Title: Serenity
Post by: PaLaDiN on October 03, 2005, 08:24:48 PM
So, anybody else seen this movie?
I loved it. I'm no browncoat, but it's kinda sad to see the low ticket sales... Serenity deserves sequels. Loved the acting, the characters, the action, the ship; wouldn't mind seeing more of them.
Although... ouch.

I had to travel to a town 70 miles away, but I watched the movie.
And...rumor has it that the entire cast signed three picture contracts...so if Serenity is deemed a success (10million opening weekend, which isn't bad for movies of its ilk) then two more are bound to happen.
I am a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar.

It's based on the show Firefly right? I didn't much care for the show, is it pretty much the same concept.

Anything specific you didn't like about the show?
The movie wasn't as western.

Whats wrong with westerns?
Aside from Gene Autry.

It's getting a lot of accliam as "the next StarWars" sci-fi franchise. I loved the show but haven't seen the movie yet. This weekend for sure.

I thought the movie was awesome and I haven't watched the show at all...
I'm serious about the spoiler, so if you haven't seen the movie STOP READING NOW
How did the "entire cast" sign a 3 movie deal if they killed off one of the main (and from what I've read, most popular) crew characters, as well as one of the main secondary characters?
I would love another too, but the entire movie just felt like and ending to me... where do they go from here?

Book was actually also one of the main characters. He left the crew just before the movie.
Watch the series, you'll probably like it too.
Also, prequel? Flashback? Who knows, but I'm trusting Whedon since he delivered with this movie.

Thats what I'm saying! Alan Tudyk, the guy who played Wash, was the one who said it!
Whedon has something up his sleeve.
Or...they just had the entire cast sign them so people wouldn't get suspicious when two cast members didn't!

What's a browncoat?

It's what they call the obsessive cult that forms around Firefly. Because the main character wears a brown trenchcoat.

Joss Whedon is known for bringing back dead characters in Buffy and Angel, so the return of any characters wouldn't suprise me.
Rats, how do I do the spoiler text?

[spoiler)Darth Vader is Luke Skywalkers Father. Also, Yoda dies.[/spoiler)
Only replace the ) with ]
=== Well, also, the Browncoats (the obsessive cult) are responsible for the show being made into a movie, pretty much.
Also, the millions of DVD sales helped.

I have two questions.
1. How did the "entire cast" sign a 3 movie deal if they killed off one of the main (and from what I've read, most popular) crew characters, as well as one of the main secondary characters?
2. Do I have to be a socially inept tv watching dork to buy a ticket? I've heard it's a requirment.
Not everyone has seen the movie. Keep major spoilers hidden. Thanks. - Mod

This movie was based on a TV show? I didn't know that. I saw the movie and was amazed. I had no idea it was based on something else.

Yeah, its based on a show called "Firefly" which was cancelled after only 11 episodes.
It's available on DVD, and is well worth tracking down. Makes the movie that much better.

I just saw an ad on PGC for the Serenity DVD, which comes out on 12/20/05. I just wanted to say good god that was quick. Released in theaters on September 30 and out on DVD in less than three months. That's gotta be some sort of record.

I heard they are planning to release DVDs increasingly closer to their movie theatre release in order to try and decrease pirated DVD sales. I think it's a pretty good idea. I always prefer to wait to have the real deal and now it seems they are making my wait shorter.

I'm not complaining, I need my DVDs for the subtitles.

Well, I figure its cause Joss Whedon wants to make back what he spent making Serenity as quickly as possible, so he can get to work on the sequel.
That could be fanboyish wishful thinking on my part, though

I saw the movie before watching the series. I thought it was one of the best sci-fi movies in a long time. I really had fun watching it. I have since recorded every episode off of Sci-Fi channel that has been on. The movie has brought new meaning to a series I didn't give a second thought to the first time around.
I really hope for a sequel or something. I heard that one may be going direct to tv.

Ha ha, I'm going to make my girlfriend watch this with me. She'll stab her eyes and ears out while I watch with great excitement! A lot of movies have been coming out on DVD really quickly lately. I think they make so much money on DVDs that they figure there's no point in waiting, I've even heard rumours that some movies may start to see a simultaneous release.

Just the other day, I read that the studios actually make more money off of DVD releases than they do for theatrical...as it only costs a few dollars to make and print a DVD...and that theatrical releases are almost regarded as Advertisements for the DVD release!

This film f'n rocked. The characters were so well written and likable. ZOMG, IT PWNED.
I will say it was better than a certain other Sci-fi film that I will not name.
