Title: Prey, the video that could have made MS' E3 show
Post by: nemo_83 on May 27, 2005, 10:14:16 PM

As with most of these 360 games the graphics are so so. Nothing surprises me, but this game, like Gears of War is one of the better looking 360 games. What shines to me though is how much footage is shown and some of the ideas are really cool. But there may be too many ideas, it seems like the definition of a complicated game. It kind of reminds me of some recent fps like Metroid, Halo, Riddick, and Doom 3. The AI seems kind of slow unfortunately and the character models are kind of low on polygons. The lighting is okay, but I am expecting more out of next generation graphics.

That's been longer in development than Duke Nukem Forever.
BTW, they have announced that Prey will only be available through some online download service.

I know, there are a lot of faceless fps coming to that thing, and really only good fps sell worth a crap anymore. I don't know what they are thinking. All the games look the same.

Its the same with the PC, suddenly all fps are based on a military setting with the same damn gameplay structure. I dont consider much fps as a genre but a medium, and as a medium it has a lot to offer, something Metroid Prime shows very well. Where are the Hexens, the Thiefs? what the hell happened?

Excellent way to put it. A medium rather than a genre.

Wasn't Prey first announced as the next big project that Apogee was working on right after Duke Nukem 3D???
I feel really old...
Now why can't EA make a proper sequel to System Shock??? Ok, I know Bioshock is in development...

Oh boy... Another generic FPS with graphics that could be run on the current-gen X-Box... Yay...

Galford: And guess what Apogee is now known as? Exactly, 3DRealms!
Now why can't EA make a proper sequel to System Shock???
Because... Um... You need 1. Warren Spector and 2. good ideas, plus it would hurt the marketability of run-of-the-mill WW2 FPS sequels?
