PIAC, I got caught up that Nintendo was for kids and there were no good games on it. Now I see that the whole time that info was incorrect. Not to mention I had a fun time playin' Cube over at my cousin's house. He had some Star Wars games, and I stayed there for a good 6 hours and play them all. That's mainly when I knew Cube wasn't a bad console.

also very good are Resident Evil, Super Smash Brothers, Super Mario Sunshine and some others
but the best is still to come, 2003 is an incredible year for the GCN, and I mean, INCREDIBLE

And on top of the mandatory Live fee, you need a $9/mo hunter's license in order to play PSO. Expect other 3rd party games like that to have fees, too, on top of the upcoming live fee.

if you rent it, make sure you give it a lot of time to try. it really gets a lot better once you get sucked into the story and get to experience some of the insanity effects. i think you'll like this game, i had my doubts about it but its one of my favourite games. genius storyline

I plan to give every game atleast a week of play time. I don't want to play the game for 5 minutes, hate it, and never play it again, when it takes a good amount of play time to get used to the game.

He already has Xbox Live, meaning he doesn't have a fee to pay until November. Plus the Xbox version is $10 cheaper, and you get an additional month free. Also with the Gamecube version, he would need a BBA, and a keyboard to truly enjoy it. It's much cheaper for him to get the Xbox version.

Also, another one that not a lot of people have recomended is Animal Crossing. I know AC 2 is coming up, but one is still a seminal game, and a lot of fun.
Also, if you love Resident Evil, you must have the remakes.
Eternal Darkness and Metroid Prime are must-buys if you have a cube, as is Zelda TWW.

well personally i didnt like the "Fludd" (water gun). to me it was just a cheap gimick that was fun for about 5 minutes. also with mario 64 you had a tonne of variety in the levels, from winter, to under water, to lava, to desert, etc. etc.. in mario sunshine it's all set in a stupid tropical island with all these stupid people around selling fruit. everything was just so kiddish. the graphics are not up to par imo. mario 64 set the bar for what n64 games should loook like, mario sunshine simply does not do the same for cube.

Excactly, although it wasnt a bad game, just not what many expected. The FLUDD device made it too easy at some parts, the hovering just wasnt MARIOish. In Mario64 you had to be a very skilled jumper to get plattforms, this time you could correct any mistake you made.
Although there were some stages without the FLUDD (which were really great fun) but not enough. The story, the setting, the gameplay didnt feel MARIO enough. The levels were too sunny and partly quite similar. And what pissed me off most was the fact that there was NO LONGJUMP AND PUNCHES! One might argue that punches arent MARIO but for me they are because Mario 64 was my most played game.
So basically, definetely a very good game, but not good enough to forfill many of our desires. We were depleted from Mario for 6 years and then we get Sunshine, not enough IMO. I was so happy hearing about Mario 128.
Still very worth a purchase though, comes right after Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness and arguably Resident Evil(not IMO).

I think the only thing that turned most gamers off to it was the beginning... with the ugly FMV and teh disorienting beginning boss.
Trust me, once you get used to the game, and become good at teh controls... well, you love playing it... because you look so damn cool doin it. Heh.

Well, I just got Dark Cloud 2 yesterday so I can't speak for it just yet. I'll get back to you on that. I can certainly say that it being 40 bucks is a great deal though. Skies of Arcadia, on the other hand, is a solid port of a very, very good RPG so I definitely recommend it. I'm already a good 30 hours into it and I certainly recommend it because it's really kept my attention well with interesting enemy designs and lots and lots and lots of action. The boss fights really make this game.
Personally, I got Splinter Cell about a week ago for my Xbox and my final decision on it is that it suffers from an extreme case of "artificial difficulty-itis" that is really unforgivable and I wound up returning it. It's a really pretty game and all, but there's frequent sections where you have to guess what to do, not figure out, but actually guess, and you die a ton of times because there's no way to actually figure out what to do except through trial and error. It's on thing where a game is very, very hard but fair about it (Like Contra:Shattered Soldier)- I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with having to guess what to do to complete an objective because the game doesn't give you enough information to do what you need to. Splinter Cell does this. A LOT. To me that should never, ever happen.

I agree that people need to decide for themselves which games they want, but it is helpful when torn between two games (as I was) to hear what other people liked or disliked about a game, to see which of the two might better suit your tastes. Normaly I just get recommendations from my friends or try out their copy of a game, but sometimes my friends haven't played the game I am interested in. It is in that case that forums like this can help give me a little extra information, so that I can make a better informed decision. But my heart was already set on either Dark Cloud 2 or Skies of Arcadia Legends.

It's a fun game. It's definitely not a racing game, though. I'm not sure how high the replayability is, either -- there are precious few sidequests, most of which aren't very interesting.

^Yeah its not THAT great. Really good game though if you are looking for a more colorful adventure with awesome graphics. Something went wrong with this game leaving it far below expectations, we all had such high hopes for this one and it dissapointed. It wasnt bad at all, just not really as epic and brilliant as it looked.
Boy I was hyped for that game, I thought it would be a real Zelda replacement when I was stilled bummed out about the Celshaded graphics and ultimately it didnt even come near Zelda.
Id say pick this after Metroid, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil in one player adventures. But with games like PN03, FF:CC, Zelda, Virtua Fighter RPG, Mario 128..... you have single player experiences that are much more promising and worth the money.
A good game after all, and if you have lots of money, go get it.

Only get Ghost Recon if you have an Xbox and Xbox Live. That's the way to play it online via console. Otherwise, there's nothing to do in it except complete all 50 dossier missions.

