Title: Revolution Retro Game DL Wishlist
Post by: Kairon on October 21, 2005, 03:31:34 PM
I'm hoping we can use this thread to compile and relate our wishlists for Retro Nintendo System Games that we'd be totally willing to download if they somehow made it onto the Rev's DL service.
Here's my proposed format:
Nintendo Published Games: game (system) <- comment ...
Third Party Published Games: game (system) <- comment ...
I'm also proposing that we use a standard format so that even within our wishlist, we can see the game that are liable to make it onto the Rev download (Nintendo-published games) and the third-party published titles that are more likely to be pipedreams.
Also, let's try to add an additional challenge: list the games you'd actually consider buying assuming a price of 4 dollars for NES games, 7 dollars for SNES games, and 10 dollars for N64 games. These prices probably aren't right, but what the heck, this is a "wish"list right?
And yes, please do come back and edit/update your lists!
Now that I'm done with all my jabbering, I'd like to post my own personal list.
Carmine M. Red's Wishlist of Retro Games to DL, First Draft
Nintendo Published Games:
-Balloon Fighter (NES) -Kid Icarus (NES) -The Legend of Zelda (NES) -Mother(NES) <-The Japan-only game whose sequel was Earthbound -Star Tropics(NES) <- I've never played this... -Lolo 1(NES) -Lolo 2(NES) -Lolo 3(NES) -The Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past (SNES) -Super Metroid (SNES) -Mario Kart (SNES) -Mario Paint (SNES) <- Even if they release a new version for the REV, I want the original -Super Mario RPG (SNES) -Battle Clash (SNES) <- Just for nostalgia, but in reality, playing without the Superscope isn't the same -Super Mario 64 (N64) -Mario Kart 64 (N64) -Star Fox 64 (N64) -Blast Corps. (N64) <- Just for nostalgia, and the music really -Pokemon Snap (N64) ... I can't think of anymore for now...
Third Party Published Games:
-Gauntlet II (NES) -Marble Madness (NES) -Kickle Cubicle (NES) -Contra (NES) -Tiger Heli (NES) -Jackal (NES) -1984 (NES) -River City Ransom (NES) -Illusion of Gaia (SNES) -Secret of Mana (SNES) -Secret of Evermore (SNES) <-I've never played this one -Final Fantasy 3 (SNES) <-yes, Three, as in the American Version -Sim City (SNES) -Rock 'n Roll Racing (SNES) -Legend of Mystical Ninja (SNES) -Turok 64 (N64) -Body Harvest (N64) <- The Precursor to GTA 3! -Quest 64 (N64) <- One of the worse RPG experiences I've ever had, yet why I am so drawn to it? -Gauntlet 64 (N64) ... I can't think of anymore for now...
Notes: I'm sure there are more games that are vital parts of my childhood, it's just I don't recall them at the moment. I hate getting old and senile.

mach rider!
EDIT] perfect dark and goldeneye, though I don't think that nintendo is going to build hype for a competitor's game (unless they maybe impliment revo-control or offer a fps that puts rare's latest offering to shame)

Definitely Earthbound, Mario RPG, some of the Zelda games I missed, Goldeneye and maybe Perfect Dark, a few other games. I'll have a more comprehensive list later.

I will go ahead a compile a list based on system because I'm not sure if Nintendo published some of these or not (e.g., RC Pro-Am -- was it Nintendo or Tradewest that published it?).
NES Games 1. RC Pro-Am (Nintendo or Tradewest?) 2. Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (Tecmo) 3. Bionic Commando (Tecmo) 4. Kid Icarus (Nintendo) 5. Punch-out
SNES Games 1. Chrono Trigger (Squaresoft) 2. Mario RPG (Squaresoft) 3. F-Zero (Nintendo) 4. Super Castlevania IV (Konami) 5. Super Metroid (Nintendo) 6. Pilotwings (Nintendo) 7. The Lost Vikings (Interplay) 8. Rock 'n Roll Racing (Interplay)...drawn to this game because of the upgrades and the races were really fun.
N64 Games 1. Goldeneye (Nintendo) 2. Perfect Dark (Rareware-published...Nintendo distribution) 3. Conker's Bad Fur Day (Rareware-published...Nintendo distribution) 4. Pilotwings 64 (Nintendo) 5. Beetle Adventure Racing (EA) 6. Indiana Jones...which was only available for rent (LucasArts) 7. Starfox 64 (Nintendo) 8. International Superstar Soccer (Konami)
That seems like it. I own the Zelda Collector's Edition Disc, as well as the Master Quest disc...so I don't really need to download those.

