Title: Bad Day L.A.
Post by: ShyGuy on August 16, 2006, 08:07:56 AM
I tried the PC Demo of American McGee's new title, and I'm not impressed. It's a free-roaming 3rd person action game where you run around using items like a fire extiguisher and a shotgun to complete your missions. The tone of the game reminded me more of Postal 2 than GTA.
It felt very beta, so maybe it will improve before release. The helping/hurting people dynamic was interesting, but felt poorly executed at times. There is lots of humor (or attempted humor) in the game, but I didn't find the game all that funny, just crass. Really, it makes GTA look classy by comparison. I liked the cell shaded graphics, and it played smooth even on my older PC, but the facial textures need a little work in places.
Any one else try it? Thoughts?

I just played it as well. I was too bored to even finish the demo. I guess blatant cussing and stereotyping turns some peoples' cranks enough to make them enjoy a boring demo.

I'm disappointed the read your comments. Shortly after E3 I stumbled upon the game trailer and thought it looked like it would be really entertaining. I've been looking forward to the XBox version since...

Shame. I remember really liking Alice.

Yeah, Alice was the reason I gave the demo a try. I bought it and beat it way back when and a really liked it, it had great style. It's still a pretty game despite being 6 years old.
Unfortunately, American McGee's sophmore effort doesn't live up.

ShyGuy, this is actually McGee's Junior effort. His sophomore game was Scrapland, which was actually a fun game

I thought he was only a hands-off producer for Scrapland. Hmmm, must investigate further.
