Crap. I went into Overstock.com's live Customer Service chat and spoke with someone who claimed that if I ordered this item, I would get exactly what was shown in the photo. I copied the chat to my clipboard, but then my computer went all funky and I lost it.
It's all very strange...

Okay, I ordered it. And got a pretty good deal. This is cut and pasted from an AIM conversation, so it might read strangely...
Quote Well, they had a GameCube, refurbished on the site that looks pretty darn cool (and I'm sure you don't get what's pictured). Two different live chat reps assured me I'd get the one pictured. I've *never* seen anything like that before. Ever. But two different reps assured me I would get exactly what was pictured. So, anywhoo, I signed up for the Overstock.com Visa card, getting me $30 off. Then, used a 12% off link to get it for 12% off. During the checkout process, it showed the total being $40.xx. But when I checked out, it totaled out for $70-ish. The regular price minus the 12% off (plus shipping). So, I went back into the live chat, they pulled everything up and gave me a $30 credit off the order. But, when I went back to look in my account to make certian the $30 credit on the order was showing up, I noticed that I had like $20.50 in credit as well. The $30 (fron signing up for a Visa Card) minus the 12% discount. So, I got the GameCube for about $40 off *and* still have $20 in credit.

personally, i dont like the way it looks, but i know you're a collector so im rooting for ya and hope you do get it as shown, and not a regular silver GC.
a NES edition wii would look better, and i've thought so since the first time we were shown the then-Revolution

I don't know how the picture got on there, but I would be shocked if that's what it really is.

Well, first, I'll complain to them a lot and see what they offer me. If I get $20 more in credit, it'd be like getting the Game Cube for free...

I've been looking over this picture and compairing it with my own GameCube and I've noticed something that isn't normal. If you'll look at a regular Game Cube, the lid to the disc tray ends quite some distance before the front of the Game Cube, leaving room for the small, orang-ish light that shows when the Game Cube is on.
However, if you look close at the Classic NES picture, the lid actually appears to wrap around the front (as the NES's lid does), Also, you'll notice there is no place for a light at the top - but there is a red dot on the upper, left hand corner of the front side of the GCNES - is it a red power light like the original NES?
This can't just be a skin/stickers... can it?

it surely isn't just a skin, because, besides the things you mentioned, there's a window in the lid.....

I remember this image circulating the net about 2 years ago. It was presented as a fake then, and I'd be surprised if Nintendo produced a GCN-NES without telling us a thing.
That is a mistake.

I was looking at the date in the original post thinking this was an old thread brought back from the dead (you know how UB does it ). But I remember seeing one of these a long while ago and wanted to buy one back then*...
Maybe I'll buy one now too, since all I have is a Panasonic Q and it malfunctions when I try to play RE4. Even though I'm getting a Black Wii when it comes out it would be nice to actually own a regular GC to store in the closet next to the NES, SNES & N64.
*can't remember if the one I seen oh so long ago was a case modification like this one, or just a skin to cover your regular GC. either way this one looks good and I want one too.

and if you look at the far right & left it come in on it self, the power button is raised, the handle is missing, and the, and the vent/grid is colored (but it look a little off though) so it no way just a skin. anyway if this is real the question is... are their more!!!

stevey brought up a good point. all of the buttons atop the gamecube seem raised and have a fake look to it. in fact the reset and open button look identical and the power button has an odd shadow cast on it. i noticed it in the early hours of the morning when i made my first post, but i dismissed it as my eyes deceiving me due to lack of sleep.

Well, everyone... I've came home today to not one, but two, count 'em two super-exciting e-mails about this situation.
First, I've received a reply from Nintendo's (as usual) wonderful customer service. Here's what I sent them:
-- Dear Random Nintendo of America Customer Service Rep. Two days ago, the following item from Overstock.com was brought to my attention: http://www.overstock.com/?page=proframe&prod_id=1924842 Now, I've never, ever, ever seen or heard of anything like this, nor has anyone else I've spoken with since finding it. However, two different customer service reps from Overstock.com assured me that if I ordered the item, I would get exactly what was shown. So I bit and ordered it (not too bad, after discounts, I got it for about $40 and somehow ended up with $20 left in credit with them). So, while I'm (very) impatiently waiting for my delivery to come (impatiently, mind you), I'm still trying to dig up any info on what the heck this item actually is. This is where you come in. Is there any chance y'all have any clue what I should be expecting in the next few days? I mean, NoA has never really offered a Classic NES edition Game Cube, have they? Thanks in advance for any help. -UB --
The reply I got from them was *SCHOKING* the the eXXXtreme:
-- Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,
The Nintendo GameCube system that you asked about was never released here in the U.S. or Canada, so we don't have any information about it. Instead, I would suggest contacting the seller regarding the origins of these systems and then see what you can find on the Internet.
Sincerely,
Nintendo of America Inc. Dervin Camden --
Well, now that was completely unexpected, wasn't it? The second e-mail was confirmation that my order had shipped via FedEx and should arrive on or about Monday, Aug. 28th.