I agree with super smash bros, and star fox. I haven't played any THPS so I can't say anything about that. But I think you have to be a die-hard Sonic fan to enjoy SOAB 2. The only thing that kept me playing was the Chao raising and racing. The game itself would have been better but the camera totally ruins everything, enough for me to recommend not getting it. However, my favorite game overall for the cube has been Pikmin. I highly recommend that game and it is now on sale for 30 bucks.

Just to prove how valuable it is to try a game out for yourself and not listen to others, let me throw in my opinion too. I have bought SFA and played through it twice. I would say it's a little above average when you look at the total package and definitely not up there with Nintendo's titles or even Rare's previous games. I, however, loved both Banjo games on the N64. So there you are, another contradicting opinion to what everyone else has listed

number 10 is a toss up between a few games.....monkey ball2, rouge leader, wave race, pikmin, luigis mansion......and then besides these really good 14 exclusives there are tons of multi console games that are good like time spiltters 2, madden, well a lot of sports games.....

anyways, unless your damn sure you will enjoy a game from reading reveiws/played a prequle of it, rent it first! avoid disapointment and money loss, dont go off what other people tell you, as hostile creation said, trust your instincts, but if you have the slightest bit of query about whether you would enjoy the title or not, rent it/borrow it/ask a store clerk to let you have a go (most are very obligeing, given it could damn well mean a sale!))

As for Golf, I am 2 handicap. Been trying for years to get it to 0 but just can get there yet.

Resident Evil Zero: Not only will it give you a good scare or two, but if your a fan of the franchise or wanna get into it, this is where it all starts baby, oh YEAH! Doesn't get much better then this, leech kicking, hunter killing, zombie nut kicking goodness.
Star Fox Adventures: If your into adventure games this is a definate pick-up IU had LOADS of fun with this titles and this is definatly one of the top ten gamecube games, plenty of the item collecting nostalgia that takes you back to the days of Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie
Eternal Darkness: Another creepy title, not as 'jumpy' as resident evil, nor does the graphics match resident evils, but the story line and impressive gameplay is where the game is at. Its definatly as involving as any psychological thriller of a movie, action and storyline and plenty of puzzles let you know this game is one of the BEST!
Metroid Prime: one of the OLDEST franchises were amped up for this game and it didn't come out half bad. Surprisingly it has the same feel as the old Metroid games even though its 3-D and first person, plus it gives a needle full of Nostalgia but from back in the early nineties.
Timesplitters 2: This game is nothing less then FUN! Its a FPS and is a fast paced story lined based game from the people that brought you 'Goldeneye' on the 64, this game feels SOOO familure it might scare you.

anyways i'm pretty much split between two games, ikaruga and burnout 2. after reading PGC's review of burnout 2 i'm thinking about trading in NFS:HP2 for it. but then i see all the great reviews ikaruga is getting.... help! i haven't played the original burnout but it looks sweet and i think i'd like it, but i kind of also want a classic shooter type of game...
one question i have about both of these games is do they have multiplayer?

Once I finish Wind Waker, I'm going to be looking for my next game purchase. I'm a little burned out on RPGs. I think I'd like a platforming-type game. To be more specific, I enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine and I think I'd like something with a similar graphical and gameplay style. Help me out here! Until then I think maybe you might want to check out Rayman 3. Sonic Adventure DX looks like it'll be a nice choice but it's coming out June. Maybe Wario World might turn out well despite the impressions from E3 2002. After all, it's been well over a year since it was first shown so the game should've advanced well enough to be a worth purchase.

1: Metroid Prime - Excellent game, the last boss is a pain so you get some gratification after you win
2: Wind Waker - excellent game, the worst part is that it was too easy
3: Zelda Master Quest - Pick it up if you still can
4: Super Smash Brothers Melee - Very good multiplayer, not so good solo
5: Mario Party 4 - Very good multiplayer, not so good solo
6: Super Mario Sunshine - Not the best game, but definately fun for a while
7: Pikmin - Very fun game, only 7.5 hrs of gameplay tho since you have a time limit

Eternal Darkness is much better, fun, controlled and story driven then REmake. Its as much a musthave as Metroid and Zelda and almost as good.

Also...just an observation....coming from having a PS2 and about 40 games including every 'big' title....it may be just me but the Gamecube games (especially Metriod, Zelda Wind Waker, Eternal Darkness, Luigi's Mansion to name my favorites so far) all seem to hold my interest much better/longer than the PS2 games I had. I still think the graphics are better and love those load times that are almost non-existent on the Gamecube.
Based on everything I've read, tomorrow I'm getting Animal Crossing...can't wait!

As for the Cube, I picked mine up today on a total whim. I was going to buy myself another XBOX but decided to give the Cube a go. I got the Zelda pack, 3 games in one, and I love it so far. I'm surprised at the graphics quality and pure fun of the lil cube (it's about 1.5 times smaller than a PS2) and I am planning on picking up either Rogue Squadron or Metroid Prime later today ^__^
So, I'll be hanging around a lot more, and since I own a crapload of consoles, can provide info on ports, cross-console games, etc etc ^__^

It's incredibly hard, but I'll keep at it. After you play for 7 hours, you get unlimited credits, so that's probably around when I'll finally beat the game.

Hey, that's how I just beat that game. So unbelievably awesome. On hard, its a completely different game. Although, some people might not like Ikaruga because it is too short, I just play it so much because it's so addicting.

i heard from a friend that the controls in TS2 are a bit quirky. Is it tru that the anolong looking stick doesnt stay in the position that you left it?
ei. like in halo(sry for bringing an xbox game into discussion) you move the stick and the screen stays ther? my friend said that you can only move it to a certin degree until it moves the entire screen. can you shed some light on this? i havent played it personally. i really want this to be my next game but i want it to be as good as goldeneye and PD. thx for any help.

