Title: Favorite Web Comic
Post by: Artimus on June 17, 2006, 11:33:22 AM
I used to read more than I do now, but I'm curious what are your favs?

I used to enjoy Bob and George as well as 8-Bit theatre but stopped as they seem to be all out of fresh material. I read Penny Arcade occasionally. Usually I just stick to JoyStiq's web comic round up.

I think VG Cats is the best drawn strip on the web, though. The writing is poor but visually it's hilarious.

Enough polling, Artimus?

Polling? I think discussion qualifies as...discussion.

You're just sad you didn't know the web had comics, right?

Sinfest wins.

Schlock is good if you want a story.

I read B&G mostly for the hosted comics these days. Metroid: Third Derivative is nice, MS Paint Masterpieces rocks.

Normally, I tend to think videogame comics aren't good for much more than linking to in forum videogame debates. But, and I don't know why I've never read it, Bob & George actually looks good. I'll probably agree that it's past it's prime after I read through the whole comic, though.

As for my favorites, I'm a fan of Dinosaur comics, pokey the penguin, and (the finished but still well worth reading, if you're a LoTR fan) Waiting for Frodo.

If I can move away from teh funnies, I'm in love with 9th Elsewhere, a fantasy about a girl stuck in her own dreams. It's one of those things where you wonder why someone is putting so much effort into something they're offering for free online.

Oh, and then there's Broken Saints, if "animated comic epics" count. It's slow and complicated, but well worth the effort.

Aesir Corp - I like this one it's sort of serious but it took a while for it to be updated.
Ctrl+Alt+Del - They just recently started doing and animated version so I don't know if the comic itself will suffer.
Earthbound - I've never played the game but this is good.
Exterminatus Now - This is interesting...
Hamstapowah - Wow... It's got Hamsters... Mice... Rats... Demons... AND SNAILS!!! I mean come on you got to love it for the snails right right?
Applegeeks - Good when it's not serious and Hawk doesn't change his style from the original.
Least I Could Do - If you like Ctrl+Alt+Del then you'll like this and it updates everyday but Sunday.
Megatokyo - Nuff Said.
8-Bit Theater - "You know I was ruler of h*** once"
Penny Arcade - The quality has gone down recently but it's still shows the old days at some point.
RTPM - No I don't know what RTPM stands for but if you play FFXI then you might get a kick out of this.
Sorethumbs - This is just weird... Weird I tell you.
Joy of Tech - Nerds only please. If you don't follow Tech then this might not be funny.
Order of the Stick - This is an enjoyable DnD based comic.
VG Cats - Fun with games but it is adultish. This comic parodies games a lot.
Zap in Space - This comic has a story line and good art much like HamstaPowah

So those are my comics I keep track of. I've read them all through. I use IE7 so I can open my comics favorite group as a tab collection all at once. Though I'm sure theres a way to do it in Firefox and I know you can just save a Session with Opera.

I'll link them a little later.

and I know you can just save a Session with Opera.

Or you throw them all into the same bookmarks folder and select "open all in folder".

Oh and I haven't seen Sam & Fuzzy listed here yet.

I <3 the following:

- Penny Arcade: People say it's not as good as it used to be, but I don't see it. Hilarity three days a week.
- Ctrl + Alt + Del: I'm actually starting to dislike this comic. It used to be about a great laugh every strip, but now it's all about stretched-out story arcs. Very lame. Still, there is an occasional goody.
- PVP: See above, but to an even greater degree. I just don't see why people think Scott Kurtz is funny.
- Joe and Monkey: One of my latest additions, and it's quickly becoming one of my favorites. The art's a little wonky, but it's funny every day. Good stuff.
- Rob and Elliot: Another newbie. Not as good as JaM, but the art is way better, and it's still pretty funny.
- VG Cats: The schedule is out of whack, but it's usually pretty funny, so I like it.

Stage Select's hosted comic Downtime is something for Bill...
