Title: THQ Support...
Post by: cubist on September 08, 2005, 06:07:13 PM
According to various internet sites, THQ's president is quoted saying that "Nintendo is waking up". Something along the lines that there's more Nintendo support for this system than any other system before it. If that's the case than Nintendo must really have something cooking behind the NDA lines. That's a good sign for a Nintendo loyalist like me. Lately these third party hints have me more optimistic than ever.

Definitely good news...It makes me wonder just where THQ is in production with Rev games, whether they are just in planning or in full development...

All right, here's the problem as I see it:
I can't even tell what's rumor and what's fact anymore.
Do you see what's happening? New rumors are popping up before the old ones can be verified. My buffer of tolerance has been overflowed.

This is real
Quotes from IGN
Quote Farrell did confirm that THQ is developing "games for Revolution."
Quote Backing that up, he also firmly stated, "We are commited to Nintendo's [Revolution]."
Quote However, when asked about what plans Nintendo has laid out for THQ, Brian was hush-hush on the matter. But he claims that based on his discussions with the hardware giant, he feels that "Nintendo is waking up."
WOO! HYPE HYPE!
Quote Finally, when confronted with the question of whether or not THQ was in possession of development hardware, Mr. Farrell declined to provide specifics due to non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). All he would say was that "We're seeing more from Nintendo now [for Revolution] than we have an any other Nintendo platform."
I think that quote is a hint that LOTS of devs actually know stuff about the Rev but can't say anything.

More good feedback but I also wonder if they are actually well into development for the Rev. My pessimistic side is telling me that they have just planned games for the Rev and aren't really working hard on them because they have just got the information from Nintendo. That should never have happened if it is true.

Ofcourse something is in the works, its just Nintendo has put a heaven seal on thq, and if they leak info, they will grow a gaint stupid hand out there back

"We're seeing more from Nintendo now [for Revolution] than we have an any other Nintendo platform."
I'm not sure what this means, but I'd like to think it means that right now they are in a better position to get games out for the Rev launch and beyond than they were this time before the cube launch. Which, if true, is amazingly fantastic news.

I believe it has more to do with Ninty's relations with 3rd parties...I mean, why would THQ care about the games Ninty releases?

Interesting...
Is this a play on the sleeping dragon metaphor? If so, then this is great news.
As for Farrell or whatever declining to answer if he had in his possesion a developement kit or not, automatically means he does. If not, he would of said "no." Which I'm sure doesn't violate an NDA...

Whoa! Good news indeed. Can anyone make a list of confirmed developers for the Rev? I would like to compare it to PS3 and the X360

Another positive quote from a third party? I feel like I'm back in 1993 again!
Now, if only I knew anything about the Rev., I would be extremely hyped.

THQ support is like Ubisoft support. Having it doesn't mean anything because they support everyone. The only really good news about it is that if THQ wasn't supporting the Rev then it would be in serious trouble. So it's more not-bad news than good news.
But "We're seeing more from Nintendo now [for Revolution] than we have an any other Nintendo platform." sounds pretty encouraging. Did THQ release games during the 16-bit era? I never heard of them until WCW vs. nWo: World Tour. Still better than the N64 and Cube is pretty good. Nintendo's on the right track at least.

To me, that equates to good news. It's all relative. This wouldn't be news for the PS3 at all, but considering it's Nintendo, it is good news indeed.

Totally Horrible Quality has been around for a while...I think they did the Ren & Stimpy games, which I ate up, on the Super NES.

Ian, the important news here isn't the fact that THQ is supporting the Rev...It's this:
"We're seeing more from Nintendo now [for Revolution] than we have an any other Nintendo platform."

Very guardedly optimistic about that comment.
I still wouldn't get any false sense of security from it. I know an EA LA artist, and they don't know anything about Revolution yet. It could be because that particular studio simply isn't going to focus on Rev development, or possibly Nintendo is picking favorites.
Being friendly with a select few isn't very helpful in the big picture. A few companies knowing a lot doesn't translate to a vast change in policy. So we'll see what unfolds in the next week.

"Guardedly optimistic"...good way to put how we all feel about this story. With the N64, we were feeling arrogant because we thought Nintendo was untouchable. With the GCN, we were hoping for the return of Nintendo to the top of the heap. Now with Revolution, there's a more humble optimism hoping for Nintendo to at least have a competent gaming machine for the next generation. Quotes from Peter Molyneux (spelling?) and Sonic creator Yuji Naka are also generating much more promise for the Rev.
Back to THQ...their GCN WWE games will be important to sell hardware to people who are both hardcore fans of WWE and Nintendo.

You guys can't forget about the quote from the SquareEnix guy. If you did, then it's in my signature.
The quote just makes me happy...especially when skies are grey.

This is some pretty aggressive secret-keeping.
But even Rare was committed to making Cube games at this point in the Cube's prenatal stage.

Eh? Rare didn't really have much of a choice of leaving the Cube since they were sold to Microsoft...

Looking at Matt from IGN's blogs...we see that he attended a THQ event that featured a demonstration of the controller and a game, which he states he can't write about...
I'm thinking that based on the title "THQ ROCKS"...he was trying to give away hints...maybe a music based game...OR maybe he saw The Rock on a WWE game for REV. He has pictures of himself and another guy holding the controller saying that it feels really comfortable.
Personally, DOR2 got way more playing time on my GCN since it came out because my nephews enjoyed it so much. I'm hoping for a DOR3.

I think it was the Spongebob game - Tommy Tallarico talked about it too..
And yeah, Day of Reckoning blows the Smackdown series out of the water. I can't figure out why people like SD better; the only thing in those games that is superior to DoR is the presentation.

If it was Spongebob, I wouldn't write about it either.