If you liked PD or Goldeneye then you will be blown away by TS2 everything is customizable in this game even the levels (you can make them). Now about sighting yes it does go back to the center after you let go of the c-stick, and is very sensitive, that is the only problem with this game, but it's a minor one don't think you wont be able to sight because you eventually kind of get used to it.
Oh yeah, this game is very fun and challenging, i recommend it to every fps maniac out there.

I think all the RE games are all moderately even in my scarey scale, but if you want something new out of all of them, i would go with RE0 2 characters at the same time is fun, and not as easy as you think it will be.

I like getting into games, and the RPG genre is the only one that usually has a really good storyline. Sure there are a few exceptions (metriod Zelda eternal darkness), but most good storylines are in the RPG genre. Also RPGs last a hell of alot longer then most games....

Theres also GBA connectivity with the GBA version to download levels to the GBA game. Without it, its used as a radar.

Games I own and recommend are:
- 1. Metroid (currently playing and loving)
2. Resident evil (I love this game to death and planning to buy RE:0 )
3. Zelda TWW (Scrolls bit tedious, but great game)
4. Pikmin (classic)
5. Waverace (currently playing, up to expert)
6. Mario Sunshine (probably should have just hired it, but good stuff)
I ranked them but they are all pretty close together.
I don't understand the hype with ED, it just got really boring with me. I can understand why people like it, but I prefer the horror of RE. I definately want to get RE:0. As for the 2 and 3, they are just ports and rank low. If they have the same great gameplay as RE I think I'll still pick them up, regardless of graphics.... hope they arn't too bad, maybe I'll hire instead.
There are heaps of other games I want to get! I'm thinking of getting SSBM but I moved to Sydney a few months a go and have no friends here

I agree. Mario Sunshine is well worth the money. If you liked Mario 64, you will love Mario Sunshine. The game isn't groundbreaking, but it's presentation is excellent, it's difficult, and it's just very addictive.

I would rent the games and try them out before you buy them. Star Fox Adventures isn't a popular game with a lot of people (me included), but neither is Lost Kingdoms (I liked the game though). Star Fox Adventures is a lot longer... but it will also likely start boring the hell out of you half way through... Lost Kingdoms is a tad repetitive as well, but it's short, and the replay value is actually quite good.
Basically, I can't answer that question for you, or really give much advice.

Weird, it seems i'm the only person that didn't like Eternal Darkness. The only aspect of the game that appealed to me was the sanity factor but besides that; i was not impressed.N64 graphics

While Resident Evil, has always been a cheap copy of Fredric Raynals Alone in the Dark, Eternal Darkness finaly moves the genera forward.
The game is packet with originality; Sanity effects, a great magic system, a truely unique story, wonderfully intergrated charecters.
The story, IMO, its its strongest point, not only a cool tale, but told without using year-long cutscenes.
You play most of the story, and it all wonderfully fits together.
As for the graphics and sound, their amazing.
Whoever said they where N64 quality, must have a pretty rare N64.
The charecter models, to this day, remain the best scene on the GC.
The voice acting, is also amazing. (well, most of the charecters).
oh, Monkey Ball also rules, if you got patients.

now that the unpleasantness is out of the way, i think monkey ball 1 is better than 2.
i have both of them and i feel that MB1 is a better game all round. the single player levels are more creative rather than tacky, and all the multiplayer games are fun (some of the multiplayer games in MB2 are crap).
if youve ever played the classic "marble madness" you will have some idea of what monkey ball is like. it becomes very challenging, to the point of, "AAAAAAAAHHHH!!! I HATE THIS GAME!!!!" , but then youll get a little bit better and realise its cool. excellent multiplayer of course too.

Anyway, here are the Gamecube games I was impressed by:
- METROID PRIME (but after hour 20... after you've explored 95% of the game... it gets quite boring)
- MONKEY BALL 1 (like Marble Madness in 3D... although like MM, the novelty quickly wears off)
- ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME (yeah it's an old N64 port... but the boss battles are some of the best I've ever seen! And it's challenging.)
- ETERNAL DARKNESS (ditto... this game gave me nighmares. That's a first! Where RE is like a cheesy B-movie, ED is like a Hitchcock suspense/horror film. Pure genius!)

Well that's about it. Here are the games I did NOT like:
- MARIO SUNSHINE (why would I want to waste time washing stuff? it's like washing my car (yuck). I'd rather go re-play Mario 64.)
- ZELDA: WIND WAKER (too easy... too easy... too easy. And boring. There are much, much better ocean exploration games out there. Like Pirates!)
- ANIMAL CROSSING (I already own a bedroom/house that I can collect and fill with objects... why would I want to do it in a fantasy game? no thanks.)

RE4 won't be out for a very long time, so get either RE or RE0 instead for now...
Get the first Metroid Prime...Not only is it incredibly good, it will probably help you better understand what goes on in the second one...

My friend who is an xbox fanboy is thinking about getting a gamecube, although he often calls it lamecube and makes obsene "crotch jokes" because of the different sizes of the consoles. It's funny how many people like gamecube but dont admit it in public.

Rebel Strike is fun, but probably won't last that long unless you're looking for all gold medals. The flight levels are excellent and the vehicle levels are also well done. The speeder bike through Endor was
. However the on-foot levels are pretty bad IMO--you pretty much just run forward and tap A the whole time--luckily there aren't too many of these in the game.THUG is alright. There is a lot of stuff to do in the game and in each level which is pretty cool. The on-foot dynamic doesn't seem to add that much to the game but then again I haven't really used it very much. I'd say if you like the other TH games then you would like THUG.

