Title: Question about Gameboy Player...
Post by: BigDXLT on February 25, 2003, 02:37:14 PM
Okay. I want Metroid Fusion, like nobodies business. But I don't want a GBA. Cuz it's too damn small. But a GBA player would be nice. So... could I unlock all the bonus crap in Metroid Prime via the Gb player?

Yes, get a friend with a gameboy and use it.

taco, why would he need a gameboy if he had the gameboy player?
seems if made right they would make it work with justthe player.

Well, for the bonuses (or boni, I guess) you would need to have both the GameBoy Advance and GCN both have to be on. Therefore, unless, I am mistaken, to get the bonuses with the GB player wouldn't be possible, just because of hardware problems, unless you had two GameCubes (I may be wrong about this, if I am, feel free to correct me).

From what I hear you will need two Gamecube units if you want to do it this way. Because the game is made to only accept the unlock data from the controller port and not the high speed port. (Not to mention that it may not be able to run the Gamecube for playing purposes and the player at the same time.)

I meant get a GBA from a friend plus a link cable and do it that way. There are so many simple solutions to all your simple problems.

The GameBoy Player basically turns your GameCube into a GBA. In the future, it might be able to be used to provide an alternative method of GBA/GCN connectivity, but for now, and for games like Metroid Prime and Fusion that have already been made, you still need a GameCube, a GBA, and a link cable.
For your situation, this is probably the best solution:
Get a GameBoy Player.
Play Metroid Fusion on the TV to your hearts content.
Beat Metroid Fusion.
Get your hands on a GameBoy Advance and a link cable.
Put Fusion into the GBA, and Prime into the GameCube.
Spend about 2 seconds worrying that you're not getting the light just perfect to see the menus on the GBA screen perfectly.
Unlock stuff.
Give the GBA back to your friend, or put it back in the closet, or whatever.
Play around with bonus stuff in Prime, or put Fusion back into your Cube and play it more.

With the GBA Player, can you link it up with other GBA's? (like 2-4 player co-op stuff).
And, will the GBA player be able to do anything that the regular GBA, or GBA SP can't do, like since its connected to the GC, will it be able to go online with a modem adapter, and the regular GBA and SP not?
I want to get the one with the most features. I already have a GBA, and my brother wants one now. (and shouldn't this be in the Gameboy Advance area?)

Yes. The Player turns your GameCube into a fully-functional GameBoy Advance. It has a link port. It can use the e-reader. All that stuff. Although there are a few things that obviously won't work right. Like games like Kirby Tilt and Tumble might be a bit difficult to play. And games with built-in rumble might suffer too. But basically it just makes your GameCube and TV into an overweight GameBoy Advance.
Quote And, will the GBA player be able to do anything that the regular GBA, or GBA SP can't do, like since its connected to the GC, will it be able to go online with a modem adapter, and the regular GBA and SP not?
Nintendo might be able to work out some sort of alternate GBA/GCN connection for people who don't have the link cable, but they most likey won't give it extra features that make the GBA look bad.
Quote (and shouldn't this be in the Gameboy Advance area?)
The Player is a cross-breed. An outcast. It has no home in either world, so it sleeps under bridges.

<sigh> oh well, thanks guys. See, the problem with most of the suggestions? I don't have any friends! err.. uhh with GBA's that is. Well, that's a lie, but the friends I do have with them are about a 1000 miles away. And if I am to buy a GBA, it'd be the SP cuz I don't have enough light in my apartment for book much less a gba... ahh well...
Thanks anyways dudes!

Anyone know how much the GBA player will cost?
And think that the $100 dollar SP will go down in price soon, cuz the regualar GBA is only $60, and $40 seems like a lot of money just for a built in light....

i just want the player for the better sound in Fusion, i heard it has the best handheld score ever, but the GBA can only play so well. Sigh, and i dont know anyone with headphones, nor can i afford any, plus it make the GB player a bigger hype for me.

Quote The Game Boy Player accommodates several novel forms of game play. With the Game Boy or Game Boy Advance game cartridge inserted in the Game Boy Player, a regular Nintendo GameCube controller or WaveBird wireless controller can direct the action. Or, using the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance link cable (sold separately), the Game Boy Advance becomes the controller. The Game Boy Player also supports multiplayer action via Game Boy Advance Link Cables. Player one sees the action on the TV screen while other players view the screens on their linked Game Boy Advance systems.
Also, if you look at the screenshots, right above the slot where the game goes in is another port. That port is for the GBA/GC cable. You should just need the cable, and simply plug the player into the gamecube through the controller ports. So you can do everything you can with a GBA -- they're the same. Except you need a controller and the ability to plug it into the wall, and a telly.
So if you don't want a GBA, just get the player. It has all the same features and hookups, without the portability.
And it will sell for $39.99.

And after you do this how the hell do you turn on your Gamecube and GB Player at the same time? The console is only going to work as one or the other.
