Title: EBgames Wii listing
Post by: attackslug on May 22, 2006, 01:08:14 PM
EBgames has an online listing of Wii titles.  Interestingly, every single one is listed at 59.99.
My guess is that every listings' release date is speculation based on E3, but that price is unsettling.  hopefully they are just using the 60$ price point of the 360 and PS3 as a safe estimate (better to over than underestimate -- less irate customers that way).

Here's the best explaination: Ebgames is freakin' retarded. Nintendo already said first party games are not going be more than $50.

You left out the most interesting parts.

Duck Hunt
Platform: Wii
Publisher: Nintendo
Category: Shooters
ESRB Rating: Rating Pending

Pilotwings
Platform: Wii
Publisher: Nintendo
Category: Simulation
ESRB Rating: Rating Pending

Wii Music
Platform: Wii
Publisher: Nintendo
Category: Other
ESRB Rating: Rating Pending

Either these weren't really "tech demos" or EBgames is making some guesses.

EB did the same thing before the DS was out, every single game was listed as $40 despite most of them launching at $30-$35.

It is pretty obvious that the prices, release dates, and even announced titles for sale are based solely off news and info that has appeared in just about every gaming publication, speculation and otherwise.  reminds me of when the local EB had clipped out an EGM april fool's article about how the new Zelda would ship with a reworked "realistic" Wind Waker, and were promoting it in store as a pre-order promotional.

Well Carbon has only been announced for the PS3, but considering the history of the franchise spans everything from the Xbox to the GBC, I wouldn't be surprised if EVERY console from this and next gen get a version.

the sad thing about the prices is that sometimes Gamestop and EBGames, don't change the price like they are suppose to.  I had to cancel and order at gamestop once (Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes) when the price was announced as 39.99 and I emailed gamestop about it and was told that they can't change the price for my order that I would have to cancel and reorder.

I'll believe it when I see it. Until then I will keep on believing that 1st party Wii games will be priced at $59.99 because Nintendo will cite the controller technology as being why the games cost $60 (additional development costs to get the game working with the new controller).

If they are less than $60, it will be a pleasant surprise. Of course the smaller titles (ie: "Wii Sports"), shouldn't cost more than $20-$30, but we all know that companies (even Nintendo) can be greedy at times - especially where the prices of their software are concerned, so who knows?

The devkits for the Wii are incredibly cheap ($2000!!), most games "pick up and play" rather than 50+ hour epics, and the lack of HD assets all make the development of games far cheaper than on the 360 or PS3, possibly even cheaper than last generation.  Logically, this would translate to cheaper game prices.

Nintendo has been emphasizing cheap development for Wii for at least a year now, the games will be the same price as before. In fact, there will likely be a number of cheaper games, as attackslug is suggesting, because Nintendo wants to grab non gamers and non gamers are not going to pay $50 a pop for games.  Evidence: Brain Age.

Even THQ is spouting how cost effective making games for the Wii is. So I have doubt that it will be 60.00 at the begining of the Wii's lifecycle. But some third party companies may get greedy by the end.
