Title: Netflixed Super Mario Bros.
Post by: SgtShiversBen on June 04, 2006, 08:16:44 AM
I just got the movie in from Netflix...

After watching it again, after 10 years, I actually liked it!  it made me laugh.

Am I bad person?

No.  It has a certain charm that only a bad movie can have.

Super Mario Bros. is an awesome movie when you stop thinking of it as an adaption of super mario bros. and start thinking of it as a dark sci-fi movie, for kids. I loved it as a kid, I love it now, and it probably started my love of cyberpunk.

Plus, the bob-omb was awesome.

the bob-omb was the best part of the movie. using the SNES SupeScope as a weird beam weapon in the movie was awesome. Toad as some hippy-punk guy singing protest songs about Koopa, and goombas being these giant boddied, little head....things.....not so awesome. the movie still rocked though, you just love to hate it

On the other hand, why aren't all the koopa kids in here?

... *Had never made the connection with Iggy Koopa until now* But what about Spike? Only thing that I can think of is the guy in the Wrecking Crew games:

I thought there was a Spike Koopa for some reason.  I guess I was wrong.

Watching this again and again, I'm liking more and more.  The fact that Big Bertha is this huge black woman makes sense because she gobbles you whole in the game.  Although, seeing Mario hit on her kind of traumatized me

I also thought that Bowser's [Koopa ] wench was named Wendy for a big.  I was having a fit that Bowser was porking a Koopa kid only to find out that her name was Lena.  BLECH.

I too sort of like this movie.  Always like the Yoshi scene, and Daisy is just hot.

Spike is the name of the ball-barfing enemies in SMB3, that's probably where they got that from.

I still haven't seen this movie, I can't bring myself to pay cash money to rent it, and I always miss it on TV.  I imagine it would be fun in a b-movie kind of way, like Wandering says, don't think of it as an adaptation of Super Mario Bros.

You should spend money, it's a great movie in Video Game terms, just like the Wizard.  Every video game enthusiast deserves to watch it when Nintendo was king.  Also, Daisy is hawt [as is Mario's girlfriend].  How can you NOT want to watch it?!

is that supposed to be Yoshi in the top pic?

I remember watching this movie when I was younger, I want to say 9 or 10 yrs old, but the movie came out in '93, so I was about 13 or so, but I don't remember anything that happened or what it looked like. Maybe I should netflix this one too, I enjoy a comically bad movie everyonce in a while.

yes.

And the fungus in the second picture is the king of the mushroom kingdom. (In spite of how he looks, he's a real fun guy!)

OOOH, another Nintendo reference!

I was reading Goosebumbs: The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb when the main protaganist is complaining about his cousin being able to beat him in Super Mario Land.  Well...although SML was made...he attributes it to the fact that he doesn't own a SUPER NINTENDO!

WTF!

edit: I suck

Because I was taking a crap and Big Brain Academy was too far so I was searching desperately throughout my room for a book I could read and forget.  Lo and behold that's what came up.  Such a terrible book but MY OH MY entertaining!
