Title: Revolution controller Mock up
Post by: HereticPB on May 23, 2005, 02:04:46 PM
My mock-up of what the Revolution controller will look like minus the fancy feature of whatever Nintendo is coming up with. Notice the select button as been added again due to backwards compatibility.

Oh god, my eyes, they are bleeding!

First of all: A) Looks boring B) Couldn't you have spiced up the colors more on the buttons? C) Can't there be like one topic for these mock ups, instead of everyone and their uncle making their own...

Adding a select button and making all the right buttons the same size.

Revolutionary

"Looks boring"

Yeah because THAT'S what's important.  The control should look interesting before all else.  In that case you must love Sony's boomerang controller since it seems to be focusing on style over substance.

A controller is a tool.  It should be functional.  This is functional so I think it's a great design.  I would just have six face buttons instead though to be more compatible with N64 games and I would add a second Z button and make the C-stick the same stick as the primarily analog.  The idea is great though since it strives to be useful and functional.  I would gladly buy a Rev if it had this controller.  I will not buy a Rev if it has any of the insane one handed controllers that some people have come up with.

Bahahaha that's the funniest thing i have seen or heard in three days!

The funniest thing before that was what my friend told me. He works at the cinema and was working at the time of the of the first session of star wars. He was telling me that instead of missing some of the movie, and going to the toilet, some fat nerd guy pissed his pants.......in a freaking movie theatre..........bahahahaha

I have already voiced my hatred of the PS3 controller. I personally find the GCN and N64 controllers to be great, and also look great, for seperate reasons. With this controller, I have to ask why even bother making a redesign of the GCN controller? Especially in a manner that makes it look worse without a real gain save a select button and that the SNES button placement would work better for fighters. I personally find the GCN controller very comfortable, and the oversize A button fits well with most games.

Doesn't the REV has controller ports for GC controls. So why make a new control that can be used for GC games when you can just use your old control??

the 25th bi-weekly contoller mock-up thread

Perm: where in the .... did you find that oddity of a controller?  That things look to be so confusing that I would not see how its possible to be functional with most games.  I know its a rough photoshop, but wow.

I remember somone had a thread labeled "What would it take to NOT sell you a Revolution", well I think I finally came up with an answer.

No offense, I'm just giving you a hard time, but that is an odd looking controller

BlackNMild2k1, if you are refering to the base controller used for the perms picture that would be a Virtual Boy controller.

I actually remember the VB controller being comfortable so it would not be a bad idea in my opinion if Nintendo were to use that style again.

"Doesn't the REV has controller ports for GC controls. So why make a new control that can be used for GC games when you can just use your old control??"

Because if the Rev controller can't play Cube games it can't play normal games.  The ability to play all styles of games is important.  If Nintendo goes with something too weird there are whole genres that will be completely unplayable.  If the controller is that restrictive it's a worthless hunk of sh!t and that makes it pretty likely that the console is worthless hunk of sh!t too.

Perm's modded VB controller looks pretty good except I don't see why there needs to be two d-pads on it.  I would make the yellow d-pad more like the N64 C-buttons.

Well I think its ugly, and as Ian said why two d-pads?  I would set the left side up more like an N64 controller.
On a sidenote why would they want to remind us of the virtual boy(not that 95% of the gaming community would know on their own)?

Everybody is taking the Rev pictures to be final truth when those aren't even official final designs.

If you read the first sentence you would see this I think would be the basis of the Rev controller minus the fancy feature.

what i want is a playstation 2 controller with gamecube handles gamecube triggers, n64 shoulders, and the d pad and joystick switched.

actually to be all honest..i like having a c-stick..but i miss having six buttons..its kind of a crappy tradeoff..
you cant really have on and the other...

at the same time they should just add clicks to the joysticks and replace the z-button with a nicer shoulder button. Actually..heres and idea..add a c button that turns abxy into c buttons

The C-Stick is way better than the C-buttons! >=O

WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND

its not better for everythin..i think using the c stick as c buttons is annoying as hell..but its great for a camera

Reggie said that the controller is special in that it can play games from every system very well.

I love the PERMS design for that.  Obviously, it is just a mock up to show how the buttons should look, and be laid out.

I personally am hoping for a much better designed Z-button and that C-modifier (I like that name.)

The only problem is that there is nothing Revolutionary about these controllers designs.  So what could be the twist.

Using Gyroscopes with just one controller doesn't seem like it could add much to create new experiences.

So if there a way to get this controller design to break apart into two controllers, and feel natural?  If so we have a winner.

Hey look, another mock-up

Sort of a side question. But....why did the US get those ugly SNES grey and purple buttons in the first place?

The green, yellow, red, blue on the PAL version looked so much better.

Back OT: 6 face buttons was fantastic, I'd have 6 face buttons rather than analog sticks that click. They feel clumsy to me (eg Halo's crouch).

And please make the second analog stick the same size as the primary stick. I rather dislike the nub.