Also, i LOVE SSX Tricky, but for some reason SSX3 just doesnt grab my attention like it should. Maybe i should play it or rent it or something.

If you are one of the 2 or 3 people who actually liked Star Fox Adventures, BUY THIS GAME. You will love it.
If you are one of the vast majority who hate it, then you will probably hate this game too. If the idea of hunting item after item for what seems to be no real purpose strikes the fear of God into your heart, and is among one of your most hated concepts for a game, then you would probably agree with me in thinking that THE GAME JUST SUCKS.
I have not yet played Prince of Persia, but it HAS to be better than Sphinx.

In Star Fox Adventures, what really got to me was the incredibly annoying Tricky, the incredibly slow plot, the incredibly SENSELESS plot, the endless collecting of items just to move on, and the boring repetitive gameplay.
In Sphinx, what really got to me was the sense of deja vu that I was just repeating Star Fox Adventures. After collecting 10 amulets and being rewarded with a key, I was a little unsettled. After hunting all over the damn place for 3 jewels 20 minutes later and being rewarded with yet another bloody key, I simply had enough. I didn't play much longer after that.

Ok, I'm 16 got a licsense, and want a gaming system, for when friends come over and crap or when I get bored. My Fam-lay doesn't have too much money So I put the Gamecube with free 4 game zelda disk for 99.99 on my list. I'm starting to think its a bad idea. How come You can't play games like madden 2004, nba live 2004 online? Without being able to play online, gamecube will never be successful in my opinion.. I mean a link to the past is fun but, the fun can only last so long when I want to go online and play a dude from hong kong 1 on 1. Gamecube has lots of great games but i wanna open up fire on citizens like on vice city, or like i said, play online with madden.... I used to have a ps2 and do it but I sold it due to money problems. I was told I would get a response here so plmk.

-If you're looking specifically for online and you must have it, you should probably get an Xbox, which supposedly has good online sports games and such.
-Gamecube doesn't have much in the way of "hella kewl" GTA-type games or sports games, however it still has a ton of other good games. For example: Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, F-Zero, Super Monkey Ball, etc. etc.

To tell you the truth the main reason I wanted a gamecube is to get a link to the past. I have it on my computer (Dont tell anyone) lmao, but I've never actually played any other zeldas other then the original and a link to the past, I grew up on a link to the past and snes I remember back to the nes but it was near the end of its life. Are the other zeldas on the sample disc even comparable to a link to the past?

I mean Zelda rocks but everybody knows DOOM 3 will bring a revolution.
Will legend-games like DOOM 3, Halflife 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Splinter Cell 2 be available for GameCube?
Both DOOM 3 and Halflife 2 are already scheduled for an XBOX release, PS2 probably too.
The console's price is great, the games are cheap, so it's not a question of money, but of game availability.

fyi doom3 is not going to ps2, and hl2 will probably come out for gc2/ps3...
Aside from the games you mentioned there is lots more (GC-only) in the GC's bright and shiny future... games like killer 7, metroid prime 2, zelda: ww 2, game zero, unity, baten kaitos (US), tales of symphonia (US), mgs:tt, re4 and more.... all of them are promising titles, so I'd say you don't have to worry about it.
Edit: best case scenario would be getting both a powerfull PC, and a GC, if you can afford them. PC is the primary and prefered platform for d3 and hl2 IMO

I would have to disagree with everyone. I would get the gamecube with windwaker because for 100.00 you can get gamecube, windwaker, nintendo power, and the collectors disk(80.00 for gamecube and WW + 20.00 for NP subscription). I know next to nothing about Sonic, but I think the local Babbage's had a demo of this running when I was there the other day. I played for a minute and it seemed like a fun platformer. Maybe I'm blind, but I haven't seen it mentioned much around here.

Super Mario Sunshine is a really good single player game (though not as good as the others), and has near-perfect controls. If you don't mind the tropical theme this is another must-have.
Those are the only 2 I have played, but I have heard good things about Hitman 2. I would NOT recommend Starsky and Hutch. Stay away from that one. And don't forget to get Metroid Prime and Zelda: The Wind Waker if you haven't already.

If you want a turn based RPG then most will agree that it's Skies Of Arcadia that you need. Want more action oriented RPGing where you still level up? I highly recommend Koie's masterpiece Mystic Heroes. It's got a 4 player multiplayer option and really shows what the Cube can do with it's graphic prowess. One of the best games on the system IMO. Try finding it, though.
There's SO many titles on this Cube and the majority are worth every penny. Grab a copy of Nintendo Power and look at the current games list that they publish in every issue. It's huge. Buy it every month if you can. Just go with whatever genre you're in the mood to play. Also remember that whatever many people say sucks, just might end up being YOUR favorite game. Use the opinions of others as a general guideline, but be your own judge. Some of the more obscure lesser titles can be some of the best.

I own and love Viewtiful Joe-- it definitely has that old school vibe, and it takes two seconds to learn the controls, and start whoopin' on people (er, robots). Super Monkey Ball has me curious. Wario World. Wanna see a fat guy in a yellow suit beat the crap out of monsters in order to get his fortune back?
Mario Golf. Play the front or back nine of your favorite course. If you've got time play the whole course. This game is SO tightly buttoned up, it's perfect. This is great proof that when Nintendo's on....they're ON.
Any sports game, if you're into sports, 'cos you can just play a single game.
I'm also gonna mention Baldur's Gate. A mindless dungeon crawler. Just kill things. Lots of things.
Racing games are good. Do a time trial or work on a few races. Not time consuming unless you want them to be. Auto Modellista.
Soul Caliber. You can work on this fighter at your own pace.
There's craploads of quick games. Do the PN03.

