Title: Sonic Rush video.... O_O
Post by: NotSoStu on May 22, 2005, 10:42:51 AM
Link EDIT: Seems the link is dead now, sorry...

You know what, Sonic Team? I forgive you. I forgive you for the poor camera angles. I forgive you for the poor level designs. I forgive you for everything. This.... This looks almost orgasmic. And the 3D boss thing looks awesome.

Wow, that just moved WAY up on my "Kill someone to get it if you have to" list.  The 2D part looked awesome (that is, assuming they don't let you win by hold right the whole time ), and the 3D boss was way better than I expected.

I give it:

Oh my GOD! And here I was ready to declare Sonic Team past their prime, not really worth talking about, and then this comes. Simply jaw dropping, if it plays half as good as it looks, man... I'm pumped for this one.

It's official. Sonic Team can only work in a 2-D environment *L*

It's a 2D Sonic. How can it not play good?

Don't bother buying it now, I just jinxed the game.

This looks quite cool.  I like how they're making use of having two screens to extent the size of the environment instead of focusing so much on the touchscreen.  When I first saw the Sonic demo back when the DS was first revealed I was really uninterested.  But this looks like the Sonic game we've wanted for a while.

Only Nintendo can take a sidescrolling 2D game and turn it into a great 3D game.  Castlevania, Sonic, Mega Man, Contra, etc should all stay 2D because it's clear the companies that own those franchises don't have the skill to change dimensions.

Thank you very much for that link...that video blew me away, first time I saw a Sonic Rush clip.
It looked very seamless bouncing from screen to the next, very fast and smooth and just looked RIGHT. The transitions were also excellent.
The game is now a blip on my game radar, and I hope Sonic Team will be able to deliver on the promise exhibited in that clip.

In regards to Ian Sane's comment: there are a good number of folks who loved Rockman Dash, you know. I also remember Castlevania for the PS2 getting decent reviews but personally I doubt I would like them more than the PS/GBA-style Castlevanias.

Well, some impressions are out... I've been dying for information on this game - one of my most anticipated ones on the DS even with all the good games released so far. And it sounds like it turned out great - wow, I can't wait

EDIT: Should have said I dug this thread up..

Yah...I've been saying it for years. Sonic Team needs to drop the 3D BS and focus on what they do best.

2D Sonic.

I'm still holding out hope for an epic, 50 level+ 2D Sonic game on a home console myself.

IGN REVIEW'S UP - 9.0 with some sparkling comments - here's a sample:
Quote

The fastest, most energetic, and coolest 2D Sonic game created. The "unfair" elements of past Sonic games have been remedied with new and welcome gameplay elements. And it's incredibly challenging.

Wow, I can't believe it...sounds simply brilliant. I would give up every single DS Christmas title barring Mario Kart to get this, and that's saying a lot. Hell, I would probably give up Castlevania too - I'm that excited. Good job Sonic Team!

Anyone else wants it?

I'm definately getting it.  I should have just enough money after Mario Kart and Tony Hawk American Sk8land to get this and put gas in my car.

It comes out the 22nd right?  Because there are conflicting dates on different sites.  The sega site had the 15th last time I checked, but IGN and a lot of other places are saying the 22nd, so I don't know.

I like how I don't have enough money to get all these awesome games...Mario Kart and M&L2 are priority one, the others come later... ;_;

Oh man, M&L2 is this month too? I forgot.... My to get DS queue is stacked...

H -> Mario Kart DS
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Sonic Rush
Meteos
Metroid Prime Pinball
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Kirby: Canvas Curse

Accursed lack of time...
(Ok, so maybe I've put over 90 hrs into Advance Wars DS, but that doesn't count... one makes time for that game )

I'm thinking about getting this, but I'm afraid the game might be satanic.......look at the address of the IGN review: http://ds.ign.com/articles/666/666139p1.html

Well, it's clear, SEGA realized that they had to start sacrificing souls to Satan again to make good games like they did back then.

Good job - as I've said quite a few times, I love this game! It reminds me of the 2D Sonic days, before his 3D mishaps.. The action is smooth, the graphics are great (thumbs up to the 3D bosses) and it just has a wonderful all-around "feel". I can't put it down, and I highly recommend it to anyone out there. I'd go as far as to say that it's my second favourite DS game, ahead of Castlevania, Advance Wars, Kirby and Meteos.

It's a real shame that, like Tony Hawk, it won't do as well as it could have since it was released so close to Mario Kart. I wish they had held off a bit and released it in Febraury or March. Then at least it wouldn't get caught up in the DS holiday frenzy, and it would get the interest it deserves.
