Title: Good work moderators!
Post by: RABicle on July 23, 2005, 08:16:36 PM
Quote From the PGC Forum Rules You may add a custom avatar (also called a "author icon") to your profile. It should be no more than 100x100 pixels in physical size, and no more than 20KB in data size. It should not contain any offensive graphics or needless animation, and you agree to remove or change your avatar if requested by a moderator. Planet GameCube Forums reserves the right to remove the avatar feature at any time if it is deemed to be causing problems with page loading times, or causing unnecessary strain on server resources. Use of images in your avatar falls under the same rules as linking to any image in the Forums ... they must be hosted on your own personal webspace, and should not be linked to any other site's bandwidth without their knowledge. Violation of this rule will result in your being banned from the Forums.
That's funny, because I wasn't contacted at all over my avatar. I'm guessing it was removed due to the usage of the word ƒag. An explanatioin would've been nice.
Regardless, you only reserve the right, according to your own rules, to remove my avatar if it causes unnessesary server strain or page load problems. Since it clocked in at under 2kbs I doubt this was the reasons. It should be the moderator responsible who carries the "I don't think the rules apply to me" avatar.

Mods are people, not magical fairies. They aren't bound word-for-word to the rules they lay down, and you can't use tricks and cleverness to win candy away from them.
(BTW, I do think that we need to have a widescreen month, and that letterboxed is not sufficent.)
(And sig pics. We need sig pics.)

I'm fairly sure complaining about moderator actions is against the rules.

Sig pics would be ok as long as they had a strict height rule... 100px max... maybe even 75-80... Something really small.

Yeah widescreen month would be great. But still my last avatar was inside this constricting 100x100 limit.

stevey: They say "ignorance is bliss" so I'll leave you guessing.
RAB: What do you expect? If the word is banned in posts do you think the mods will permit it in avatars for some inane reason? 100px limit or not, apply common sense before using an avatar. Or use tubgirl/goatseman, that'll solve the issue once and for all.

Are you trying to make a point or something? In that case I suggest you learn English so you can communicate that point (or just stop pretending, it's no longer funny).

Clearly widescreen is 16:9 so you avatar may be wider but it is not widescreen.....

You bolded the wrong part.

But it will only result in his being banned, not him .

The part you bolded applies to hosting your own avatars, not to having needless animation of offensive graphics. Which is anther funny thing, my avatar didn't contain any offensive graphics, just text.
Regardless of wethor or not my avatar broke rules, my point is that whatever moderator removed my avatar and replaced it didn't follow his own rules. Weak.

It only says "this rule", "rule" could refer to the entire paragraph about avatars.
And before you go all lawyer on the mods, remember: Your presence here is merely tolerated, not guranteed. Most mods on other forums would have seen this thread as a request for a ban. You had how many avatars removed by the mods, exactly?

RABicle, when did your brain die? Of course I removed your avatar. It's fairly obvious that your avatar wouldn't fly.
Quote You may add a custom avatar (also called a "author icon") to your profile. It should be no more than 100x100 pixels in physical size, and no more than 20KB in data size. It should not contain any offensive graphics or needless animation, and you agree to remove or change your avatar if requested by a moderator.
Indeed we do not actually request people to change their avatars, but that line does not bind us to do so as you can see in the sections below.
Quote You agree that you will not use our forums to post any material, or links to any material, which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. No, it doesn't matter whether you knew it was derogatory or not. Sometimes an innocently used term can be very offensive to others.
Quote We have the ability to edit and/or remove any objectionable messages without warning. Objectionable is defined solely by the administrators and moderators, not by any user.
Quote Contrary to popular myth, you do not have any right to free speech in a private forum such as this.
This all applies to avatars as well, and there's no reason you should think it doesn't.
Quote my avatar didn't contain any offensive graphics, just text.
That argument's entirely wrong. Your avatar contains no text, it is a graphic in its entirety, even if that graphic represents text.

One last point
Quote You agree that you will not use our forums to post any material, or links to any material, which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. No, it doesn't matter whether you knew it was derogatory or not. Sometimes an innocently used term can be very offensive to others.
Since we do not host images, to post an avatar, you must input a link. You really don't have a loophole here.