One of the reasons we chose the GC was the great selection of games available for him and his 4 year old brother (who thinks he's 10).
We are looking for a GC game that is like Microsoft's "Age of Empires" PC game - fun, educational and challenging.

The reason that I recommended playing the PSX version FIRST is so that he could experience what freaked the gaming community out "back in the day". To get an understanding of WHY the game was so huge. Graphics ain't everything....but what this game showed on a 32-bit system was revolutionary.
After that...yep, grab the Cube version and freak over the opening CG and insane lighting effects. It's fun to compare where we were and how far we've come. Cube RE is still probably the best damned lighting I've seen in a next gen console game.
Rogue Ops......the games have a reputation of not really being that "buttoned up". They're okay as a weekend boredom rental.....but you might not want to spend the bux to buy them IMO.

Skies of Arcadia Legends is easily one of the best RPG's I've ever played- a bit tedious in the battles, but the rest of the game more than makes up for it.

Try the game Wario World. For family fun try either Mario Golf or Beach Spikers Volleyball (don't worry about the cover art, there's nothing suggestive in the game....and it's VERY easy to play. One button). There's also Luigi's Mansion or Mickey's Magical Mirror. The others have mentioned Animal Crossing and Pikmin. It's incredible.
Skies Of Arcadia. One of my personal favorites. But your kids are younger. It's more for an experienced gamer. As far as the RTS stuff (Real Time Strategy) like what Age Of Empires is, you won't find any of that sort of game on the Cube. It would be nice, but not the right market.

The game gets DARNED hard.....and that's on easy with an experienced race-gamer. I know that it sold huge, but I'll wager that it sits on MOST gamer's shelves unfinished. It's a b*tch, plain and simple. I finished it in one sitting, since I'm a tuner fan in RL.....but the game wasn't fun, it was a chore, and I'll never touch it ever again.

Although Mouse has already replied, I'd like to futher recommend this game. If you haven't played an RPG before, it might seem a little clumsy and difficult first, but it's a really great game. If you like doing crazy tricks then you would be much better off with SSX 3. If you like fast racing, go with 1080. SSX 3 has a lot more content and a cool new concept (the whole mountain idea), but 1080 is good too.

Yeah I can hear bad things about a game and then I see the $20 price tag and still think, "Why not?" A developer can sometimes know the game won't be all that and just decide to release the game starting a $20. With that in mind I'd still try to atleast get it because then I somewhat know that the game is deserving of $20 at first.

My mum is coming to America soon and I want her to buy me a game that is not released here or very hard to find in Aus.
So I am thinking either Skies of Arcadia or Ikaruga.
My only problem is how easy/hard are they to find in the US ?
Because my mum really wouldnt go out of her way to get me a game , she will probaly walk in ask and thats it.
My mum barley knows proper english ...so I need to know how much trouble would it be ?

The create-a-team/player mode's another good feature that's kept me busy for a while, trying to design the best pair of umm, pigtailed princesses to rule the beach with. Yeah.
This is a game I thought should've made it to "player's choice" status since the multiplayer is definitely valuable. I'd rather have this than Agent Under Fire.

I don't know about Freedom Fighters but the contol scheme in Metal Arms has all the movement on the left Thumbstick and turning and looking up and down on the right one. You can't change any of that, so no theres no left analog aiming. But yes, you can have the controls inverted. (I was a little pissed that there weren't different contols schemes to pick from, because i prefer walking and turning on the left and strafeing and looking on the right, but you kinda get used to it. )

Being 19 and doing Uni/part-time-work/living at home, I have money and lots of time to fill.
The games that I do have:
Ikaruga (hardest game I have ever played, thats what makes it so good), had to import this baby
F-Zero GX (I wanted a racing game, very fast and easy to play)
Metroid Prime (great all round game. the boss fights look great)
SSB melee (easy to play so its good for my sister and friends, pick up and play)
Zelda: Collector's Edition (have not really touched this one yet, but I intend finishing them all during one of the holidays)
Games i want to get (I will hire them first):
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (once I have played the n64 zelda games on the Collector's Edition I will make my mind up)
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (good reviews, interesting story)
Viewtiful Joe (I enjoyed playing double dragon on the nes, looks like a fun game)
and Metroid Prime 2 when it comes out.

HAHA I love this post, I was thinking the same thing just the other day. And coincidentally I also bought Hitman 2 months ago and also stopped playing after somewhere around 3-4 missions. This is erry as hell. I almost beat you to Metal Arms though, I almost bought it today at Gamestop for PS2, but something told me no in the back of my head. Note that Hitman 2 aiming with the right stick was easier than most games that require aiming with the right stick. Maybe because it's less intense than RF2, I dunno.
Gremio I had RF2 for PS2 it was a great game I must add I was a fan of the first one as well. If I recall right it did have customizable controls too. I actually prefer multiplayer in RF2 compared to TS2 which I own for GC. TS2 multi has more options. RF2 has a better single player quest. TS2 has map making and arcade mode mini-games which are alot of fun. Although I stated things about TS2 you already know, I'm stating them as the things that stand out for it compared to RF2.

I've recently discovered that Freedom Fighters' control scheme is very close to Hitman 2's, where aiming(camera control) is mapped to the C-stick.

