Title: Activision Developing Revolution Game
Post by: WindyMan on February 06, 2006, 04:06:53 PM
Just one game, but it should be ready within the first months of the system's existence.

Activision released its quarterly fiscal results earlier today, announcing that they were the #2 independent publisher for the past three months, thanks to games like Gun and Call of Duty 2.

During the accompanying conference call, CEO Robert Kotick talked about the company's plans for the next-gen.  Along with games for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Activision mentioned that they have one Revolution title in development, and it will be released before March 2007, the end of their next fiscal year.

There was no mention of what that Revolution game might be, but with Activision's stable of franchises it could be anything from Tony Hawk to something entirely new.

This is a little disappointing.  One game?  This is Activision.  They're like Ubisoft and EA.  Getting support from them basically involves nothing more than releasing game hardware of some sort.  It's not that encouraging if they're only working on one game.  That suggests they're not interested because even neutral interest would result in several titles.  I figure it's Tony Hawk.  If Activision is going to release one game on any system it's that one.  Plus the Rev HAS to have Tony Hawk.  To not even have that franchise would be so damaging it would practically guarentee the Rev's failure.  That would be like not having Madden.

it'll be a weak port of something from the other systems with a revo only mini game thrown in there just so they can say it uses the new controller.

Woah, I usually try not to be cynical about your posts Ian, but that's the most "Ian" post I've seen in a while.  Who even cares about Tony Hawk anymore?  I think Nintendo could do just fine without Hawk, or Activision.

Of course I won't act like one game is good news, I just don't consider Activision to be that important.  More important is getting some key third parties like Capcom, Square Enix, and even (ick) EA to make some quality exclusive games, or games that take advantage of the controller so much that even if they're multi-platform, they're practically "exclusive".  Even more important is Nintendo itself proving the system concept.  Look at what Super Mario 64 and Nintendogs did for their respective systems.

"Who even cares about Tony Hawk anymore?"

I figure someone must since they keep making them.  It's more of an image thing.  EVERYONE gets Tony Hawk, even the N-Gage.  If a game system doesn't have that franchise then it suggests there's something REALLY wrong with it.  Even if there is nothing wrong with it "it doesn't even have Tony Hawk" is a pretty big deal.

im sure ppl wont even notice it, tony hawk nowadays seems like a given for every system but it isnt a must have or a system seller, i mean yes there are people who would buy it but its not a very important franchise, the series hasnt really improved that much since......well the first one on ps1 and n64.  So could you really imagine someone saying "im gonna get a revolution" and someone else saying "dude it doesn't have tony hawk" and then the other guy saying "hey yearh your right, i might as well get an ngage they have tony hawk!".

Seriously i would laugh when someone tries to win an arguement by saying "dude it doesn't have Tony hawk game".
