Title: Jim Merrick to Return to Nintendo of America
Post by: StrikerObi on December 06, 2005, 06:29:41 AM
Nintendo of Europe's senior marketing director comes home.

Gamasutra has learned that recent rumors of Nintendo of Europe senior marketing director Jim Merrick will be return of Nintendo of America after a three year stint across the pond. Merrick was on a three year contract with Nintendo of Europe and is returning primality for family reasons. Merrick's new position at Nintendo of America is as of yet unknown. The same goes for his soon to be announced replacement at Nintendo of Europe.

While at Nintendo of Europe, Merrick oversaw the launch of the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Micro.

The first two sentences in the first paragraph are so hard to read.

It makes my brain feel as if it were educated by the public school system. Which it was, somewhat. But, uhh, as for the article's subject... NoE isn't the most popular subsidiary of NCL. Is this a motivation for his returning? If his only hallmark for his tenure at NoE is the two hardware launches, it seems he had a fairly positive effect over there. Any Europeans's's have opions on the matter? Why did he leave NoA in the first place, anyway?

President of NOA!

We haven't had one of those since Minoru Arakawa and Howard Lincoln left, have we?

Yes, the current NOA president clearly does not like the spotlight.

He should just "technically" promote someone like Jim Merrick to the position of President, and then continue running the show from behind-the-scenes without a title of his own. In that way, he will become feared, and everyone wins.

So this outspoken big-wig is coming to back to the USA, eh? He he seemed to be the most vocal voice in Europe, almost like .

Though he could be put to better use in the land down under. NAL needs some some of compenent marketing last I heard from our dwindling Aussie posters... But it can't be helped, the family comes first.

I'm OK with this, I guess. I hope he wasn't forced to go back to reign him in and get him to stop talking; it doesn't sound like that anyways. Props to the man.

"they bitch slapped ncl around..and i was happier. "

You speak as though NOA never puts up a fight.  Just because they couldn't convince Nintendo to make a powerfuls ystem?  Hah.  The head folks at NOA don't just sit on their thumbs--you just don't hear about their small victories.

While I read this, I had a thought of Jim Davis being employed by Nintendo, and then holding meetings where he would show everyone his latest Garfield comic.

"In this one, Garfield kicks Odie off the table. Again!"
"Oh you've still got it, sir!" they'd reply, gritting their teeth.
