Title: "Conker: Live and Uncut" loses the "Uncut" part...

"Conker: Live & Reloaded"

IGN Xbox
Quote

Originally Microsoft had called the remade game, Conker: Live & Uncut, but wisely changed the name because this is not in any way an uncensored version of Bad Fur Day. In fact, the N64 version actually had some un-bleeped swearing. Sure, the F-bomb was always censored, but every now and then a s--- would get through, which made things even funnier. Here, Microsoft has upped the bleeps as almost nothing makes it through safely, not ever "twat," which I didn't even know was considered a curse word by even the most modest of people.

LOL!

Oh and, there's other stuff in the IGN preview.

Conker's like... the most graphically-impressive Xbox game IGN has ever seen... and like... Rare spent all of their time on the graphics and the Xbox Live online multiplayer. Stuff like that.

All this time on "Grabbed by the Ghoulies" and a Conker remake...they must only have 2 or 3 people left at that companey or something. In all honesty I think Nintendo dropping these guys was not a bad move. The goldeneye team works for Free Radical anyway, Rare lost it a while ago.

Rare started to bleed out after giving birth to Perfect Dark. Conker was the last although short good game they made.

I guess Microsoft likes necrophilica or something because a corpse of a company is all they got.

Heh, teh matUre system is censoring!

Am I the only one who doesn't like the direction Rare took Conker?  I miss the squirrel from Diddy Kong Racing.

Bill: You realize that "twat" is another word for female genitalia (at least in Britain, where Rare is located) and therefore the censorship is applicable?

No.  I feel the same way.  What happened to my favorite Banjo-making company?

It means the same thing here in America.

Oh, I very much know what the words I say mean...But it's also used in a less harsh manner, similarly to other familiar words that have been "modified" to homosexual meanings ("a bundle of sticks" and "happy")

It's still rude in America. To use the only example I can think of, they weren't allowed to use it in the Broadway version of Chicago (despite it having b*tch, b*stard and a bunch of other stuff) but could in the movie.

cigarettes too.  because smoking was seen as a woman's hobby, so when men took it up as well, some considered them to be womanly, so there is one way where f***** became a "modified" meaning for homosexual.

Etymology of ***. Brief summary: it's derived from the 'bundle of sticks' meaning, which was initially slang for old women. This was then applied to men who displayed rather flamboyant feminine qualities.

Love the example they use.

This censorship is silly.  It wouldn't particularly bother me anyway, but I dislike how the game has gotten significantly more realistic in the violence category and then they go and censor out a few measly swears.  Watch out, wouldn't want to hear the s-word in there anywhere!  Might give the youngsters bad ideas!

As for the way Conker's Bad Fur Day turned out, I was freaked out by the idea when I first heard it way back when, but in the end I really liked it.  I thought the final product was superior because it didn't just turn out to be yet another cute platformer for all ages...which the N64 already had in spades.  It was something more unique.

Edit: Got rid of the I LOVE HALO 2s.

I always thought the bundle of sticks was litteralk...you take a bunch of guys and put them together and they are jsut a bundle of sticks.......gtuys have sticks you know....

and cigarettes...they are stick shaped

i suppse in the middle ages old hags would carry sticks to their houses....h's turn to f's sometimes in language....

So, all in all MS censors even bad language and SCEE don't want to taint their family friendly image or something and don't release God of War? But Nintendo is for kids?

That is kind of funny. Of course, what was even more funny a couple of years ago, amongst MS insinuating that they were for "mature" players, they come out with a "Family Hits" version of their Platinum Hits line.

On a related note, is it possible that Rare has gone a little bit TOO overboard with the hair tech at their disposal? I mean, Conker just looks freakin' ugly to me now.

Ha! Oh well. I'm sure it'll still be a good game. I just hope they make a game starring Bumper and Timber. Best videogame characters ever.

I had heard that the term f*g and f*ggot was used to denote homosexuals originally was because it was "Something to be burned."

i.e.  You burn the bundle of sticks in a fireplace, you burn cigarettes, and the like.

==

As for Conker...oh sweet irony.  This is almost as bad as the Lego Star Wars game for the PS2, just on the other side of the spectrum.

You guys are getting dangerously close to not only getting off topic, but getting into forbidden discussion territory.  Please disperse.

Yeah this is old news but I'm still confused.  I'd figure that by now there would be more lenience for language in videogames; especially since GTA:SA where nothing was censored (that game really surprised me).  It would have been fine if they'd kept f*ck bleeped out for humor's sake but this is just ridiculous. =(

I am outraged at the thought of censorship destroying the great mighty poo song.

One of Rare's greatest assets is their British sensibility, and I'd hate for them to have that neutered.

Makes me wonder in the "uncensored" version, if they would allow the big f-word. (I can see some parents getting a little upset if they do)

If I was an unsuspecting parent that bought Conker for my kids, I'd probably find something wrong with it way before they managed to finish the game and uncensor any swearing.