The Lost Vikings has a GBA port and is apparently made by Blizzard.

Mobygames says that RC Pro-Am was developed by Rare, and published by Nintendo, but I'm not too sure, to be honest. Rock and Roll Racing was also published by Blizzard, and got a GBA port in 2003.

i want harvest moon on SNES soo much.. do you all agree that no other harvest moon game can capture the feeling of the SNES title? maybe the DS can bring it back, but there was so much love in that game

I totally agree. I have Harvest Moon 3 and have played a lot of Friends of Mineral Town, but neither of those come close to how awesome the original was.
I can't be bothered in making my own list, but I plan on downloading every game that I own already plus all the ones I never got a chance to own, making my Rev the center of Nintendo console gaming

Any Harvest Moon is better than the GC one.

Which is a pity becuase it looks like DS is getting a port of the GC one judging by screens. Forgetmenot Valley more like Forgettable Valley am I RITE?
Yeah there was something special in Harvest Moon on SNES that hasn't been replicated. Maybe it was the laughable translations or perhaps the far more free form farm, not segregated. The sequels have all been more "complete" in a sense with more things to do more crops more people but something jsut isn't right.

The newer HM games are way too slow, that's the problem. Not to mention the graphics need to be a lot more colourful.
Poem of Happiness looks so much better. But of course we don't get that! Though both got the same 31/40 in Famitsu. DS got 30. But the DS version is like so many 1st gen DS games: no imagination. The touch screen is PERFECT for so much stuff. You can do field work with it, for example. Much easier to point squares than to use the d-pad and button. Though the touchable items screen is a decent idea. But still. It would be perfect for field work.

It just hit me. You're right...Blizzard was a publisher...but only for the translations to the GBA. I just remembered who published the original SNES ones. Interplay. They were responsible for both "The Lost Vikings" and "Rock n' Roll Racing". I remember because video game reviewers couldn't believe how great the music was on both of those titles. Interplay also came out with the rent-only Clayfighters. They were bought out or had a name change.
Also, if you got the Rare website, the company did program RC-Pro Am. I was confused with Tradewest because they developed Battletoads and Tradewest published that game.
I think I'm going to add Kid Icarus...but I'm going to start a campaign that this franchise in 3D would make good use of the Rev Controller.

I'd love to see some GB and GBC downloads, myself. Sure, I guess you can find them used, but Nintendo's latest handhelds can't play 'em. I'd call GB/GBC games old enough for Revolution downloads.

Here's my wishlist:
Nintendo: the 2d zeldas, the 2d metroids, the 2d marios, the 2d Harvest Moons, kid icarus, super mario rpg, the.....actually, just about every game they published for the nes and snes. And paper mario, and the original smash bros.
non-nintendo: Body Harvest, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Sin and Punishment, Superman 64, and Carmageddon 64.

The only one that comes to mind immediately is World Cup Soccer for NES. I'd probably buy some of those uber-popular SNES RPGs like Chrono Trigger, FF3, Secret of Mana since I've never played any of 'em.

NES World Cup Soccer! My man!
That was the one where you could stand at half field, press A+B simultaneously, and use your special which would always go in, right?

back to Harvest Moon, I think the music of the original is what I miss. That and the grainy picture quality I got on my old TV... and yes, I prefer having one big, wild field to tame as opposed to the different distinct plots of land.
