Title: GameStop payouts up?
Post by: S-U-P-E-R on October 30, 2005, 06:32:44 PM
Some of my local buddies said GameStop was paying more than they used to for used games, and I checked in with them on some prices, and they were paying more than I expected - about what I'd get for them on ebay for the particular games. Anybody got more details on this?

It may have something to do with Best Buy dabbling in used games.  Perhaps they're trying to spread some goodwill towards people who sell used games.

Maybe this has to do with the upcoming Xbox 360 launch.  A lot of people trade in their old games and systems for money to buy the new consoles.  Perhaps Gamestop feels that if they payout a little more then they can sell more Xbox 360s and thus more games, more accessories, etc.  It's in a game store's best interest that people own the newest consoles because that's where most of the money is going to come from.

That doesn't really make much sense.  If GameStop is thinking so much about the next generation, they'd probably assume they'd have a hard time selling used games from the current generation.  Why would they purchase games for a higher price if they don't think they could sell them back at a high price?
