Title: ps2 & psp 30+game genesis packs
Post by: Nephilim on August 10, 2006, 04:07:55 PM
Quote Sega today announced that Sega Genesis Collection, a compilation of more than 30 Genesis titles, is being released this fall for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. Sega did not differentiate between the two versions but did confirm that the PSP version would take advantage of the handheld's capabilities. A full list of the games in the compilation hasn't yet been released, but Sega did reveal that Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog, Shinobi III, Altered Beast, and a Phantasy Star game (likely Phantasy Star II) would be included. The collection will also feature unlockables, such as interviews with the developers of the original titles, game hints, and some Sega arcade games from the late 1980s and early 1990s

But can the psp2 play the games with a genesis controller. The price of 30 genesis games on the VC could be cheaper & with DS download play this isn't that big of a blow since the Wii is better in every way....

Well what is officail is the DS's ability to download DEMOS of the Wii...If that escalates into anything else is unknown, however, it is by no means out of the question or not possible.

I don't see this as that big of a blow to Wii.
1. these games are being released for a decaying home console and a somewhat unpopular handheld: the PSP version shouldn't have too much affect on Wii, the PS2 version might have some effect, but I don't think it will be super-huge. 2. Wii will probably offer more games 3. Wii also offers games from several other consoles

4. These are probably just a collection of collections they've done in the past with special features and a few more games.

Here is the list of games that will be on it: Alex Kidd: The Enchanted Castle Altered Beast Bonanza Bros Columns Comix Zone Decap Attack Ecco the Dolphin Ecco: The Tides of Time Ecco Jr. Eternal Champions Flicky Gain Ground Golden Axe Golden Axe II Golden Axe III Phantasy Star II Phantasy Star III Phantasy Star IV Ristar Shadow Dancer: Secret of Shinobi Shinobi III Sonic The Hedgehog Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Super Thunderblade Sword of Vermillion Vectorman Vectorman 2 Virtua Fighter 2
I really don't see this effecting Nintendo in the lest. I mean its on the PSP and PS2 after all. And its only 28 games out of the Hundereds of games that came out for the Genesis, and this doesn't include the MasterSystem, 32X and SegaCD. And this isn't the first time the Playstation has got a Sega compilation disc. And really did anyone really think that the Sega games were going to be the thing that pushes the VC? I always figured it was all about Nintendo's games

A descent list of games...but definately not the greatest...though it gives us an idea of what Genesis games would be available to download on the VC. However, I must say that list really doesn't interest me too much. I count a total of around 6 games I want to play on that list.

What capabilities? A horrible control pad and short battery life? Burn.
If they start makign these old games widescreen it will defeat the purpose. Either Sega will need to reprogram them to make for a wider viewing area, or the images will be stretched. Boo.

Vudu: They could try to do a slight zoom in on the image...but that would screw up the experience as well.
I think you may see PSP with multiplayer via the net and whatever Sony calls their local connection.
But, basically Sega isn't getting the same bang for your buck with this as you would the virtual console...because effort must be made to create a solid emulation of each game...and add additional features into the PSP version.
