Title: Interview Preview: Yamauchi=Godfather, Iwata=C3PO
Post by: Jonnyboy117 on April 04, 2006, 05:49:53 PM
I had a great phone interview with Henk Rogers today, mostly about Tetris DS and the general state of Tetris, and you can bet that we talked plenty about infinite spin (which he calls "super rotation") and loads of other stuff. I even have a quote on the future of Faceball. But the interview ended with a great question submitted by TYP, asking Henk to contrast Hiroshi Yamauchi and Satoru Iwata. We thought it would be interesting to ask, since Henk is well known as the only Westerner to play Go against Yamauchi, and the first Westerner to become a Nintendo licensee in the 80s.
The full interview will be transcribed and posted soon, hopefully on Wednesday.
By the way, the Russian phrase I say near the end is "spacibo bolshoyeh" which means "thank you very much". I threw that in there since I'm pretty sure he speaks Russian, but I didn't ask outright, and he didn't reply...

Smooth move, Exlax. Looking forward to reading the interview. And Iwata/C3PO chopping.

I heard the funniest story ever about laxatives the other day. Seriously, it puts every slapstick comedy I've ever seen to shame, and it really happened.

Thanks. I've looped the part where you say "My Staff". It's hot.
Seriously, I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the interview.

Hrm, it's more like a funny misquote. The point was that they couldn't be compared.

I see Iwata as kind of the "End Boss" for a really long RPG. He is incredibly polite, and avoids confrontation, all while sending his minions out to do the violence and such. But, when the heroes finally have him cornered, he breaks out his 8th dan black belt and decapitates the protagonist's love interest with his bare hands.
Yamauchi is the secret boss that you need to be level 80 just to put up a fight with.