Probably a Platinum GameCube...
Title: RE: NES Edition Game Cube?
Post by: UncleBob on August 28, 2006, 01:34:16 PM
So I got the package today and, surprise, it was just a regular Platinum GameCube. To make matters worse, it's not even "Factory Refurbished" - At least, not by Nintendo - and thus, doesn't have a one year Nintendo Warranty.
Angry e-mails ahoy!

But wasn't too unexpected.
Actually, the fact that it wasn't actually Nintendo-refurbished was unexpected. I also wasn't expecting the unit to have all kinds of scratches all over it.

Well, sheeet.
I was checking out some thing with my "new" GameCube... I can't use my Intec mobile monitor with this.
For those who don't know, newer GameCubes (DOL-101) had the Digital Video Out ports removed from them. Well, instead of *just* removing this port, they also moved the Analoge port to the spot where the Digital Port was. Now the Intec Mobile Monitor has a plug on it that goes directly into the Analog Port with just enough cable to reach the port... and it's not long enough to reach the newer position of the port on the 101's.

The rule of thumb with being an Illinois resident is to draw a line through the middle of the state and live in the general area NORTH of the line.
And a big condolences for poor Uncle Bob on the NES Gamecube . Always remember tho, NO ONE will ever know what the hell they are talking about if they are selling you videogames but fanboys. Im tellin you peeps there should be some rule that only fanboys should sell video games. We don't pull this crap on our fellow brethren.

Overstock.com update:
Quote Hello yet again!
Today, I received a voice mail about faxing me a return label. When I attempted to call back, the operator forwarded me to the retuns deparment where I sat on hold for awhile before being forwarded back to the operator. Thus, I'm writing in because I felt I've wasted enough of my time with this entire situation.
Let's recap.
First, I see an item advertised on your site. I verify with two different reps that the item I'm ordering is going to be what's shown on the page. Both reps assured me that I'd get exactly what was shown on the page.
Then, I sign up for an Overstock.com credit card to save a little bit of cash on ordering the item, since the offer was to save $30 with approval for the card. I get approved, order the item and, at the last min, the $30 credit is removed from my order. I then have to go back into a chat again to get the $30 credited to my order (after having to explain that I didn't just want my account credited for $30 on a future order).
About a week after I order, I finally get an item in the mail. Not only does this item not look anything like the one pictured, but it is also not Factory Reconditioned like the item description says it is - and, cosmetically, is in fairly poor condition. So I write in an e-mail, asking to be able to return the item and I'm told that "We also plan to expedite the return of your item at no cost to you."
I have to say that I'm not really feeling that this is being expedited...
Sometime later, I finally get an e-mail with return instructions... Telling me that I have to print out my own label to return your falsely advertised item. This would be great, except that I don't have a printer and, outside of work (which is only for work), I don't really have access to a printer.
So I go in yet another chat, where 'Reid' tells me "You should receive the shipping label within 7 days via normal mail." Now this was on Aug 31st, almost a week ago.
Today, I get the aforementioned voice mail from "Ben" who wants my fax number (which I don't have) in order to fax me out a return label. In the voice mail, Ben said that if I didn't have a fax number, he'd get a label mailed out to me and that "it should be there in about three weeks".
Meanwhile, I've got a charge on a credit card that I didn't really need for an item that was nothing close to what was advertised that's going to be due fairly soon - and I was hoping to have the money refunded to the card before then so that I'd have one less bill to worry about. But it would appear that's not going to happen.
So, in reply to the voice mail, no, I do not have a fax machine and yes, as Reid and I stated in our chat, I would like the UPS label mailed out to me within seven days. Thank you.

geez. thats one of the many reasons why i hate dealing with those reps. i hate the stupid run-around bs they give you. i have a $250 mp3 player i bought last feb that doesnt work all that well and i cant do anything about it becuase of the same runaround bs.
first they tell me to take it to the store i bought it from where they would honor my exchange, and this was during the NY Metro strikes (buses and subway lines) so i had to take a train from my crappy town to grand central station and WALK what felt like half of manhattan to get to the j&r music store to find out that they couldnt return or exchange it. this is after calling a day prior so i wouldnt have to waste my only day off from work taking the journey to get there. on the walk back to grandcentral station i try to call up the manufacturers of the mp3 player and get put on hold repeated times by different people until the call ended because a lack of a signal.
then when i get home, tired and aching i have to come online and email these people who reply back a WEEK later with suggestions on how to fix my problem. none of it worked and after repeated emails with several similar replies of trouble-shooting tips, i finally get one saying "fax your receipt and a short description of the problem to this number." problem is i dont have acces to a fax machine, i email back and let them know and am told to call a number for help an again, more run around. one rep passes me off to another, off to another, and off to another, with multiple holds in between and get no straight answers. i gave up. f-that s-it
