Title: The Legend of Tingle: Remarkably Peculiar Game
Post by: UncleBob on October 06, 2005, 10:07:33 AM
Hmm.... What to think of this game idea. Will it expand more on existing Hyrulian storyline, or perhaps it will introduce an entierly new aspect of the land of Hyrule. Will it revolve around one of the "existing" Tingles (Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Oracle of Ages, or Hyrulean Adventure) or will it be a brand new Tingle?
An RPG presents an interesting possibility - will there be a "party" of characters? Perhaps Knuckle and the gang from Wind Waker? Or entierly new characters made up just for this game? A little of both, perhaps?
This game could be quite interesting to say the least...

Who's the dev? I've been wondering that.

From what I can tell, it's being done in-house...And I don't know what I can possibly say about this game from a single screen...

From the single screen it looks like tingle is floating over a boss-like monster with his balloons and he's going to drop a bomb in a specific place on the boss' head.
Then later he goes over to Stevey's house to hang out since they're good buddies.

It just seems like such a waste? No one really likes Tingle and he's barely even a character.

Tingle has a... following. They're a strange bunch though.

knowing Japan, it wouldnt be odd if Tingle has strong following there. When Aunoma mentioned they were leaving Tingle out of TP, he specifically said "some of the American gamers dont like him". This also means a zero chance of localization

Oh please please please please please please I hope they localize this. An instant buy from me, you can bet on that. Hell, if this doesn't come stateside I might even import it, JUST TO SAY I IMPORTED THE TINGLE GAME. Really, though, I hope to God it's localized because it has such potential to be delightfully weird. Like the Zelda version of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Just think about how great this game will be. You can let Tingle die over and over.
What can possibly be better than that.

I, too, really hope this comes stateside. Tingle's a completely ridiculous character, and it'd be nice to explore the world of Zelda through the eyes of a lunatic. Like someone else mentioned, they could have fun inserting a bunch of "in-jokes" about the series; hilarity would ensue.
So yeah, go-go Tingle RPG!

"This also means a zero chance of localization"
This is a Zelda game. Of course they're going to localize it.
Personally I just want to know what type of game it is. The screen doesn't give much of an indication and "RPG" can be a pretty vague term.
It's funny. A Zelda RPG has been a pretty popular "dream game" ever since Super Mario RPG came out. So now Nintendo might actually make one... and the main character is Tingle. D'oh!

Well, if you think about it, it's a better idea to go with a character that isn't Link. Compared to the action of real swordfights, doing the same thing in a turn-based fashion isn't that fun. But Tingle will likely fight (or combat, or duel, or whatever you want to call it) in a completely different way, thus it's a bit more appealing, since it'll likely be fun in a creative sense.
Plus, you know it's going to be funny, and there's a sore lack of good, funny games.

For some reason I'm really looking foward to this. It's a pretty ridiculous development to embark on and I love Nintnedo for doing so. For a while I worried that Nintendo would perhaps try too hard to please the crowd with TP and end up making it a little too dark and serious. It was an ungrounded suspicion and I can see now that they have no intention of ripping Zelda away from what it is. After Aonuma acknowledged that "some Armerican's don't like Tingle" I thought that we would't see Tingle again for a while. And so the sheer cheek of developing this game makes me smile. Of all the spin-offs possible within the Zelda universe, this is probably the one I like the sound of the most (though a Hyrulian RPG made by SE ala Super Mario RPG would be nice too, of course).
Did anyone else think that the title of the thread had been announced as the official name for the game when they first saw it? Because that would be awesome.

The AMN admins are saying that it was announced by Square, not Nintendo.

I'm really interested in this game! I love Tingle, I think he's a parody of Nintendo fans (or a parody of SOMETHING at least, it's been a while since i've played MM or TWW so I can't remember), and i'm hoping this game is a giant hilarious parody.

Now, my idea for this game is so strange I don't think it will ever happen, but here it is. It's all based off the Tingle Tuner concept in WW. It's an action RPG like Tales, only, unlike tales, all of the 'main' party members are controlled by AI. It's your job, as Tingle, to fly over head and drop bombs, keys, etc. to help the party's AI out. Think Tales of Symphonia meets Lemmings. =)
Well I think it would be cool.

