Title: Please help me choose
Post by: Darkheart on August 30, 2005, 09:41:47 AM
For months I've been contemplating over getting Jam with the Band for the Ds and frankly I was about to go buy it yesterday via lik sang, but chose not to because another game caught my eye. NDS Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan looks so funny and instead of midi songs it seems like they are real mp3 quality songs.
These are my pros for both games:
Jam with the band
-Multitude of songs including some awesome Nintendo classics -Real instrumentation (I play several musical instruments in real life) -The difficulty is pretty hard from what I hear -The ability to add whatever songs I could ever want via music editor
-Worried that there wont be that many songs since the songs are mp3 like Im not sure how big of a card they used....
If you guys could please help me out throw in your opinions, because if you do, I'll choose one and give impressions of the games, after I recieve them.
Ps I plan on getting both just not at the same time, so this is just to see which one to buy first.
Thanks a ton
Darkheart

Well, I've only got Jam with the Band, but it's awesome. Yes, the songs are of poor quality (I refuse to say MIDI, since it's not correct ), but it's not notciable after a while, since you're likely to get completely absorbed by the song anyway. It's magical It has over 30 songs, and most of them have 8 different instruments for each song, so really there are hundreds of things to play. There's also an expansion coming out in Japan (is it out already?) that almost doubles the song list, so if you have the means and the money, there's that too. Plus, Jam with the Band has 8-player single-cart multiplayer, which rawks.

you could get Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan now and then wait to see if Jam with the Band will ever make it state-side. Since it seems like jam with the band has a much better chance of getting localized you could eventually have both!

actually, Jam with the Band has a VERY low chance of making it stateside or anywhere else. A bunch of those songs are liscenced and they would have to go through a lot of trouble to remake them for different songs. It IS likely that we could get a whole new game that's very similar because of Nintendo's stance to "expand the definition of gaming." Playing Jam with the Band is often compared to playing a real instrument. Hopefully there would be more touchscreen stuff and graphical enhancements, because it was originally a GBA game.
Ouendan is a really great rhythm game with a whole new way of playing rhythm games. Gamespot said this about it: "we do hear from a good authority that several third parties are looking it over to see if it's viable to bring to the States." go to their site to see the import review. Before that quote they say there is very little chance, but I'm hoping the second part will come true. It's really a wacky game that stands out from a lot of other games.

LOL, i just got Jam with the Band in the mail today! I was sold when i heard that the expansion pack will include "Starry Heavens" by Day After Tommorow. For those who don't know the song was used in the opening cut scene in the Japanese version of Tales of Symphonia.
I would have gotten Jam with the Band but i never had enough money to spare, and then Naruto DS came out, and after Nintendogs and Advanced Wars came out i somehow still had enough money just barely so i ordered it a week or so before Nintendogs and Advanced Wars came out.
From what i've seen Quendan and Jam with the band play alot differently, Quendan is more stylus use while jam with the band is more button based. Yeah and Jam with the band does seem like you are playing an instrument.
