Title: Dear Mysterious Benefactor...
Post by: UncleBob on April 11, 2005, 03:08:20 PM
Hello...
Some of you know me as "UncleBob". Many of you know me as the "JookySeaCaptain".
And someone knows where I live.
Today, I had the weirdest thing happen. I left my apartment to go get my wife and I some sodas. I live on the third floor of an apartment building - when I left, my wife just stayed in the living room which is right on the other side of our door.
Upon returning home (with soda in tow!), there's a box right outside the door. It's a box for a giant champange glass (turned upside down) retaped with masking tape. Written on it is (in large, bold letters with a black marker) "HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOOKYSEACAPTAIN". (Note: My birthday isn't for three weeks...) After a little debate, my wife grabbed the box and opened it. Inside was the GameBoy Advance e-Reader bundle.
Stranger yet, after calling Nintendo and having them trace the serial number, it turns out that the set was bought at a Wal-Mart on the 4th. They couldn't tell me for certian which store it was bought at but was able to give me a few numbers, one of which (using my previous expierence working at Wal-Mart) I identified as a possible store number. This store is located in Mississippi... about seven hours from me. Now I don't know for certian that it was purchased at this store because I can't be certian the number they gave me was actually a store number...
My wife denies any involvement - and I believe her. She says that she didn't hear anyone in the hallway while I was gone (and I wasn't gone more than 10 mins). It's possible that I could have not seen the small box on my way out the door to get sodas. And eariler in the day, while me and my wife were... errr... napping, I thought I heard a knock on the door - but when I went to go check, there was no one there (although I did just look through the peephole) and when I checked out the window, I didn't see anyone getting into a car/a car leaving. And while many people I know IRL know my "UncleBob" nom de plume, very few people know me (IRL) as the "JookySeaCaptain".
So it's all very interesting/creepy. Eh?

Id remove the "interesting" part of the last sentence ^_^... anyway lucky you! I wish I could have a GBA.

1) Yeah, you got a GBA, but this belongs in General Chat. Member modding liek whut?
2) You have your phone number in your sig, and your city in your profile. You say that you put your phone number all about the interweb. It's not surprising that stuff gets sent to you. What is surprising is that the GBA didn't start spewing out dioxin or something.

Yeah, wasn't sure where to post this - but since it was GBA related and I don't post on the general board (i.e.: no one who only goes there would know me), I choose to post it here.
And yeah, I'd be easy to find (address and all), but who would leave me a $30 GBA/e-Reader set?
(edit) Oh, and the reverse phone search doesn't really explain how they knew my Birthday was coming up...

Quote Some of you know me as "UncleBob". Many of you know me as the "JookySeaCaptain".
Actually, I believe everyone on this board knows you as UncleBob. Most of us probably don't have the faintest idea who JookySeaCaptain is.

There are a few rare sites that will yeild birthday information, more that yeild age. Was told about them once in a "hey check this link out" situation by friends.
I have never retained links for either.

That's very unsettling.
Your wife opening packages addressed to you I mean. I hate it when people do that.
You can assume it wasn't me for I'm not nearly nice enough to give someone a GBA.
Seriously though when you put your phone number in your sig and have the city you live in in your profile this sort of thing shouldn't be that unexpected. Personally I'd be happy that the gift was friendly.