Pale, of course they aren't, but most are, so when I hear RPG, it's only logical to think "turn-based." And if it's an action/RPG of some sort, how's that much different than any regular Zelda? The point was that going with a different character would be a better choice if they're going to change genres.

"I dunno...they cut Tetra's Trackers from the U.S. version of 4 Swords Adventures, remember?"
Yeah but wasn't the excuse that the game was so dependant on verbal commands from Tetra that it made for a hard translation? That's a pretty flimsy excuse but there was some reason given. Aside from BS Zelda I can't think of any other Zelda game to not make it here.
Title: RE: The Legend of Tingle: Remarkably Peculiar Game

(Very minor *SPOILERS* for Tetra's Trackers are contained below)
Tetra's Trackers, a fun game, was cut from all non-Japanese releases of the game.
Coming from someone who played it (and it is *quite* fun, I must say) - the game is very dependent on the commands that Tetra, Sue Bella and King of the Red Lions give you - in fact, had it not been for a rough translation guide for the game (over at GameFAQs.com) I would have been quite stumped as to what to do (since I speak/read absolutly *no* Japanese).
But... I don't see any reason as to why the game couldn't have been translated - it's not like the game was heavily dependent on the Japanese culture or some such. No, I think the reason that the game wasn't brought over to the US was because NoA didn't want to commit the resources to translating the game since... well... Let's put it this way, while I enjoyed it as a fun destraction, most of y'all probably wouldn't have. It's not Zelda in any way, shape or form and is very much a "party game" or such. It's a race/competition with Link as the main character - and that's pretty much it.

Hmm, if I recall they *did* localize Tetra's trackers but, like Tingle, it was so goofy and annoying that everyone who played it made fun of it.
I could be misremembering though, I can't find the source.

Post by: UncleBob on October 07, 2005, 01:32:24 PM
It was my understanding that large parts of it were localized - but the entire game was not. I believe at one year's E3, a demo was running where Tetra called players by Mr. or Ms. [insert letter here] (i.e.: "Ms. R" or "Mr. T"). However, it was also my understanding that the game was fairly poorly received at E3 - which would explain the why NoA didn't want to commit the resources on further work to translate the title....

I'll bet that Nintendo is just amking a game that's silly, ridiculous(sp?), and lol funny. Mario&Luigi was pretty funny, I HAVE FURY!!!!11 so I'll bet that it'll just be like watching a really funny cartoon.

I was in the shower thinking about this (yes, I'm a sick, sick man) and had to come and post my two ideas for the game...
First off, the game comes with a Credit Card e-Reader. When playing, everytime that you/Tingle discover a map, you have to swipe a credit card and Tingle charges you $398 to use the map. Oh, and you *need* the maps in order to finish the game.
Second, the commerical. Picture a busy New York-esque street corner with tons of people walking by. Music playing in the background is something along the lines of the Wind Mill Man in OoT. Standing still on the corner is a man in a Tingle outfit. He stands there, absolutly still for about 10-15 seconds.
...
Then the announcer says "Go ahead, you know you want to touch him." - Key some action shots from the game - "Battle alongside Tingle and friends in this awesome new adventure - journey through 12 different levels on a quest to resuce Knuckle from the evil clutches of the Anti-Faries - use the touch screen to activate unique items like the Tingle Balloon and the Tingle Fish in order to destroy countless hordes of evil minions. Only in Tingle's RPG - and only on the Nintendo DS." - Cut back to creepy Tingle Guy - "Come on, don't keep him waiting."

It's Hymn Of The Storm. I like the feeling of despair and futility.

Eh? I thought it was called "Song of Storms." Actually, I'm sure it is...it's my favourite song in OoT by far, maybe even in any game I've played.

KDR lives in Germany, perhaps that explains it
Anyway, the Song of Storms is really an awesome song, one of my favorite game songs of all-time. "I like the feeling of despair and futility. " That's the perfect description of the song, hearing it's just like, "Life....sucks...."

Tetra trackers wasnt that deep All you had to do is go to the proper flag man (timing for bonus) and collect powerup's I beat the first 10 or so stages then got bored, my mate beat it totally by collecting all the maps

While it isn't that deep, when Tetra is yelling at me because something is going on, It gets confusing. The guide explained all the special events along with every other minor thing that a normal Japanese person would understand.
Also, KotRL is creepy when he's yelling about.
