Title: Sega to have 7 games out for Wii by March 2007?
Post by: Kairon on May 22, 2006, 11:32:40 AM
Aussie-Nintendo.com reports that SegaSammy has reported their worldwide launch plns for Fiscal year 2006, ending March 31st 2007. According to the list, they will have released 7 Wii titles by that time, as well as 17 DS titles in that fiscal year.

For comparison, They are looking at 14 XBox 360 releases, 17 PS3 releases, and 29 PSP releases. But still, SEVEN Wii titles in the Wii's first 5-6 months of existence? Sweet!

The-magicbox is reporting this as wellunder their May 21 news.

Cool - that's a lot of support for Nintendo platforms there from Sega, even if it is spread a bit thin across four platforms. The Wii Sonic actually looked like it might not be total pants and Super Monkey Ball was one of my all time favourite games and I'm looking forward to the Wii version.

Sega kind of passed me by until the Gamecube because I've only ever had Nintendo consoles and a PC - what decent franchises from the Genesis + Dreamcast were actually Sega's as opposed to owned by their 2nd/3rd parties?

I'd rather see them abuse the VC concept of "new games for old hat" and release a 2-D Streets of Rage game so hardcore it causes spontaneous restless leg syndrome for the N64 and up in terms of platform.

Or go all out and make a uber spiffy one for the Wii with at least Hokuto No Ken the fighting game graphics throughout...

HotD would be cool

Shinobi, Alex Kidd, Phantasy Star Online, Puyo Pop

Sega's got mad franchises.

I'd love to see them bring back the likes of Alex Kidd and Wonderboy again. But they'd probably ruin them the same way they ruined Altered Beast and Shinobi when those got dug up for PS2.

I expect SEGA to strongly support the Wii; many of their arcadey style games are perfect for it. I think NiGHTS is almost a certainty, and I wouldn't be surprised if they got some light-gun games out. I would also love a Panzer Dragoon game..

whoa, 29 PSP vs 17 DS?

Sega is certanly betting for the wrong portable.....

and I'd love a VO game, so fitting for the remote...
and maybe Shenmue III? no way in hell, but one can hope

Sega's not exactly known for making the best decisions.

This basically confirms Wii gets less support of any current not-dead system or handheld. Thanks Sega!

Here's something to consider.
A lot of those PS3 and 360 titles might just be multi-platform versions of the exact same game.
While most if not all of the Wii titles are likely exclusives built around the new controller.
Sheer number of titles doesn't make a difference as much as exclusiveness and quality does.
We're getting an EXCLUSIVE Sonic title and an EXCLUSIVE Super Monkey Ball title.
Those are two of the few Sega franchises that actually sell.
The majority of those other titles spanning the several consoles and handhelds are likely just going to bomb anyway.

^ Wow, that's some great Nintendo spin. "We got all the good gamez guyz, LOL"

Anyway, Wii's gonna have to EARN Panzer Dragoon with strong launch sales, I think. Jet Grind Radio seems tuned for Wii, eh?

Exactly, look at the GCN: Sega gave us Billy Hatcher, a PSO Card Game, Monkey Ball, and a port of Sonic Adventure 2 as "exclusives"... Sega does not seem to care much for Nintendo, regardless of the fact that their non-sports games sell the best on the system. It would be foolish to assume that stuff like Panzer Dragoon has much of a chance of showing up on the system simply from their mentality in the past.

It's true that many of the games that the 360 and PS3 are getting are from 2K Games, and they don't really interest me (except NHL 2K), but I'd like to see SEGA giving more support, regardless of the games. Wait, didn't SEGA recently announce that they were porting a 2K sports game to the 'Cube? If so, then the Wii should be in line for more support, maybe even on par with the other consoles. And I would hope that they can innovate with the control scheme so that even their multiplatform games stand out and are better than the others. But that's wishful thinking..

"Yeah, they'll have to earn the funds for a shiny new moneyhat.."

Let's just be thankful that - unlike Microsoft - Nintendo isn't dumb enough to give them out in exchange for certain Sega titles that don't sell anyway.

It reminds me of how some countries pay their farmers not to grow certain unprofitable crops. Kinda defeats the purpose!

Sega loves pain.

Oh, right, Billy Hatcher. They're currently selling the PC version of that for 20 Euros.

Hell, even if those 7 games are exciting, I'll bet at least 3 of them will get cancelled or something. You guys are actually expecting cool games from Sega? They probably have Charolette's Web for Wii or some garbage like that. Their support for PSP over DS should give you a clue.

The last good Sega game I played was F-Zero.

Everything after that, with the possible exception of SMB2, was total, utter crap.

I have ZERO faith in Sega to create anything worthwhile. As a child, I worshiped Sonic like a god but now that Sega has seen it fit to whore him out to every goddamn console ever dreamt (even the ill-fated N-gage), he's basically dead to me. I bet there was a Sonic game in the planning stages for the Phantom.

Seriously, f*ck Sega. They have all the business know-how of a drunken hobo and I can't understand why Sammy would effectively buy a sinking ship.

You definitely sound like a fanboy that's been betrayed by his own gods...

Not that I blame you or anything. Sega HAS been sucking hard in the past couple of years.

You can only watch a company you love make so many idiotic mistakes before you have to stop caring.

It's like being in love with a drug addict: if they want to destroy themselves, there's nothing you can do but detach yourself from them emotionally because, in the end, you have no control over their actions.

Yeah, but of course sometimes it's your own unrealistic idolation that you get disillusioned from.

For example, people often claim the same thing to happen with Nintendo. But I've felt that that's because those people are expecting something from Nintendo that they shouldn't expect from Nintendo at all. Sorta like, if your girlfriend/boyfriend wants children and you don't, only bad things can come from wanting those things out of them, or blaming them for what is basically your inability to listen to what they're telling you...

ANYWAYS... I myself wasn't disappointed when Nintendo lost the market lead, I wasn't upset by higher N64 cart prices... the only time I've felt abused by Nintendo was when I felt that they sold-short and demeaned their potential by half-assing a game that I knew they really had it in them to do better. But as my understanding of Nintendo improves, I am less and less worried about them "shooting themselves in the foot," I don't care if they're perenially third-place, I'm actually willing to consider buying another system (whether I can afford it is another matter).

The only thing I expect from Nintendo is my Game and Watch e-cards.

I'm disapointed in you, Nintendo.

Well, if you're gonna nitpick.

But seriously, all the core gameplay benefits of e-cards AND MORE will be provided by the download service. The only thing we're really losing is the brick-and-mortar collectable trading card game aspect, and the "look at my full album" aspect, and the I-can-use-it-in-ten-years-as long-as-my-GBA, GC, AC game, E-reader work-and-my-cards-aren't-wrinkled aspect.

As much as I want to agree with the "zomg Sega sux" line, I just cant when Sonic Rush exists. Of course, after the game was well recieved they just HAD to screw people somehow, hence the absolute abortion that is Sonic Rivals PSP.
Title: RE:Sega to have 7 games out for Wii by March 2007?
Post by: Crimm on May 23, 2006, 05:37:34 PM
Sega doesn't "sux" they just have some serious problems.

They are too willing to let their product be dictated by current trends (Shadow the Hedgehog).
They aren't the best business-minded company (Constant Genesis add-ons, The pitiful launch of the Saturn).
Their current "transitional period" that has lasted for almost 5 years (poorly executed ports to third party systems).
Their design teams are constantly restructuring (the abolishment of 4 teams)
The loss of their product's "soul" (you could always tell a Sega game by its art style, but now they are becoming increasingly generic).
