Title: Ubisoft has 7 Wii ones in the making. Midway has six of its own.
Post by: Kairon on August 01, 2006, 07:46:07 PM
From 1up.com:

Quote

Ubisoft North America President Laurent Detoc revealed that his company currently has seven titles in development for Nintendo's upcoming Wii platform.

...

On the same panel, Midway President David Zucker stated that his company has six titles in development for the Wii.

According to this {official?) pdf from May 2006 partially listing Wii games in development, Ubisoft had 3 known projects at that time: Red Steel, Open Season, and Rayman. Midway, according to that list, had only commited to Happy Feet and The Ant Bully by that time.

Ubisoft does puzzle pirates?  I want that on my Wii (of course I want the online version of it ).

I was going to pick-up Rampage: Total Destruction for the GameCube when it first came out until I read too many times that it has very poor controls. Visually, I thought the new 3D character models looked great. A nice upgrade that didn't change the overall look of the series too drastically. Now with the Wii version announced, is it me or do the character models look almost like "claymation"?

The art style, I think, works very well for the feel of this series.

Now if only they could do something with everything else in that screen shot. At least take the blur off of everything else and add an actual texture.

Speaking of claymation though, there should be a new version of Clay Fighter just for the Wii, I forget who made the game, and it wasn't all that great, but it was somewhat entertaining and looked good visually for the time.

Ubisoft's Seven Wii Launch Titles

It has another five - yes, five games planned for Wii, and they'll all arrive in time for the platform's launch window.

Ubisoft today announced that it is in development with versions of [n]Far Cry, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, Monster 4x4 World Circuit and Open Season for Wii[/n]. In addition, the studio is bringing an [n]all-new racer called GT Pro Series to the system.
The publisher also said that it has "many more titles in development" for Wii.

"Media and analysts agree that Ubisoft has the greatest potential for reward with the new console's launch because we believed in its potential from the beginning,"

The popular first-person shooter Far Cry pits players on a mission through lush Amazonian jungles and equips them with a variety of weapons, vehicles and special powers to attack the enemy. The game will make full use of the Wii-mote for enhanced maneuverability and will likewise boast new content.

Blazing Angels utilizes the Wii controller for intense dog fighting scenarios set to the backdrop of WWII.

The racer GT Pro Series is developed by MTO and optimized by Ubisoft for Wii. Through a deal with MTO, Ubisoft is able to distribute the project everywhere in the world except Japan. GT features more than 80 licensed cars, detailed tuning options, fluid drift-style controls and physics, and more. The title has been specifically tailored to make full use of the Wii's revolutionary remote.

In addition, IGN has posted new screens of Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, as well as first screens of Monster 4x4: World Circuit in our their related media sections.

With seven official launch window titles from Ubisoft, the ever-expanding library of holiday Wii games is nearing 30 titles, and there are still more to come.

Well there you have it Ubisoft has 7+++ titles coming to Wii but only 7 of them will make the launch window. If other Developers are this exstatic with the Wii then I don't think we will be seeing a drought this time around like we saw with N64, PS2, GC & NDS.

edit: Ubisoft just became my favorite 3rd party developer, I predict good things for them in the future

I'll bet one of the other games coming is Beyond Good & Evil 2

I would also bet on a Prince of Persia game in the works too along with Splinter Cell & Assassins Creed.

Ubisoft is doing nicely, but I'll never forgive them for breaking the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon franchises.

Interview with Laurence Detoc of Ubisoft
Quote

First, Far Cry Wii will include elements from Far Cry Insticts Evolution, in addition to a fresh storyline, new maps, characters and equipment. Second and even more importantly, Far Cry has strong diversity of gameplay so the game is a natural fit for the Wii remote.
Far Cry isn't a port, thats good news.

GT Pro Series is inspired by a Japanese game that was never released here and Ubisoft is optimizing for the Wii. It will have more than 80 licensed cars, tons of tuning options and its fluid drift-style controls and physics. Talk about how the Wii changes the way you play games, we're working to include an accessory in GT Pro Series that will make this game a must have. Stay tuned, literally.

An accessory for GT Pro? A steering wheel attachment maybe?

Mario brought up (jokingly) the possibility of a radio tuner...

Good sweet mother of all things coated in gravy. Ubisoft are even MORE awesome now! I like the sound of that racing game, except for the drifting part, I don't want another Ridge Racer.

Also Pale broke the page, someone report him to a mod.

Prince of Persia Wii has just been confirmed as a March 07 release.

This is absolutely insane.

I was just about to post that, whats funny though is that the Franch and English Press Releases are different

Open Season™, a game based on the popular Far Cry® franchise, Blazing Angels™ Squadrons of WW II and GT Pro Series, developed exclusively for the Wii by MTO. Ltd (please see today’s GT Pro Series announcement for more details).

With seven announced titles available at launch and with many more titles currently in development, Ubisoft expects to provide the richest third-party lineup for the Wii’s introduction and beyond with an exciting combination of new intellectual properties and established franchises.

I wonder if that little bit of info wasn't supposed to get out yet. And isn't the PoP trilogy completed already?

PoP... Trilogy... lol... PoP has been around for a very very long time.  I never beleived it would stop with just those three.  Hopefully they'll just start from scratch with a redesign.

They should make the Prince mad and angsty.

I don't think they've tried that before.

Dear Ubisoft, this poem is quoted in honor of you...

I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,—I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!—and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

P.S. Am I a Nintendo Fanboy? Hell yeah! Heck, I post poetry to thank third parties for their development support! What's more fanboyish than that?

This turn of events lets me dream of Banpresto coming out with a massive overhaul of Super Robot Wars: Scramble Commander for the Wii a little bit easier.

Shoot, just about anything is apparently possible from here on out at a daily pace!