Personally I loved the game, even though it was extremely easy in alot of areas and their was a small amount of repition (triforce shards collecting) and after awhile u get really annoyed by Links "heeya!!!!!!!!!" screams but truely the game's story, character, and gameplay is what makes this game one of the best on GCN if not the best.

Mario Sunshine on the other hand is a bit more of a 50/50 situation. In all regards it is not a terrible game though it is not a great one either. The story sucks. Gameplay is good, but it is a bit repetitive. A bunch of ppl will argue it's no Mario64, but IMO that's only because Mario Sunshine didn't go 4-d. Seriously Mario Sunshine is a improvement and decent sequel in the mario series it just didn't set a new standard in platform gaming that Mario 64 did.
In the end Wind Waker is an overall better game, and safer bet, however Mario Sunshine is a player's choice game so u can find it as $29.99 new or $24.99 used in most places.
If u have the money though I would suggest buying both of em.

So, I've played and loved PoP, BG&E, and I'm just about to beat the wonderful Wind Waker. I also played and forced myself to beat the mediocre StarFox Adventures.
My question is: which of the "second-tier" adventure games are good? The ones I had in mind (all of which are dirt, dirt cheap) were: The Hobbit, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, and Harry Potter: Sorceror's Stone (the Eurocomm one).
Any of 'em any good? I know PGC gave Hobbit a good review, but all the other magazines were really wishy-washy about it.

Such mixed reviews would lead me to try and rent them, if there was a decent rental store near me, and decide where to go from there.
Although first-person in perspective, Metroid Prime is a game many would consider to be a sort of action-adventure game. If you haven't played that yet, definately try to pick it up somewhere.

As far as Metroid Prime, I think I'm the only person on the planet who didn't like that game. It's wierd - I love FPS games, and I love adventure games.... but I found MP boring. I guess, when it comes down to it, I'll take story over gameplay, and Metroid had no story at all.
I am looking forward to Tales, although I'm a little intimidated by 40+ hour games

Besides, I'm not saying that gameplay isn't important, I'm just saying the value of storytelling in games is underrated. When you get both of these things combined, you get instant classics like Conker and Wind Waker. Games that are all gameplay and no story are ultimately forgettable.

Many will argue MP was a notable example of a game that effectively told a story without feeding it directly to the player. Granted, MP is mainly filled with backstory rather than a directly-fed "story in progress." Yet, there was a considerable amount of story to acquire if one made the choice to investigate and uncover the story for oneself, not unlike finding/reading diary pieces found in an archaeological expedition. Then it's arguable the story in progress is the actual interactive game experience in progress, which isn't far fetched since the game is explicity experienced from Samus' point of view. So, much of the backstory leads to an ongoing story/experience that's mentally/visually/audibly read, despite the absence of distinct text/narrative/speech.
If there wasn't a story to the game, I doubt we'd see the Metroid Prime comic that was featured in several issues of Nintendo Power, which was a basic visual summary of the game's major events and confrontations.

The story was easy for me to understand, even though the only other Metroid game I'd completed at the time was Metroid Fusion. I thought the storyline was fantastic and how it crosses games is even better. The Zelda games don't do this to even nearly the same degree.

Mumei, I think they just wanted to emphasize that they were linked, but the storylines don't really crossover in any way (WW's reference to the OoT Link isn't crossover imo, just trying to continue the story in a way that makes you believe it's all part of the same world, not the same story)

Skies of Arcadia: Japanese console RPG. You know the deal. Run around in dungeons, fight off random encounters in turn based combat, talk to NPCs, solve puzzles, etc. Not much action in there, but a pretty lengthy plot.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Multiplayer Hack&Slash RPG. Run around (alone or with friends), kill monsters, kill boss, repeat. Requires one GBA per player in multiplayer, singleplayer can be played with a standard controller. IMO the art style goes into the same direction as Wind Waker, though rendered differently. If you want action, get WW first, if you want an RPG Skies is the better choice.
Harvest Moon: One of those eco sims. You know, the kind where you start out poor with bad equipment and have to work for hours to get some money together. Involves a lot of repetitive cores (well, it IS a job simulation after all...)
Personally I liked WW, loved Skies, tolerated FFCC and hated Harvest Moon, but your oppinion on the subject might greatly differ.
Besides I want to lobby congress to make it a crime to own a GC but not Viewtiful Joe. Seriously, Joe is one of the best games this system/generation has to offer. Most would recommend WW first, I'd say go for Joe.

Since I spent 50 bucks on WW I might have to wait a while until I can afford Viewtiful Joe .. maybe in a few weeks.
On FFCC: A lot of my friends don't have GBA's they'll play the ocassional Smash Bros. with me on my GC but is it worth it to buy FFCC if there is no one around to play it with me (much like I dunno, Four Swords)?

This game will go down in history kind of like how duckhunt is for NES, years later you will see a zapper gun and automatically remember duckhunt and the glory of shooting at that damn dog, and of course u will sit down and play the game for hours on in even after the +10 or so years, same goes to Donkey Konga. I know i +10 or so years i will find my conga drums in a box and just say "OMG i gotta fire up my GCN and play Donkey Konga!"

just got a cube on the 20th got a bunch of games been havin fun!
today got ssx3 and ikaruga, played 2 runs of ssx3 and my cube f'ed up and now won't read any of my games.... called nintendo and they're sending me a new unit, but what a bummer the thing is 6 days out of the box and toast???? wtf. now i'm bored in my hotel room alone with no skies of arcadia or dubledash or ssx or ikaruga (didn't even get to play it once yet.

Be sure to check the final cost. Capcom is currently running their "Free shipping on orders over $40" promotion, and that game alone might not qualify for it. I also haven't seen anything "cheap" that you can add to help qualify for free shipping.

