I would have expected a picture involving smashing someone with the controller itself...

I cannot find the appropraite screens, but I would be imaging for a game like mario tennis. Hold A and swing to perform a topspin shot and hold B to perform a slice. A quick x/y combination and swing to perform a lob or drop shot.

Ahoy all ye Landlubbers! It now (in australia anyway) be the start o' post like a pirate day! Yarrrr...

Couldn't it deduce the type of your strike from how you execute it? I mean, real tennis racks don't have any buttons on them.

Looks like some good ideas...but how comfortable is this controller going to be held on it's side really?  How easy is it to push the "B" button and how hard is it going to be to accidently push the "B" button?  If anyone can find info on this from people that have held it please direct me toward it.

That's why the controller should be held normally (with the front pointing toward's the tv), and to turn you rotate and tilt. Instead from what your proposing which is siimply tilt.

I just realised using the controller like Mario suggests could be done with the standard shell controller.  I would much rather control a racing game with both hands because twisting your wrists repeatedly is asking for some sort of wrist pain and/or injury.  With two hands the movement is in your elboys to tild the drivers back or forward and to turn them left/right wouldn't be as drastic of a movement on the wrist.  If a racing game were to use a controller in this way to control the vehicle I would rather use the shell controller.

You can hold the remote with two hands.

Ok, well think of it this way.

A snowboarding game. The remote could essentially become the board (if pointed towards the tv). To cut left, you would have to rotate the back end of the remote to the right, and twist the controller downwards to the left. Therefore mimmicking the cut of the snowboard on the mountain. Jet-skis would manage the same way, with the cut being on a body of water instead. Also, to dive you'd tip the front end downward.

The remote "becoming the board" can be used in alot of racing games (except ones that evovle cars). It could be used on a motorcycle game, a snowboarding game, maybe Tony hawk, street luge, and even a hang-gliding game.

Maybe I should draw a picture.....

I can imagine a Tony Hawk game being ridiculously good...the controller is the skateboard.  It moves how you move the controller.  You flip the controller, the skateboard flips.  You turn the controller in a complete circle, you've done a 360 in the game.

Yarr, I be seeing your point. I must be adding though that, how would it detect the different strrrikes? It be too harrrd if ye don't 'ave much rroom, my way be much easier. Not too haaarrd, and it still uses the features of the "contrrollerrrrr".....My pirate speech sucks......

Wait, what, you expected me to post a picture of someone hitting someone else in real life with the rev controller? That would require me having a sense of humor.

Speaking of my lack of sense of humor, here's a crappy, unfunny mock-up I just made of how I think the 'traditional shell' could look: clickity clicky click here

Because ign's mockup doesn't integrate the remote into the shell enough/at all.

not to mention that the port on the controller wouldn't be connected to anything...

Okay, it still needs some tweaking.....
But I still think the concept could work.

My biggest concern is that I'm not sure if you'd be able to reach the start/select buttons easily.  EDIT Oh, and the c-buttons. Not sure how you'd fit them onto that.

Heres my idea for a gta control scheme
The pictures are pretty much self explanatory

Walking
-tilt up, tilt down , turn left, turn  right with tilt censor
-Straffing moving forward and back would be done with the analogue
-Switching guns would use the z1 and z2
-Shooting use b

Walking

Driving
-Up and down on analogue for gas and break, Side to side for ebreak
-left right with tilt for turning
-Driveby shooting hit direction on dpad + z1 shoot with d aim cursor with tilt censor, Control driving with analogue

Driving

Driveby shooting

i have gta3 on the pc  and it works pretty good on the mouse and keyboard method.

oh and it just occured  to me  tilting isa button in  itself..when  i think  of using the cotnroller i  think of it kinda like a  flashlight...but you dont normally tilt your flashlight....
