Title: Animal Crossing Movie
Post by: wandering on May 12, 2006, 04:26:17 AM
No, seriously, like a CG film from nintendo.
...can someone shed some light on this crazy internet rumor?
Cause, if true, this is my dreams come true. No, seriously, if done right, it could be really cool. Or completely insane.
edit, apparently this is coming from here, which looks a little dubious to me. Maybe the image was especially convincing while it was still viewable or something.

i'd rather have a weekly "real world" type of show, just like the commercials. those were brilliant and i heard people talking about Animal Crossing curiously that i never thought would know that it was even a game.

I saw this in E3 week, is it really confirmed? some people have theorized that it might be publicity for the new game.

I liked Animal Crossing when it was only on Der Gamecube and nobody really knew about it. Now, everyone with a DS has got it. I don't even play Wild World anymore....it gives me a headache. It sucks that it's gonna be an anime now.

i wish the made a new cg mario movie, for only one reason. Aim it at kids..have dreamworks make it. Just for the amazing amount of marketing it would get

I thought I heard there would be an Animal Crossing cartoon.
Animal Crossing fits better in episodic narratives. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't see a movie based on a game about nothing in particular...nothing really epic could happen.
But a cartoon, with a few main characters (maybe a boy, a girl, Tom Nook, the Abel sisters, Pelly, Phyllis, Booker, Copper...you know, the townsfolk in EVERY game...not to mention visitors, and any from the whole slew of 200+ animal neighbours) and silly little narratives about holidays, fishing/bug-catching tournaments, etc...
It might work fairly decently, actually. And probably sell more of any iteration of Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing the movie:
Great videogame adaptation, or greatest videogame adaptation?

Since this thread was given a massive bump...
I saw the movie months ago and I loved it. Its one of those rare videogame movies which stays very true to the original game but is also its own movie. In other words, anyone can enjoy this film, whether they'd be long time Animal Crossing fans or just casual anime fans.
The movie does make you wish Nintendo would develop AC further. In the movie there are events that lead to an amazing discovery or is all part of a massive puzzle, one that yields an impressive reward. It would be awesome if events like those happened in real time in the AC games.
The characters were also well developed and likable, just like their videogame counterparts. The music's also great.
My favorite part would have to be the last half of the movie. Without spoiling anything, its simply magical.
Overall, it was a great movie.

Except the characters are actually enjoying their pre-made existence and it doesn't deal with the concept of reality and existence :p .
This is off topic but I thought about this a few days ago. The Matrix made a big deal about how the world we live in could be a complete fabrication and that an alternate reality lies beyond what we see, when in fact the concept has been tackled before. The Truman Show is one of them.

The concept was tackled thousands of years ago.

I know, but the only recent thing I could come up with was "The Truman Show".

I think, therefore I am...
Just one of the many philosophers that talked about the relative state of existence.

Just in film, there's The 13th Floor and eXistenZ, both released the same year as The Matrix.

Don't get me started on Descartes. He did a great job of tearing down his belief system but a pretty piss poor job of rebuilding it.

A potential animal crossing movie is similar to The Truman Show because it's a third-party controlled ecosystem with people and life, and the actions we do (those watching/voting) can affect what happens inside.
