Title: If at First You Don't Succeed...

Try and launch again.

The Xbox 360 is to be relaunched in Japan in late June in response to weak sales of the console, according to a report today which cites sources at Japanese wholesalers and indicates that an announcement of the relaunch could come next week.

It's from March 31, not April 1, so it's not an April Fools gag.

Though it's far funnier than any April Fools gag ever.

I imagine the system will be retooled to feature a smaller, quieter form factor, lower price point, and motion-sensing controller.

What, so I should cancel my reservations for the maiden voyage of the Titanic II?

Anybody want to buy my tickets for the Challenger X the 2nd attempt, I wanted to tour space but now it hardly sounds worth it.

What the heck is the point of a "relaunch"?

I mean, i know they're just trying to drum up sales, but does it actually involve doing anything?

Nintendo could just release a new DS Lite colour on that day and the Xbox section in every store wouldn't even get a glance.

They're basically trying to force popularity. People aren't buying it by their own free will, so Microsoft are going to start shoving it down peoples throats.

That's it!  Free DS Lite with every XBox 360 Purchase!

More like MS giving away Xbox360 to anyone willing to visit an Xbox store.

Xbox 360 + free DSL for $300
or
DSL x2 for <$300.....

I think they would choose 2 DS Lites and spend the saved money on games that they would rather play

Considering people are paying $300 for DSL's *now*, getting a MY OFFER IS INVALID, LIKE MYSELF. with it can't be too bad of a deal...

You never know. People in the front of the mob might see it right before they trample it to get to the DSLites.

I applaud Microsoft for giving it their all in adverse conditions. They're a lot like General Custer in that way.

But how? What does the relaunch mean in practice? Are they going to lower the price?

The "relaunch" they did at Circuit City awhile back, where CC stockpiled a bunch of 360's and then put them out on the shelf that one day... that makes sense... the relaunch means "oh, I couldn't buy it before because everyplace was sold out, now this place has several".

There's nothing like that in Japan, everyone who wants one can get one, and the fact of the matter is, damned few people want one. So now they're going to do what?

MS is probably cursing the fact that you can't fit a 360 into a DS Lite box.

Wait... if MS looses money on each 360 sold, then not selling them is the way to go.

I just don't get it. What's Microsoft Japan thinking?

June 29th is fingered as the date of the relaunch, which coincides with the changed release date for a number of major titles - Sega's Chrome Hounds, Idea Factory's Spectral Force 3: Innocent Rage, AQ Interactive's Bullet Witch, and Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

Why not wait for Blue Dragon/Lost Odessy for a re-launch? I highly doubt a title like Chrome Hounds is going to make the 360's fly off the shelves. They really have to work on their timing...

This relaunch is pointless without some sort of top notch Traditional RPG supplimented by other top notch Eastern culture centric games. The 360's problem is that is has too many Western centric titles. Its like launching a system in the States with no sports or FPS titles.

Naw the exclusive japanese RPG games are still way of last i heard
I doubt this relaunch will happen this early, as stated by someone above

How can you compare MS to G. Custer?  Custer was brass and cocky and thought he was better than the enemy of his day and... nevermind.
