Women Prefer Plasma TV over Diamonds

Found this on Google News.  It's sort of interesting what this implies.

According to Reuters, the survey also found the following:

   * On average, women own 6.6 technology-driven devices while men have 6.9
   * 80 percent of women feel comfortable with new technologies
   * Nearly half of the 1,400 women surveyed perform their own computer trouble-shooting procedures
   * 77 percent of females queried would rather a new plasma TV than a diamond solitaire necklace
   * More than half of the female respondents would pick a plasma TV over a two-day vacation in Florida
   * 86 percent of the woman surveyed said they’d pick a new digital camera over a new pair of designer shoes

Haha, but what would those women prefer over a new plasma tv?

Hopefully a DLP tv.

SED TV from the future, at least thats what I want.  I just have to convince the wife because I'll need to start saving now.  Event though it's looking like this generation will be over by that time and the format war will had been won.

Diamonds are the past. Expensive tech is all the rave now, for both sides.

That SED TV sounds promising but I want a new TV soon, I was going for an EDTV PLASMA, but I'm still undecided because of these damn gaming warnings that either LG or Samsung have.

I love my CRT HDTV.  If it only had HDMI hook-ups and 720 and 1080p support it be perfect.  I haven't found a TV yet that has a better picture.  Seen plenty bigger and lighter but not a better picture can be found.  It's a couple years old now and I think picture on TV as a whole have gotten worse since I got it.  So I'm happy I did.  That's why I'm going to wait for this technology.  Because I'm spoiled and don't have a big living room.  Seriously enough you really need to look at the picture in person before you buy to see if you like it.  Big is one thing but you have to consider how you going to watch it.  Just take those things in account.

Ceric: How much did you get your CRT for? I've been looking into them, but I find cheap ones that only have 480i, and the ones that do support 480p are quite expensive.

What's your price limit on a 480p CRT?

I've mentioned it before, but the Toshiba "FST Pure Flat" CRTs are *very* nice. (they have "F" in the model number). There are units that cost between $200 - $400 for 20" up to 27".

Linkified

I had a 20" set and then graduated up to a 32" HD CRT about 2 years ago. Really nice picture quality on 'em, good universal remotes too.

I found the Canadian Toshiba site, and it looks like exactly what I wanted, thanks. I do have another question, though. If you take a look at that site and see the Flatscreen Direct View TVs, I am considering the ones between 24" and 27". Do you know why one of the 27" TVs is priced the same as the 26" one? And why does the other 27" one have an ever higher price? The 27AF46C doesn't look like it's widescreen, yet it says it does. Thanks again.

EDIT: I was also looking at Future Shop, and they have the 27AF46C model. However, on the specifications, it says it is only 480i compatible. Is this true?

I don't know if it's true or not but TV's like cars you need to see before buying.  I wouldn't just go and plop down money on a TV over the internet until I've went to the store and took a look.

I got mine for about $450 2 or so years ago.  It was originally 6something but I stacked a lot of discounts and price matching.  It's a 27".

You know the TV your looking at looks like my brothers.  It has a component input but it's your traditional 4:3 TV.  It will black bar when you put it in 16:9 mode.  I think it will do 480p on his.  As I mentioned before I find a place that has it and take a look at it.  If you still seriously want it ask if you could see the manual and it should tell you it's capacities.  I personally get one that would at least do 480p and 1080i.  That way you can benefit from an HDTV source, 720p is not as important because I always hear that 1080i looks better anyway and 1080p TV's are like buying a tuba or small car.  I think you would be more satisfied if you just spent the extra and stepped up into their HD-Ready category.  Though I can't stress enough the importance of going to see the TV in real life.

You might find one you like more or the picture might not be up to your expectations.

Edit:  Maybe something like this
It seems the models with the H in them are Toshibas HDTVs and the ones with the A or the traditonal analog.

Yikes! Good thing you caught that. I can't find the manual for the 27AF46C specifically, but all of the similarly modeled sets seem to be 480i limited.

The US lineup has more varity. I didn't consider possible international differences. That sucks. Sorry 'bout that.

Yeah, I did research upon finding out about this article and found out that MSNBC doesn't know WTF they're talking about.    I was really looking forward to an excuse to get another TV

"I got it for your birthday honey!"

Thanks Ceric, but that's a bit above my budget (max $500 CDN). I found the ones you were talking about, BigJim, but unfortunately, I'm stuck between the pricepoints again. The 480i ones are cheap, but I have to pay at least $550 for a CRT set which supports 480p. I was wondering, when you said they were from $200 - $400, I gather you were talking about the 480i ones? Because on the American site, the prices for the 480p ones are about the same as here; over $500.

Yeah I was talking about the 480i ones. I assumed the listed sets were like the one I had. My old 20" supported 480p but apparently the newer one that's listed doesn't (It was $300 at the time, compared to this model's $200, so maybe that's the difference). I didn't expect they would downgrade them. Now it seems like the only 480p units are the HD sets. Cheapest is the 26HF85 for $550 USD MSRP. My bad.

The price is steep but I'd recommend them to anybody that can afford it. Unlike Sony omgexpensivebutsucks. I think RCA makes some cheaper CRTs but I haven't looked at reviews.

I think I found your 20" set. Is it this one? It says it's 480p compatible. This is what I'm looking for, except perhaps a bit bigger. It's within my budget too. Hmm..

EDIT: Found a 27" one. This seems perfect. I'll just wait for your confirmation, Jim, but I think I found what I was looking for.

Now they're using computers?? This feminism crap has gone too far.

The product manuals on the Toshiba site say 480i on those too. D'oh! They don't have all manuals listed either. Frustrating.

Sansui makes good sets too. Mostly popular overseas. The HDTV2600 model is popular, and may just barely be in your price range if you find a deal. Google pulls up some $450ish USD. No personal experience with it, though.
