Title: Just the beginning
Post by: Bloodworth on September 17, 2005, 10:08:42 AM
It looks like what we've seen so far isn't even a full revelation:

"The example that we have with the DS is that in January 2004 when we first announced it we said it had two screens because that's pretty easy to understand. We didn't say anything about the touch-screen until you could touch it and experience it at E3 and I think we're going to go the same route with Revolution."

http://www.gamesradar.com/news/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=37344&subsectionid=2504

E3 should be quite interesting.

So it shall!  Other quotes of significance...

"We plan on taking advantage of a number of new features in the Revolution, including the controller."~Retro Studios

"It is basically complete, but we reserve the right to move buttons and round corners. However, we have not shared everything that there is to know about Revolution or its controller."

"C'mon, we're Nintendo - we like to hold things until the very end!"
~Jim Merrick

Also note the "mysterious comment" Iwata made at E3 that's in my sig...

No it's approximatly 300 days but will feel like 1,000,000 billion years for fanboy.

a camera would be a logical next step for online games..

Aha, he's still calling it the Revolution without making a face, that name finally has super momentum now.

They should've at least shown a demo reel so we know they're not running around their dev studios doing barrel rolls and smacking each other with the controller all day

That was actually...a very good interview.

Thanks for the heads up Bloodworth.

Gah, spare me. Judging from the uses the headset with Live got, I don't want to have a camera in the system.

How reliable is Jim Merrick? Does he know what the secret stuff is or is he just guessing there's secret stuff?

I mean NOA is out of the loop sometimes, so I can't imagine what NOE is like.

I really doubt that Merrick would outright lie about the question...Meanwhile, Perrin Kaplan has also been interviewed...

For our final question, because I know you are incredibly busy, is that with the four different colored lights on the controller signifying the player who is using the device, does this mean that the system will support a maximum of four players?

ImageWhat we are telling people right now is that four players can play on the Revolution, but what this means exactly we will unveil at a later time. We’ll have more information soon to come on this topic.

Hmmmm...

Only four at a time, including online, maybe? Who knows. I have to say, if this is what they consider easy to understand, I can't wait to see what they consider really Revolutionary.

NOE is the number one source for leaks. They can't keep a hold on their tongue.

As far as using the camera for online play: Iwata did mention in his keynote the problem of vulgar abuse in online games. Though he obviously didn't specify how it would be dealt with. It's sort of a given that Nintendo would be particularly careful about it, but there's some reassurance for you.

Or she can be acting as if she doesn't know a thing, lol! But she does seem ignorant alot of the times, and sometimes it seems she wants to blurt it out but she controls her mouth enough not to spill the beans.

From an anonymous contributer to that article's talkbacK:

"I was thinking that there could be up to 10 players with just those 4 lights.

Example say you have 5 people...the 5th player would have the 4 and 1 light lit up"

Brilliant.

The Rev will teach people binary!

or maybe 4 people can play with 8 controllers... so player one's two controller both show teh LED as player 1. etc.
<that wont happen>

as to perrin kaplan's comments; she's talking about WiFi; Iwata said they'll talk about the specifics in October.  (that's my hypothesis... but im really surprised that they haven't revealed more about teh Wifi connection// its like 30 days until that goes live in Jpan, right?)

It's VR.  That's the secret...and why in the video, they use no example of games....only of people in open space living the game.

You know, I wanted to discredit the posters at teamxbox (where I go to argue) who said that the Rev controller was also a vibrator (and that I should stick it...somewhere). But now this has me thinkin'...

Yeah, Rez Revolution wouldn't need an accessory, just a two controller mode.

omen -- i haven't ruled that out yet. when the girls were looking for the fly, i can imagine that fly moving around in stereoscopic 3d... *drool*  ... though ninty prolly knows that it could alienate some gamers who can't experience 3D

I doubt it has anything to do with VR....maybe stereoscopic 3D, but VR....yeah right, keep dreaming.

I think they didn't show any gameplay footage because they didn't want to ruin the commercial by showing graphic hungry whores what the REV is capable of. It would of detracted way too much attention.

I'm not saying that's the only reason, but it definitely had something to do with it.

Post by: couchmonkey on September 19, 2005, 07:32:56 AM
I think Nintendo left games out partly for the same reason as Don'tHate (don't let the graphics distract from the concept) and maybe also partially to keep the real concepts behind the games secret.  It's also possible that if there's more to the "interface", that gameplay footage would give it away.

I kind of doubt VR just because they show a normal TV in the room during the remote controller trailer Nintendo made, but I suppose a 3D TV attachment like some people were discussing before E3 could still be possible.

That TV was also an HD set, correct?

Interpret that comment in any wasy that you see fit.

Well I hope it's safe to assume the Rev will output 704x480 16x9 progressive as the GameCube does. That won't be as impressive as the PS3 or Xtrememarketing360, but it should still look good on an average-sized HD set. Something a landlubber would own.

I feel that no gameplay footage was shown simply to keep the focus on the Rev's controller and it alone. I also feel that Nintendo have more of this strategy for us in the future. I bet we'll see even more add on news and pics WAY before E3 and my money says that is where we see "in-game" stuff for the first time. Because by then, we will litteraly be drooling in anticipation. Just the condition Nintendo likes us in before they start dropping bombs.
