Title: Rumor says EGM says Wiimote has speaker
Post by: nemo_83 on May 08, 2006, 06:23:01 PM
This hasn't been confirmed, in fact, I think it's bull cause the rumor also says Zelda TP doesn't use the remote for sword control, but the new Time article said the remote is used for sword control.

Go to gamefaqs.

I didn't post it when it first hit cause I thought it was false.  Actually, I still believe Zelda will use the remote for sword control.

Apparently MP3 will come out early 07.

I saw them on an imageboard with a video game folder.
That gives you something to work with.

FWIW.  Sword control in TP will likely be something akin to the Link vs. Goron fight.  Set encounters.

oh I found them but are unreadable T_T I like the slight touches of toon shading here and there to improve the graphics, the only thing keeping this game from being perfect is the wii controls.

Like I said in the other thread, you can't read anything but the headers.
That makes the internet quote all the more tantalizing.

It makes sense for the game to have optional Wii controls.
I mean it obviously has to have a traditional control scheme to be GCN compatible.
Additionally, the game wasn't designed with the Wii-mote in mind so I doubt it will be nearly as intuitive as in a game like Red Steel. Also unlike Red Steel which will likely use the sword-play sparingly, Zelda has very hack-n-slash style swordplay. Even my thumb has gotten exhausted pushing the button in some drawn out sword fights in Zelda titles over the years. Obviously full-on arm motions would not be an improvement in that regard and, for that matter, it could look sort of "wrong". The name is getting enough jokes as is.

I imagine a Zelda title built with the Wii-mote in mind will be very different than what we're used to in the series.
Instead of mercilessly hacking at enemies, it will be much more skill-based with an emphasis on using the sword to block attacks and executing a few well place stabs at "weak" spots which would be a huge improvement IMO.  Zelda is supposed to be a thinking game but the sword fighting has moslty just been dumb button mashing.

As for the speaker. Not something I would have thought of but it does make sense. In fact its brilliant.
It will basically allow for 3D sound effects. Like when you hit a tennis ball in the tennis title you'll actually hear the smack right in the spot you virtually hit it. It will be much more immersive.
Or like in Nintendogs Wii you'll hear your puppy growling right in front of you as he bites his teeth into your virtual chew toy.
I still hope and expect a rumble feature though. I mean this is nice as an addition but not an alternative.

i thought the rumble was a given. just cuz sony can't hang doesn't mean ninty will cave, too.

though if it really affects battery life, they might as well limit the RRRRRrumble

You know, my first thought when I heard this was "no way would I have thought of that."  My second was "this is going to be really immersive."

I'm looking forward to wielding a handgun and hearing the shot come out from where the gun would be, my hand.

I just hope the speaker is a good quality one.  The speakers on their portables leave something to be desired, so I always preferred headphones when I played DS.

I was thinking the same. If it sounds like one of those speakers you find in a toy lightsaber, they just shouldn't bother.

2 other problems that I see, as well: how do you adjust the volume? Will you have to constanstly keep the sound in sinc with your TV manually? And the second: wouldn't it seem weird to have sounds coming from the speaker when what you are viewing is on the tv screen? Imagine playing tennis, and seeing your character hitting the ball in front of you, but hearing the sound coming from beside you (edit: maybe if the display was 3d...)

Concerns aside, this is something I've really been hoping for. It definitely could be very cool.

Unless there are virtual reality goggles to go with it.  Remember, a traditional tv setup wouldn't be needed for the rev?

mode red was always talking about speakers in the controller

this may or may not be the final big secret though...

it has been brought up, why would Nintendo entrust this information to a mag if it were their last bullet

"What about the audio speaker built in to the Revolution controller - how will Twilight Princess use that?" - clear as day in the scan I saw.

Seems like a pretty awesome little thing, but by no means is this the big secret. If it is I will be kind of let down. I'm expecting something that will blow us all away... again.

where the heck will the speaker(s) be though? given the size of the Wiimote, it will be pretty damned hard to throw a speaker on there that doesn't get covered up by your hand
