So, from reading this article, it sounds as if some stuff will be released on BRD only some some stuff will be released on HDDVD only...  Which makes me wonder, back in the day, was there stuff released on Betamax that wasn't on VHS or visa-versa?

In a survey more than half of HDTV owners stated that they are not watching a HD signal. Many people don't even realize that HDTVs require HD data to use hires output, they switch from some ancient blurry TV to a HDTV and despite resolution difference problems (non-native resolution, of course the HDTV makers didn't think the resolutions should be integer multiples of each other...) and stretching 4:3 data to 16:9 they think it's so much prettier simply because of a sharper image and the oversaturated colors of modern display devices.

well I for one will make a stand and stick with DVD for a while because I still dont have all my VHS movies switched over to DVD yet so I sure as hell am not about to switch form DVD to anything else for at least another ten years.

acr: Makes little sense. If you start grabbing HD movies as early as possible that means you have less to rebuy should you decide to rebuy your DVDs as HD discs.

But what if he never decides to buy HD discs, and why just jump on the bandwagon as early as possible when you will be paying the early adopter prices? By all accounts, its better to get into a format later than sooner, unless you are a fan of non-main stream stuff that will go out of print.

Personally, I will also be skipping the HD generation unless regular DVDs are forced out of the market. HD DVDs do look to have a sizeable edge over regular DVDs, but the improvement is arguably even less than it was from VHS to LD, and it's not enough to make me rush out for this format like DVDs did back in 1998.

I'll stay with my current strategy of only renting or watching in a cinema, DVDs are only an option when they're on sale for less than those two options. HD media is more interesting for the PC to me, you can never have enough space per disc.

well see I didnt even get dvd player until 2002 so I have along weays to go towards filling up my DVD collections, I wont be forced to by HD anything, if not enough peopel buy it they will have to drop it. HD isnt goiong to be so big for a long time still so this HD DVD thing is premature. Its just a scam to force peopel to buy new Tvs, and they sopmehow managed to con our government to agreeing with them by pssing that recent law (which has befeits but I dont like thier justifications)

I was still pretty young back in the VHS Beta Max days BUT I do rememebr having friend swith on or the other and it wa worse than Nintendo vs sega, xbox vs playstaion arguments because it was about movies and people are more into movies than video games period. It sucked not being able to goto this guys house and bring my tapes over that we would wacth at that guys house. Now if they make aunioversal bluray-hd-dvd-cd-mp3, player I will get that and then not be limited on what I buy, but I can say that most studios will continue to supprot DVD along side HD or blu ray so I wont have a need to upgrade for a while.

I read that list and the studios supporting each is so split theres no reason to chose one over the other for at least five years cuz you will have to see which one has more movies that interest you. Also I am not a very big movie person in the first place so I dont buy a lot anyways. And DVDs are just now getting cheap enough for me to buy the ones I want, I am a cheap person I dont pay top dollar for anything and Im not even poor I just dont over pay for nothin.
