, GBA, DS, PSP, PC. That is pretty much everything currently out there, unless you were hoping for a Mac version. All three last-gen, all three current-gen, all three handhelds, and the PC. I don't think I've ever seen a game supposedly being ported to so many platforms so far. Though some of them (the handheld ones I'm pretty sure) are supposedly just platforming adventures, but they're still making use of the title.

All console versions of the game are the party game collection seen on the Wii. The handheld ones are indeed platformers.
But considering the game was released on the Wii first and made great use of the controller, I wonder if people will remember it as a Wii game rather than a multiplatform game...

I've decided against Wario Ware since it's billed as a party game and I still have more of those than I need in Rayman.

QFT = Quoted for Truth.
I bought this game, and upon watching through the first few minutes of unskippable video alone it put most of my family off it. It's "too stupid" and too "pointless" to play.

I just got it last night and all I have to say after inviting my friends over is -- not including any multiplayer funtions until 1P mode is finished in a game that is presented as one of the premier party games is outright asinine.
I wonder if some people buy Halo 2 and never touch the campaign. I wonder what those people would have thought if Bungie had made multi an unlockable after beating the game once.
I read someone say in another thread that they want all the multiplayer out of the box. I say that some multiplayer content can be locked; I'm cool with that. Unlock it by playing MULTIPLAYER. Unlock single player content by playing single player. NEVER hide HALF the game, especially if that mode is critical to the game's presentation, which in this case it is.
Dammit, it makes me hope that 1P mode is really short, but in reality I don't hope for that at all.
And while I'm in gripe mode... I can't stand that going to the minigame menu and selecting an individual game will not let you play endlessly at an increasing rate of difficulty for hundreds of minigame high scores. That's where I wasted all my time in the very first Wario Ware, and it was a blast!
Know how it is here? You select your difficulty on a slider, then you play three rounds (15 seconds) of the game. Then you're done. No high scores, no true challenge (since it doesn't stop the three step progression if you lose one of the rounds), no fun whatsoever. What were they thinking? I loved this mode and it was one of the reasons I bought this game in the first place. Had I known what it was like, I very likely would not have made the purchase. Pathetic.

Here are the weekly sales of Wii games in the US: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. WarioWare: Smooth Moves (Nintendo) 2. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo) 3. Rayman Raving Rabbids (Nintendo) 4. Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Atlus) 5. Madden NFL 07 (EA Sports)
Funny how Zelda is sandwiched between two insane mini game based games, and even with Wario ware out Rabbids still has staying power.

I am really liking it. The dancing cat level is the best idea EVER. One thing though is that I wish they didn't include the nunchuk at all and instead made Orbulon more minigames using just the remote. If they want to use the nunchuk I would just make the sequel all nunchuk and remote.

I could not stop smiling for the first half-hour of this game. Ridiculouslessly awesome. Dozyboy, if you mean what I think you mean, there's a mode (a set, in fact) that you can start unlocking after beating the game. Rat, the Turtle and Hare is indeed broken, as near as I can tell. Don't ask me why. Sometimes the shredding game breaks as well. Got no idea there, either.

I have to say it is the best use of Miis outside of WiiSports (... the only other use of Mii) I like the staff credits if you point the remote at the screen you can drop the staff's Mii's through a hole. They are wear some non-standard Mii clothing which makes me think they may up date what you wear. It also looks like they enhanced the Miis using textures on disc they just used the Mii setting numbers.
Title: RE:Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
Post by: SixthAngel on January 19, 2007, 03:48:16 PM
The credits I really like how they made the credits into its own game, it can suck to have to wade through the ending credits. The Mii costumes they had on as well as the mii functionality in the game showed that individual games can add a lot to your Mii's. They can use just the head and probably only parts of the face if they want. If Nintendo adds new costumes/etc. to the mii channel and not just to individual games expect them to cost money though. Look at games like Pangya and you can see how successful this would be business wise. I think it is just a matter of time.
I don't think I ever smiled so much playing a game before.

I have more or less "beat" this game. I have unlocked all the levels, all one-player mini games, and beat all the levels on the block-stacking minigame. I have not yet got a perfect score on the credits and there might be some multiplayer minigames that I have not unlocked (I only have darts).
Of course, the fun of WarioWare is not in just completing the adventure. I'm going to try to continually 1-up all of my high scores. My first goal will probably be to get to level 50 on all the levels (except for the crazy difficult elephant levels).
Edit: I think the Tortoise and Hare minigame works fine. It is not terribly fun, but it is not broken either. On the other hand, Balloon Trip is a Balloon FLOP.

the balancing game is pretty cool, i hate what nintendo did with how to save games to sd cards and such..its a pain in the ass...why cant i use my gamecube memory card for my wii games? pisses me off. nintendo made the system as hack proof as possible, but it just lets you down in many ways due to it

I thought the same, until my fiancee pointed out to me that you need to play the game just as you see it. Literally put your hands in the air and move them up and down as the game shows. After doing that, I had no problems. The game is not particularly fun anyway and as they call out flags faster it gets tougher and tougher.

Great game, but in terms of single player, much like previous Wario Ware games, the longevity is nil. You can have everything beaten and unlocked in six hours or so.
As a multiplayer game, it's awesome, but single player isn't going to keep your attention for too long.

Or try Wario ware strip...
Here's what you do...
First, make sure the guests are composed of really hot, horny girls that suck at games. Then get them drunk with a round of Drunken Wario. Then make sure the girls are so drunk that they are willing to do ANYTHING. Offer them the chance of playing Wario ware strip.
How it works is whenever a player falls off the sky in that multiplayer mode that player MUST strip naked. The last player standing gets to be fully clothed...but not for long if the girls are horny enough...

Haha if you think thats bad check this out:
some of you might remember i worked at the Nintendo World Store in nyc last holiday reason(had a thread about trying to land the job). We had lots of really gullible customers come in that believed almost anything you'd tell then about the wii. every time we had someone play wario ware on one of the bigger screens that had more playing room and they seemed to like it (and every one did) we'd have them try that dancing level and tell them the wii knew if you were shaking your booty or not.
they believed it every time usually because they would lose on their first try and would ask “was i doing something wrong?” The best was when this really hot chick did it.. She was too scared to try at first, so was her boyfriend but she convinced him to do it. Once he did it him, some of the other guys i worked with and myself all egged her on until she danced for us. We told her to face off against her man and she accepted the challenge.. Boy could she move..