I would stay away from LOTR:the third age its just a really bad rip off FF:X and it uses a dumbed down FF:X battle system, Donkey Konga is excellent if you like music rythm games, Double Dash has a bland single player but it excells very well as a multiplayer. I would recommend Donkey Konga and Double Dash but stay away from LOTR:The Third age. If you looking for good RPGs on the cube I would recommend Skies Of Arcadia($20 now), Tales of Symphonia(60 hours long), Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Baten Kaitos(if you dont mind its card battle system).
I onley have enuff money for 1 of those games. Donkey Konga or Mario Kart: Double Dash?

EDIT: Multiplayer will require multipul Konga controlers for optimal performance in gameplay so if your on a really tight budget and want a great multiplayer go for Double Dash.

Which should I get? I'm a HUGE fan of Mario Tennis 64, it's one of my favourite games ever, but what i've seen of the GCN one hasn't really excited me, it looks too.. arcadey (can't think of a better word), too much crap happening and not enough tennis. Am I wrong here? I dunno, help. I already have bongos from Donkey Konga, which I play all the time to let some steam off on those sturdy bongos, and a second bongo game would be really good plus I really like what I see of Jungle Beat, it looks damn fun. On the third mutated hand there's Resident Evil 4, which everyone's claiming is the best game ever, and i'm not going to disagree with that it looks damn awesome, and I love Resident Evil... but... I'm in a similar predicament; split between Four Swords, Sands of Time, and Jungle Beat. (I'm going to wait for RE4 to go player's choice then pick it up cheap.) Four Swords interests me because its Zelda and Bloodworth compared the single player to ALttP. Sands of Time sounds good because it was praised so much... though I didn't like Beyond Good and Evil which also got good reviews and has vaguely similar gameplay (and was made by the same studio?). It's also cheap. I already have a pair of bongos, and as a concept Jungle Beat sounds awesome to me. All of these games could become hard to find in a month or two, so in buying one I risk losing the ability to buy the others.

C&C Generals has dropped to ten Euros here, should be able to find a good deal on that. I also found Arena Wars for a fiver recently but I doubt you're going to get it that cheap (good game though, I think 15GBP is pretty close to the MSRP). Also, Perimeter is great but that requires a quite beefy PC.

When you face the last Boss in the game, the developer switches the controls completely around so that you wind up going left when pushing the control stick right, and right when pushing it left! Something which made me so messed up in my head during playing that I couldn´t finish the game or properly coordinate my real-life movements in day-to-day situations for 1/2 Hour afterwards!
It was really an ackward feeling, and one which I regard completely unnescessary, and far from usefully "inventive"! There is simply too big a chance that some gamers will sustain bad side-effects from such control issues and this should be avoided thus, for it is NOT normal to do so. Right should be right, and left should be left in my opinion. One should not mess around with peoples sense of direction.
I am still furious at that end of an otherwise outstanding game, and will probably not play any more of games coming from that developer, if they continue to twist the difficulty in such an annoying manner at the end of games. I do like to be able to complete a game, and know I have seen all of it (I also had a problem with the ending of Rayman 2, from same developer (Michael Ancel/UBISOFT) where I continued to die nomatter how many times I tried (even with the best guides) because of an annoying camera which made it impossible to complete the last Boss battle).
So now you have been warned, in case you also get a negative side effect of this crazy switch of the controls!

That said, I still like the first one more. There was just something charming about it that sticks with me. However, if you play the second one without playing the first one, your experience may vary. The worst thing about the first one is no matter what your playing style is, you can't put more than 8-10 hours into it due to the time limit (unless you play and don't save at the end of the day). If that's a big turn off for you, definitely get the second one.
However (in the US at least) Pikmin is only $20 and Pikmin 2 is still $50 in most places. So price might be a factor for you. I'm not sure about prices in Colombia.

I couldnt find the first Prince of Persia like I wanted, Lord of the RIngs Two Towers was there and it was only 6.99 so I might get it next time.
I mostly wanted to get evolution worlds for my younger sister, she plays the original one on DC and likes to play GC more so I wanted to know if it was anythign like the DC version the guy at game store said its the thrid in the series and plays very similar. My Sis is only 17 so she hasnt played many RPGS, Evolution and Fable are her first ones next to Mario RPG which she plays the most.
Icecold I think I mave mentiond several times I hate Donkey Kong games but at least you were suportive and mentiond a platformer. I actauly have been considering getting Frogger and the Pac-Man world games but I don't know yet.
NFSU2 kicks @$$! Thats the kind of Need For Speed I like, plus cool music. I love how they got The Doors AND Snoop to do a song together, love both of them and getting a song together was cool.
I still havent found Toe Jam and Earl 3 for X-box is it a hard game to find? thats the top of my list right now bt I cant find it no where. Oh and before someone says ebay I dont buy from them, nor any other online site.

If your looking for a decent platformer, you might want to check-out Pitfall: The Lost Expedition. Fun and nostalgic.
I would also recommend the sorely underappreciated Beyond Good & Evil. It's one of my absolute favorites from this generation.

I will most likely be going back to look for some of the games suggested, theres only 3 stores in town that sell used video games and none are bery good for GC, Gamestop has the better selection but they sometimes charge too much for games. We have 2 local used game stores but the 1 has like ten GC games at a time ever and the other around twnety or so to chose form, never a big selection.
I guess I am moew into nastalia games than anything. But I did pick up Gun and X-men Legends II recently also and I have to play some more of those plus I have been entrenched in FF III on SNES this last weeks since I finaly found a copy pretty cheap.

