Title: Matt's 360 bites the dust

Goto laugth at this. One of the reasons I have not bought a 360.

Do Any Xbox 360s Not Break?
Well, my good luck run has come to an abrupt end. Last night, I booted up my Xbox 360 only to encounter the Blinking Red Lights of Death, or BRLOD for short. I rebooted a couple times and was unsurprised to find that my system is more or less hosed.

I'm not going to waste a lot of time ranting about Microsoft's complete and total inability to release a hardware that actually works. But really, it is worth noting that more than half of the IGN editors who purchased an Xbox 360 had theirs break. What the hell does this say about the thousands of consumers out there?

Microsoft, way to reward the early adopters. What good does releasing early do you if half of the people who buy your system have to return it?

In the future, drop the Windows mentality. You can't fix your lackluster hardware with a downloadable patch.

The only system I ever owned that messed up was the original xbox, for some reason it wouldn't play Fable. (I also had a few controllers crap out too)
If anyone has a defect that really shouldn't be there I suggest doing the following:  (you might not approve but if I feel this is a problem that basically involved cheap manufacturing screwing me over I do this)

Buy a new system of whatever broke, change the stickers to your old system and then go back to the store and return your old system like it was the new one, problem solved.

8 months is a long time for any piece of hardware to last. From dust to dust. RIP.

Um I would hope 8 months isn't a long time, heck my N64 still works at it is 10 years old! When you pay 400$ for a system, it better last more than 8 months.

.....

I've had erections last longer than 8 months.

So logically speaking, I expect a system to outlast my erections.

If the 360 is this bad, I fear for Sony fans, I'm imagining exploding PS3's.

If your X-box 360 lasts for more than 8 months, stop use and see a doctor.

But, seriously. Hardware is getting worse and worse. N-intendo is still a lot better than the other guys, but my Game-Cube died around the same time my Atari 2600 did.

Once the 2600 died, your GCN lost all will to live, so sad

lol

Yeah, my first Gamecube died as well... had to get a replacement after only a year after getting it at launch. But, it has been the only Nintendo system I have had trouble with.

and my GC thus far only needed a laser tweak ^^

I don't think you're using the console the way it was originally intended.

I've always treated my video games and systems well, and only my SNES ever died on me.  That made me sad because the only replacements available were the ugly newer ones.  Even my lovely old NES still works flawlessly, without even the need to blow in the cartridges.

Now that I think about it, my family did go through more than one 2600.  There was one in the lake cabin that the extended family shared, and one at my grandparents' house that I guess must have been brought there after they replaced it at the cabin, because its power switch was faulty from as early as I can remember.  I had to flip it on and off dozens of times before it would work.  Maybe that's why I've treated all my consoles so gingerly.

Sorry about that.  Anyway, I wouldn't be too sure that hardware failures will hurt Microsoft much.  I thought for sure the PS2's reputation for failure would have hurt it in the market, but if anything it just led to more sales in the long run.

I've never had any consoles die. In fact, the only piece of hardware I can remember failing has been my poor old 4th gen 40 gig iPod. Actually, it wasn't even the hardware's fault. I downloaded the latest apple firmware and it killed it. Completely. I had it restored and working for about a day but then it just blew up. Of course, this was one month after the warranty expired. I didn't bother attempting to have it replaced. Even though thousands of other people had the same thing happen. Apple blows.

NEVER update your products if they work fine.

My NES is wearing down over time, but it's okay.  And I agree with cmoney, I hate updating software or hardware nowdays, because something always goes wrong with the new stuff and it wastes so much time.

Every system I own still works.  NES, Gameboy, N64, Gamecube, DS, all of it.

Here is a question:

Does Microsoft get credit in numbers of Xbox 360s in the market for those they have to replace under warranty?

Because if so they should have like what, double the actual number sold.

(j/k)

Yes and MS saw how effective that was.

OTOH game developers aren't stupid, when they research what games sell on what platform they would see low sales numbers compared to the userbase for a platform with inflated sales and decide that market isn't interested. Which is probably why the PSP isn't getting many games.
