Title: Square Characters in Mario Hoops

Square will add some of its own characters to the upcoming DS sports title.

Did you think Mario sports games were only for Mario characters?  Not when Square is involved.  The official Japanese site for Mario Hoops revealed five new characters that come directly from the Final Fantasy universe.    Instead of going with specific characters from later games in the series, they opted to go with more generic jobs like those seen in the first game on the NES.

I'm sure many of you already know how much of a Final Fantasy fan I am. You may also know how much of a basketball fan I am. I'm obviously a Nintendo fan. I can't flipping wait for this game.

This news has increased my interest in this game quite a bit.  The art style is pretty different from anything else FF related I've seen.  Are there any screenshots that show them off yet?

I don't really care about Final Fantasy, but i'm sure this will increase interest in this game and that's a good thing.

When I first read this headline, my initial thought was, "They're finally following their bliss.  Cloud in short-shorts."  I'm relieved they're staying away from including the full pantheon of teen-angsty, melodramatic characters.  Kudos.

If you looked in that japanese nintendo site the character art for them is bad ass also theres a page 3 of characters so I wonder whats next enix characters? Geno? or what.

I didn't notice the other page before.  Looks like Bowser Jr.'s growing up.  His horns are starting to come in.

Man, the more I think about thsi game, the more I want Kingdom Hearts III to be Wii exclusive because Nintendo lands join the story line...

It's a basketball game so I won't get it no matter who they put in it, even though they look awesome, however my decision is still pending from a review.

These losers in the game will give me more motivation to get better at the game to destroy anyone who uses them on WiFi Connection.

Also, More New Characters speculated via screencaps of the Japanese commercial at Gonintendo.com.

Shyguy, Koopa Troopa, Boo, Dizie Kong and maybe even something else.

This game won't have WiFi.  It comes out in a week in japan and there is no sign of an emblem on the box art and no mention of it on the web site.

Wow, what's this game's development timeline, from announcement to release? It seems like it was developed really lightning fast.

Damn, I remember something about it having WiFi straight after first info was released. OH well guess i'll skip this.

What, no Ian comment on how Square's whoring out their mascots and it's all Nintendo's fault because of no HDTV support and a lack of GTA on Super Nintendo? What sort of insanity is this?

This is total BS.  I feel no shame.  The White Mage is super hot.  I'm also glad it's confirmed that the white mage is definitely a girl as it has been totally dominating my fantasies for years.