What I like so far about Gun, besides the old west theme, is how it has that Slow motion so you can take your time aiming at enemies. The graphics are pretty good too and the story is ok so far.
I actualy sound more old school than the new stuff myself because tahst what I used to listen to, I try and mix a little of the p-funk sound into my songs when I can. My major infulences are Beastie Boys, Kid N Play, Run DMC, KRS-One, LL Cool J, 2Pac, Dre, Snoop, Kurupt, Daz Dillinger, Warren G, Jazzy Jeff, and Whoodini. I listen to all forms of rap music but i prefer the late 80s and early Ninties but my favorite groups are beatie Boys and Dogg Pound. I dont listen to much of the new stuff, hate Kanye West and guys like him, but 50 cent is Decent.
I produce my own tracks I am a old School DJ/Turntablist in addition to doong a lot of digital work on my PC.

It's chapter 10, and I'm trying to save all the people from their cells and escaping without being seen by a guard. Well, in order to go by like ninja, you have to remain out of range from one of the guards. To do that you can just put the cursor over the guard and press A to see their range. Well, what happens is if you stand on the edge of their vision thinger and then they move towards you, the next turn when you look at their range it sometimes blocks it from going past your character. By that I mean, you can move some characters into what you THINK is a safe spot, and then when you move another character all of a sudden the game says WHOOPS LOL and shows that your character was blocking their vision so when you move all of a sudden it expands and your characters are in a DANGER ZONE that didn't exist 5 seconds ago.
It's pretty retarded.

Here's an example using attack range: If you have a guard in space B1 (I'm using Battleship labeling) with a 6 space movement range and you have Oscar in space B5 and Ike in space B7 the guard won't be able to reach Ike because he'd have to move 7 spaces in order to be in adjacent square. (3 spaces over to B4, 1 space up/down to space A4/C4, 2 spaces over to space A6/C6 and then one more space (either B6, A7 or C7) to get next to Ike.) However, once you move Oscar out of spaces B2 to B6 range the guard has a straight 6-space shot to Ike and can attack.
It's the same principle for movement and being spotted range. If you have someone blocking the guard's path he won't be able to reach a certain spot. So you think to yourself "A-ha! I'll move this guy over here and then he'll be safe. Unfortunately, you have to make sure that by moving that character you don't open up a direct route to a different character that can then be spotted.
Chapter 10 is a pain. I did it using stealth, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. If I had to do it over again I'd probably just say screw the bonus experience and take everyone out.
EDIT: Since I'm such a nice guy, I even found you a walkthough so you can beat the chapter with the bonus experience if you like. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance FAQs & Guides. Go there and select Ask_B_007's walkthrough (first one in the list). Then do a Ctrl + F and search for [FE10.1]. I didn't use this guide, but I know people who did and it seems to work just fine. For some reason he doesn't recruit Kieran (which I think is a mistake) but I'm sure you could easily add him to the to-do list as the guards rotate on a cycle and it shouldn't be too difficult to find a pattarn to get Oscar over there.

Why must I like turn based tactics to enjoy an action-adventure game? Especially now that I learn that FE has a stealth section so it's a combination of the two genres I hate the most?

There's no penalty for doing/not doing stealth. The only benefit to going the stealth route is that it will give you more bonus experience, which you can disperse among your party members as you see fit. However, you probably get more experience overall if you were to fight rather than stealth.
As far as my Zelda remark, I was obviously kidding. However, I think the game is really great. It's much more forgiving that FE7 (the first GBA one released in America; not sure about Germany). That game was brutal.

Doesn't mean much. I've found Advance Wars brutally hard so even "easy" TBT games aren't for me.

Strangely enough, I'm not even a very big strategy fan. The only ones I've ever played are the Advance Wars series, the Fire Emblem series and Final Fantasy Tactics.

Oh, that's bad, I never care for characters that fall behind in any game. My motto is mostly "Useless now, useless forever", I'd probably let the weaker ones act as cannon fodder to get rid of them.
Perhaps the biggest thing I hate about TBT games is that you can't just tell a bunch of units to move somewhere (no matter where) and come back to them when they're done with that or give a group of units an order to attack a bunch of enemies and have them automatically take on the optimal targets. No, you have to manually execute every single turn and babysit every unit in your group. That's nice as long as you have three or four units like in Incubation but above that it's micromanagement hell. Oh and I hate how I always seem to be within the enemy's range but he never is within mine. That's probably because I don't micromanage my movements enough to move only to the edge of the enemy's range and wait until next turn to attack.

If you don't mind killing off useless units the process becomes even simpler because (a) you don't have to worry about not letting them die and (b) you can usually more even your good units into the enemy's attack range because the CPU will generally go for the weaker target (i.e. the bait you don't care about). However, for me, I can never bare to kill-off a unit, no matter how useless. I feel bad for his or her family. (Such was the case with Dorcas in FE7. No matter how worthless that guy was I would have hated to be the one who had to go and tell his missus that I let him die at the hands of a Wyvern Rider.)

So I just found out recently that Cristal Chronicles is not a turn based RPG! yeah I know Im way behind, but the moment I saw FF in the title I assume the turn based mechanic and dissmissed the title completly.

Overall the SP gameplay is pretty sucky, most enemies (even the regular kind) follow a simple pattern and you have to exploit that to do anything (usually "get close enough to trigger a specific attack, run away, wait for the attack to end, hit him, repeat"). Your inventory is constantly full with various crap that you MIGHT need later but never really know because you can't read the recipes you find and the items just aren't documented in the manual. You often have to repeat levels you have already done.
