What's this?  Donkey Kong, mystery developers, and Britney Spears?  A must-read article filled with need-to-know information!

Billy just called in from Las Vegas with an update on the D.I.C.E. Roundtable, which included Shigeru Miyamoto. We managed to wring out some interesting information from the legend for you, so check out the highlights:

Those were the highlights of the 45-minute roundtable.  Look for the full transcript this weekend!

"When asked about online plans for this year, Miyamoto responded in a way that made it seem like it wasn't to be this year."

I don't like the way that sounds.  Online plans should have been in place last year.  A year from now is way too late.  Network games are cool and all but are a really lame replacement for online.  BOTH types of games should be available.

"Kirby's Air Ride is being developed by HAL, which is no big surprise. The game is a fast-paced racing game in the same vein as Mario Kart, with power-ups, booster arrows, shortcuts."

If it's like Mario Kart it seems like kind of a useless title to make, particularly when the "real" Mario Kart isn't even out yet.  Maybe they're greatly changing the Mario Kart design and Kirby is designed to be the more traditional title.

    * Finally, it just so happened that Britney Spears was in London at about the same time as Miyamoto was last week. People have been saying that more people showed up to see Miyamoto than Spears, which should come as no surprise to any of us.

That's because our cojones don't shrink when we say we're gamers! Looks like the UK is getting "Shiggy with it"

* A new Donkey Kong game was mentioned, with no hint of a specific developer. No comment was made about it showing up this year's E3.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that they're going to have to start from scratch. Can Nintendo use Diddy Kong, Dixie, Funky, Cranky and the rest of the gang?Or are they Rare's apes?

As far as Online plans, talk about stubborn! Turning your Game Cube into  a LAN sounds nice (Might be a lot easier than the XboX) but will that entice gamers as much as playing online? Wonder what else devolopers will do with GBA-GC connectivity?

I would like to point out that despite what you might read ANYWHERE else, when Miyamoto was talking about networkable games he in NO WAY mentioned anything about wireless networking, nor did he even hint at it.  How do we know?  BILLY was the one that asked Miyamoto the question.

Looks like I need to grab a couple BB Adaptors, and stuff.

It'd be really great to have some 8-16 player Nintendo action!

Lol, that's funny!

Wario World is being co-produced by one of Nintendo's internal developers and an unknown second party that Nintendo has worked with before. Thereafter, the Nintendo folk dodged any other questions about the game.

Here's my question, wasn't it already said that Treasure was working on Wario World? If they are working on it wouldn't that mean Treasure is a 2nd party? Was the whole, Treasure working on Wario World just bad info?

Treasure is making Wario World. I think that Miyamoto has a different meaning for second party. I think that he meant working close with Treasure. Sin & Punishment was developed by Nintendo R&D1 & Treasure.

According to Nintendo, 70-80% of all GameCube games released during the rest of this year will offer some sort of GBA connectivity. This isn't just first- and second-party games; it goes for third-party games as well.

Wow. That is a lot of games that will support GCN-GBA connections. I expect most of Ubi Soft and EA games will use the link cable. It seems that all Nintendo games will use the link cable is some form.

This makes getting a GBA seem like the complete right thing to do.

Actually, that was a little bit of a miscommunication from the phone call we made afterwards.  It actually seemed quite different to me, and I altered the article to reflect that.

I also want to apologize for the third-party GC-GBA miscommunication.  Miyamoto was only talking about their titles when he gave that figure.

It wouldn't make much of a difference for me if Nintendo doesn't come out with online this year. They should work on their plan and perfect it. It's better than rushing something out. If they can make some good strides with the LAN games and connection games this year it should go a long way.

If Lan games do come out this year, people will find away to piggy back em on the Net, people did this with Halo.

Cool! There is a slight difference between the US and Japanese versions of Zelda (after checking the spoilers).

This not only warrents the long wait, it makes it feel a bit more unique now to own an import version of game.

I think Treasure could possibly be a second party now.  I mean, the only game I've seen them make for another system(that I can remember of recently) was Ikaruga for DC and that was ported(with enhancements) to the cube.  They also denied the rumor that they were porting it to PS2 as well.  Here's hoping.

I would find all this Treasure speculation much more believable if Konami hadn't just announced that Treasure is helping them in the creation of Gradius V for the Playstation 2.  There is no way that a recently inked true Nintendo 2nd-party would be helping in the development of a Playstation 2 title.  I'm inclined to agree with Mingnesium's hypothesis that 2nd party in this case just means a close development partner.  Although, one wonders why Miyamoto won't/can't reveal who the developer is.  I'm really intrigued by all the smoke and mirrors surrounding Wario World's development.  Who is the clandestine development partner and why are they clandestine in the first place?  If Treasure isn't the former "second-party" in question, my dark horse candidate is Hudson.

As for the other news, I wonder how increased HAL's resources are.  They are definitely developing two GCN games right now (Kirby's Air Ride & mystery game), and I think there might be an outside chance at three.  I'm hoping one of them turns out to be Earthbound GC.
